From the minute we arrived and greeted by David at reception we were made to feel so welcome at this great hotel. The decor is warm and subtle with galleries of art on every level, with the entire premises spotlessly clean. The day spa was great followed by wine and dinner in the bar. The staffs knowledge of local restaurants and places to go is testimony to the genuine service that you will receive. Even asking for a coffee in the library at 6.00am wasn't any trouble. Congratulations to all involved for delivering us a great weekend...we will be back. Cheers, Brad.
During our three-day stay the staff went out of their way to meet our requests for information, recommendations and even some copying. Breakfasts were substantial and delicious. Our room was spacious and well-appointed. The only negative was ongoing construction next door
Such a convenient location with great service. My husband took me here for our anniversary. Alessandro checked us in and Agustino looked after our brand new car. They were super friendly and made sure we had everything we cared for. We started our stay with some spa treatments. Very relaxing! Before grabbing some of the Lyall bikes and heading out. The bikes were out in an instant and we were off. We had a great day and night - they offered us an upgrade which made it even more special. We even got one of their DVDs to watch. Thanks so much Lyall for a memorable stay. You come highly recommended from us.
Apart from one night last November we havn't stayed here for about 14 yrs or so. Hasnlt changed much! Except for the front desk staff. Last time we stayed they were helpful, friendly and provided excellent service. This time, they could not recommend any local restuarants to us, did not bring us some bottled water to drink after 6 hrs travel on request, there were no non-caffeinated tea bags in room, the beds were lumpy ( but they did try to rectify this), the construction noise on Saturday wasn't great, and the rates were $680 a night for the three of us. I juts felt they have lowered the bar considerably..There was no turn down service on first night, no welcome drinks or other extras that you would imagine they could do to earn the 5 star rating. Great location but they are definitely not the hotel that we once loved. Won't try again....
I've been recently staying at the Lyall Hotel. It is a convenient and generously-sized room hotel; great for work, including small kitchenettes. it's currently experiencing development adjacent to this site, but is okay for business hours. Check it out for yourself.
Rowena and Peter have created an absolute gem. Greeting guests personally is such a wonderful and rare touch. The rooms are magnificent and the service matches. Breakfast is delightful. WiFi was having an off day this stay but this is rare and was fixed quickly. Try to keep off the jelly beans.
In the 21st century internet is a necessity for business. Unfortunately this hotel isn't able to offer you any (although advertised) so had to buy an internet dongle. Shower wasn't cleaned and restocked and loud construction started right next to my room before 7am. If you're 60+ or come in with expectations of someone who is 60+ this is the place for you. I won't be coming back.
great hotel in the perfect location. Rooms were nice, clean, calm, and large. We had a suite, which was well worth the additional cost. There's loads to do around the hotel at walking distance, shops, restaurants, cafes, walks etc. Really liked it. Staff is v. good. The bfast though is not wow ... but there are coffee places around that serve fabulous breakfasts, so just walk 1 block away and get the perfect start.
Have just returned from yet another wonderful visit to the Lyall. It really is a fantastic hotel and we love our visits there. The suites are beautifully appointed and the staff are fantastic, friendly, efficient and superbly trained. We wouldn't consider staying anywhere else when we visit Melbourne and have already booked our next stay.
If you're coming to Melbourne for business or pleasure do yourself a favour and stay at the Lyall. A beautiful hotel, fabulous rooms and the most friendly obliging staff you will ever find. Nothing is too difficult for them and they cannot help enough. Our third visit and would not consider staying anywhere else.
