The Lyall Hotel and Spa5.0 out of 5.0

I've been recently staying at the Lyall Hotel. It is a convenient and generously-sized room hotel; great for work, including small kitchenettes. it's currently experiencing development adjacent to this site, but is okay for business hours. Check it out for yourself.
Rowena and Peter have created an absolute gem. Greeting guests personally is such a wonderful and rare touch. The rooms are magnificent and the service matches. Breakfast is delightful. WiFi was having an off day this stay but this is rare and was fixed quickly. Try to keep off the jelly beans.
In the 21st century internet is a necessity for business. Unfortunately this hotel isn't able to offer you any (although advertised) so had to buy an internet dongle. Shower wasn't cleaned and restocked and loud construction started right next to my room before 7am. If you're 60+ or come in with expectations of someone who is 60+ this is the place for you. I won't be coming back.
great hotel in the perfect location. Rooms were nice, clean, calm, and large. We had a suite, which was well worth the additional cost. There's loads to do around the hotel at walking distance, shops, restaurants, cafes, walks etc. Really liked it. Staff is v. good. The bfast though is not wow ... but there are coffee places around that serve fabulous breakfasts, so just walk 1 block away and get the perfect start.
Have just returned from yet another wonderful visit to the Lyall. It really is a fantastic hotel and we love our visits there. The suites are beautifully appointed and the staff are fantastic, friendly, efficient and superbly trained. We wouldn't consider staying anywhere else when we visit Melbourne and have already booked our next stay.
If you're coming to Melbourne for business or pleasure do yourself a favour and stay at the Lyall. A beautiful hotel, fabulous rooms and the most friendly obliging staff you will ever find. Nothing is too difficult for them and they cannot help enough. Our third visit and would not consider staying anywhere else.
We’ve just had the most wonderful two nights at Lyall! From the moment you walk in to be warmly welcomed by Alexandro, David to enjoying the cool chic of our accommodation. A very special mention to the truly quirky and wonderful Jamie, who made a stay that much more fun! Highly recommend this place to anyone who values the highest levels of service and accommodation!
This is a beautiful boutique hotel in a quiet area in South Yarra. My daughter and I had a spa detox afternoon and it was sensational - relaxing and tranquil spa. We will be back. Our room was lovely with thoughtful mini bar essentials like Ben and Jerry's ice cream and lovely champagne. Thank you.
We stayed here for 3 nights on a recent trip to Melbourne to celebrate a special birthday. The champagne bar was definitely an attraction! Great central location close to shops and restaurants. Arriving around lunch time, our room was not quite ready but David the concierge quickly offered us a cosy seat by the fire and we enjoyed a half bottle of champagne whilst our room was being finished off. Our suite was quite spacious with kitchen facilities if you wanted to prepare your own food, and a small lounge. Comfortable bed in separate bedroom and lovely big bathroom with separate shower and bath - always appreciate the line over the bath. Whilst we did not try the spa, quality spa products were provided in our bathroom. Breakfast which was included for us, had an extensive choice and was served in the bar (outdoors available when weather warmer). We also had drinks one night in the bar and a delicious chicken and leek pie as a light meal. 24 hr room service is also available. We dined at Cucinetta, a small restaurant across the street one evening which was delightful. Service is friendly and professional with David being the stand out on our visit – we loved his humour. The only thing that prevented a five star rating on this hotel was the construction works next door which started at 6.30 a.m. right next to our room. Not conducive to a sleep in if you have been out late the previous evening! We were aware of this before our visit though and did receive value for money on a Luxury Escapes package. Would definitely stay again but not until building works have been completed.
We love The Lyall, it's a lovely little hotel in a great location, and the two bedroom apartments are perfect for our family of 4 when we all go to Melbourne together. We've been staying here for around 10 years. This trip, it was just me and our youngest daughter, so we were happy enough with one room with a King bed. We had been warned by the hotel when we booked that there may be some noise from the construction site next door, and there was a small amount of noise, but not until after 7am, and not enough to bother us. The staff are uniformly excellent, warm and friendly. The rooms are a decent size, very clean, and the beds are comfortable. The bathroom was also a decent size. Where The Lyall is starting to fall down is in its very tired and dated decor. It's all brown, for one thing, so it's a bit sombre. The bathroom was very beige, and there was quite a large chip out of the vanity bench. We had plenty of towels, but they were all starting to get a bit threadbare. The wi-fi in our room was woeful, and that's really not acceptable these days. Breakfast is good, but a bit slow. We will probably always stay at The Lyall, because of its location and because it's simply a nice place, and we still thoroughly recommend it, but it is crying out for a refurbishment.
