This cosy boutique hotel transports its guests to a long lost era, as if it was frozen in time around the middle of last century. A time when the guests were elegant and bon viveurs and enjoying life and small pleasures. Magnificent atmosphere, with very good, positive vibes. An absolute perfect location, close both to the Historic Centre and to the modern part of Merida, right at the beginning of Paseo Montejo. I adored every minute at Casa San Angel, along with other 3 couples, our friends. We will always check-in there!
The water fountain in the centre of the lobby, surrounded by soaring courtyard walls boasting murals by a local artist were a wonderful welcome. Rooms are very spacious and clean with old world charm both in fixtures and furnishings. Super cozy bed and a beautiful old armoire. Bathroom is lovely, in particularly late in the afternoon when the sun streams in. Location is excellent - smack dab in the centre of both old town and new. Though I walked everywhere, Ubers are only $3.00 max. Breakfast in the hotel is popular amongst tourists and locals. Cute little patio out front where I sat under the palms and enjoyed morning coffee. (No balconies in rooms). Staff are super - Sarah at front desk is a hoot, Octavio and Elo in the restaurant made my mornings shine just a little brighter:). The only issue is the lack of WIFI - it was at 40 % at best the entire stay. If the WIFI is improved, I would return.
We highly recommend this charming boutique hotel. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Most speak English which is a blessing as our Spanish is a work-in-progress. The location is perfect for walking to just about everyplace most tourists like to go in this fabulous city. For trips that are too long by foot, taxis and Uber are always there within 5 minutes or less. Our room was lovely and quiet with a comfortable bed and daily cleaning service and perfect for our 12-day stay. The bathroom water pressure was strong and the AC was quiet and efficient which was wonderful after walking in daily temps over 100F! The on-site dining room has an interesting and tasty menu and seems to be a hub for local business and family gatherings as well as hotel guests. The only issue is the hotel’s free WiFi can be unreliable.
Casa San Angel has become my favorite hotel in the world. Absolutely beautiful lobby open to the sky surrounded by a balcony where most of the guest rooms are. The restaurant in the lobby is charming and serves continuously all day. Our room was large, wonderfully decorated as was the large bathroom. Our three day visit was a perfect experience. Special thanks to Sara and Roberto in reception for their excellent service.
I arrived, and there was no sign that this was the hotel we waited 15 minutes at the door until somebody open, the hotel decoration was very nice, but the bed was so small, and even the blankets were tiny, we slept very bad, The advertising said a fabulous breakfast the bread from the oven to the table; they gave us a cup of coffee, 2 1 slice ob Bimbo bread toasted some butter an marmalade, we have to complain a lot. The staff was amicable and professional, but between the bed and the breakfast I was very disappointed mainly because the rates were high, I 'll never come back
We stayed here this week on a 3 night trip to Merida. We were delighted with the hotel from the moment we arrived, the reception area is beautiful, a courtyard in Hacienda style. Our rooms were beautiful, with en suite bathrooms. Everything was spotlessly clean and the staff were really helpful and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. The location of the hotel is very good, central between the Paseo de Montejo and the historic centre so everything is in an easy walking distance. There is a lovely cafe/restaurant on the ground floor which is open 7.30am -8pm, breakfasts are brilliant. Overall this hotel offers excellent value for money. We had 2 large and beautiful rooms for our family and the total bill was approx £350 for 3 nights. From my stay, I would suggest they could easily charge more for the quality and location. Highly recommend it.
I especially enjoyed the spacious and quiet room. The many plants and colourful wall paintings are a question of taste. The food at the restaurant was ok and the pool is too small really. But we found this hotel to be the perfect retreat while exploring the city.
Lovely stay here added an extra night. This hotel caters to your every whim books in lounge ..water available ...nice places to sit outside your room a small pool loads of beautifully attended plants all around the courtyard .. fun hammocks in the room was a gem find it’s also situated at the top of the montego. The owner is in attendance in the background and ensures the details of good customer care is carried out in a very professional and caring way. I highly recommend this hotel The hotel is named as a nod to the san angel inn in Mexico City . My only comment re my booking is that it indicates breakfast however it is only a small continental breakfast however the menu is pretty reasonable if you want something a bit heartier. The shop on the side sells lovely artisan goods which are reasonable in prices and have some really interesting art work from local artisans.
We loved our week at this hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms are very nice, with quiet AC and ceiling fans, and a good sized bathroom. They provide bottled water in the room every day, and there is a large water dispenser outside the room, so you can fill up as much as you need, when you want it. We used the hammock in the room and in the common area quite a lot, which was lovely. The pool is quite small, but was more than enough to take a cooling dip in the afternoon. The courtyard is beautiful and relaxing, and the cafe fed us well. Do note that the continental breakfast that comes with the room consists of coffee, choice of fruit plate or fruit juice, and toast with jam. You can order more for breakfast and just pay for whatever the extra cost was. They also have lunch and a nice selection of sweets. The location was perfect, as it is right at the end of the Paseo de Montejo, and is a short walk into the more boisterous center by the zocalo. We will definitely stay here again if we are back in Mérida and highly recommend it.
My husband and I stayed 4 nights at Hotel Casa San Angel and found it to be a great location for exploring Mérida. Lots to see nearby in the City Center and on the Paseo de Montejo. Everything in the hotel is clean and beautiful and the staff is friendly and helpful. The rooms have fans and air-conditioning. There is seating in the common areas for reading, planning your day or taking in the attractive surroundings. The hotel offers free WiFi. A tasty continental breakfast with a particularly good fresh fruit plate, is included in your room rate, or you can choose reasonably priced breakfast dishes from a large menu. There are many good restaurants, bars and cafes within walking distance. We especially liked Oliva Kitchen and Manjar Blanco, both within a block or two of the Hotel. We highly recommend this excellent accommodation!
