The Lyall Hotel and Spa5.0 out of 5.0

After battling Melbourne's epic traffic, I was delighted to check into a Grand Suite at the Lyall. I loved the amount of space as well as the extra half bath and large garden tub (the washer/dryer was also a nice bonus). The staff were very accommodating and the only thing holding me back from a higher score is the construction noise next door. It's such a shame they have to start so early in the morning. Other than this, the Lyall is well located for plenty to see and do in the city.
I read a few negative reviews so felt compelled to add my own review. I recently returned from a 2 night girl's weekend at the Lyall. We had a wonderful stay. The staff were friendly and welcoming, the lobby areas were calming and comfortably furnished. 4 of us stayed in a 2 bedroom suite which was clean, comfortable and well appointed. The beds were super comfy and the suite was amazingly quiet. No noise from outside whatsoever. We made the most of the hotel facilities, enjoyed a glass of bubbles at the bar, had breakfast in the restaurant each morning, and used the gym. We also booked treatments in the day spa which were fabulous. My only very minor complaints would be the tap in the ensuite didn't turn off properly, the gym could do with a clean and breakfast service on the second morning was a bit confused. Nothing to warrant a poor review. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would be happy to return again.
Unfortunately are return visit to The Lyall was a disappointment. Currently they are rebuilding more accomodation for the hotel right next to it and while they do advertise their being some disruption from building noise it actually is quite significant from 7am every day but Sunday. I did request a room on the other side of hotel which we weren't given then when we checked in the washing machine was out of order so asked for another room. This room had no underfloor heating in the bathroom as advertised. Whilst the rooms present ok they are not 5 star standard more like 4. The king bed was of questionable quality along with blanket, towels etc. All a little worn and in need of a refresh to make it 5 stars. Whilst the staff are friendly it appears disorganisation reigns, to the point where breakfast on Saturday morning was like an episode from faulty towers! For the cost my advise would be to stay elsewhere.
Although billed as a ‘5* boutique hotel’ I can only assume that the rating is by the owner and not any official organization. A small hotel in the South Yarra section of Melbourne it is just off Toorak Road with convenient public transport to town. The room we stayed in consisted of a very small bedroom and a larger room with sofa and kitchenette area. Our first room had to be switched because of a non functioning safe deposit box. Each of the rooms had a washing machine; it didn’t work in either of the rooms we had although there is one in the basement of the hotel. The rooms had seen better times, the furniture was worn, chipped; carpet in front of the small closet frayed; carpet stained; hanging ‘shelves’ in closet covered with dust - certainly in no way 5*. The breakfast area consisted of four or five small tables in the bar area and, if not included, was fairly expensive. There are a lot of nicer coffee shops nearby. Like others we overlooked a construction site with the noise starting at 7:30 in the morning. Staff were pleasant but I got the impression that they were understaffed. Overall I would not stay here again if in the Melbourne area.
Major security failure and major customer service failure. Don't stay here. Woke in the middle of the night to find an unknown man using my hotel bathroom toilet - due to a faulty room lock. This awful security failure was made much worse by the dismissive attitude of the hotel. In the morning I was only able to say four words before the manager moved away to answer a phone call. The owner's first response was to blame the sleepwalking guest and say the lock failure was one of those things. Worst hotel experience I can remember.
Stayed here for three nights and was pleasantly surprised. A delightful boutique hotel set in a tree line street just around the corner from South Yarra designer shops. Short walk to South Yarra train station with regular links to greater Melbourne. Well presented generous sized rooms. Quiet and peaceful surroundings. Will definitely be back
My partner and I were looking for a quiet get-away but with a touch of luxury. This provided everything we wanted. The staff were lovely and accommodating. The Champagne bar was divine. And the spa experience was intoxicating - I recommend the Time for Two package! The hotel is in a great location for shopping, restaurants, cinemas, transport.....we walked to the Botanical Gardens and grabbed a coffee and croissant at a French patisserie on the way. Could not have been better! A few comments on the downside: - the bath in the suite was quite small...we had a one bedroom suite - the room keys kept locking us out which meant we had to head to reception a few times to get them reset - the spa massage was in seperate rooms....for a couples package, I was expecting to be together for the entire experience Aside from these few things, we had a fabulous weekend in Melbourne and would definitely recommend The Lyall.
Just spent 2 nights at the Lyall. Great location for the Vic Gallery and surrounded by chic cafes and restaurants. Great shopping on Toorak Rd and Chappel Street. Our suite was comfortable and clean with more space than a normal hotel and the convenience of a kitchenette. The bed wasn't the most comfortable but staff responded well when I asked them to turn the mattress. Delicious a la carte breakfast each morning. Staff were very friendly and helpful. I would stay here again.
Stayed at The Lyall over the weekend and it was a dream! Such kind and helpful staff, amazing rooms and that SPA! I had the Signature Spa treatment, massage and facial and I was blown away! My new Melbourne home, thank you, thank you, thank you!
What a gorgeous little gem, tucked away in Sth Yarra. My daughter and I spent a fabulous night at the Lyall and were very kindly upgraded to a two bed roomed suite. The location is fabulous, on the doorstep of everything. The hotel itself is lovely. The a la carte breakfast , included in our rate was delicious & very generous. the suite was fabulous & could easily accomodate 4 adults comfortably. We loved our stay & hope to return again.
