The Salt House - Poolside amongst the Moonah Trees

SUNDAY FOR FREE TC's: Book pay for Friday and Saturday night stay and ask us to add in the Sunday for free! Valid stays 1 May30 Nov 2026. Subject to availability. Excludes public holiday weekends school holidays. Not valid with any other offers or promotions.
Walk through the door and your shoulders drop. Set well back from the road in Rye on the Mornington Peninsula, The Salt House wraps itself around the pool, so the water is never far from view and the moonah trees lean in from every side. It's a grown-up kind of quiet, with room for up to ten, and the dog.
THE HOUSE
The days here barely have edges: coffee at the long table, a swim before anyone's properly awake, a book in the shade on the deck, and back inside for lunch, all on one level without a single step. There's a second lounge for whoever wants a quieter corner, a desk for the one who promised to check emails, and a hidden cubby for any little ones.
OUTSIDE
The back of the house is where the holiday happens. The pool is big, solar heated and framed by native bush, and the covered deck looks after long lunches. When the evenings cool, there's a wood fire, a gas fire and a firepit for the nights nobody wants to go in, with firewood waiting in the cooler months.
THE NEIGHBOURHOOD
The national park begins metres from the gate, and dogs aren't permitted in it, even on a lead. Sixteenth Beach, wild ocean coast for walks and rock pools rather than swimming, is about 15 minutes on foot, but Browns Road has no footpath, so a short drive is easier. The Sixteenth Beach General Store and Peninsula Pantry are a short drive for coffee and lunch, Rye's calm bay beach is a short drive, and the Peninsula Hot Springs is close by.
FOR THE DOG
Dogs are welcome. There's an electronic gate and high fencing at the front, with wire fencing about 4 feet high along the side, so keep an eye on keen jumpers. There are leash-free beaches and parks nearby for a proper run.
SUMMER HERE, WINTER HERE
In summer, the house turns inside out, with everyone drifting between the pool and the deck and the BBQ going as the light fades through the moonahs. In winter, the fires are lit, the house closes in around you, and the hot springs are close by.
GOOD TO KNOW
Electronic gate, a carport for 2 cars and extra driveway parking. A Ring camera at the front door only activates when someone is at the door. Not available for parties or events. Short Stay Certificate No. STRA0324/20.
The vacation home is air-conditioned and features a kitchen, 2.5 bathrooms, and a balcony, and there's space to spread out with 4 bedrooms. Guests can expect to find a TV with a DVD player. Other standard amenities include a washing machine, a fireplace, and a coffee maker.

Almost all the things you’d hope for

The place is great, better IRL, the pool although not heated much is a great commodity to have when the Melbourne sun decides to poke its head out. Plenty of platters, cutlery, glassware for a large group, pleasantly surprised by that. The biggest disappointment was some of the cleanliness on arrival. Crumbs all over the dining table seats, glassware needing a clean before use, no bin liner in one of the bins and only two bin liners provided for the whole weekend that were not large enough to fit the internal bins. This may be small but had an impact over the weekend, needing to run to shops and get extras. Bedrooms all comfortable, heating great. Most definitely could do with another bathroom.

Good property but unprofessional management with very limited facilities.

Thank you for welcome drink and treat for pet. Before we even enter to the property, there was so many instructions to follow. Accidentally my little one make a mark on carpet. Agent ask to pay the carpet cleaning charge. Because that damage happen from me so I agreed. Agent have charged me $245 for one little mark on ONE ROOM carpet. This is very high charge for carpet cleaning. Agent didn’t send me a cleaner’s invoice. The invoice I can see is from real state not from cleaning company. As per my understanding real state don’t do carpet cleaning they hire cleaning company to do the job and company give invoice after the job done. I feel I get cheated, here and charged unfairly.and never back again this house not recommended to anyone.
