This is a beautiful boutique hotel in a quiet area in South Yarra. My daughter and I had a spa detox afternoon and it was sensational - relaxing and tranquil spa. We will be back. Our room was lovely with thoughtful mini bar essentials like Ben and Jerry's ice cream and lovely champagne. Thank you.
We stayed here for 3 nights on a recent trip to Melbourne to celebrate a special birthday. The champagne bar was definitely an attraction! Great central location close to shops and restaurants. Arriving around lunch time, our room was not quite ready but David the concierge quickly offered us a cosy seat by the fire and we enjoyed a half bottle of champagne whilst our room was being finished off. Our suite was quite spacious with kitchen facilities if you wanted to prepare your own food, and a small lounge. Comfortable bed in separate bedroom and lovely big bathroom with separate shower and bath - always appreciate the line over the bath. Whilst we did not try the spa, quality spa products were provided in our bathroom. Breakfast which was included for us, had an extensive choice and was served in the bar (outdoors available when weather warmer). We also had drinks one night in the bar and a delicious chicken and leek pie as a light meal. 24 hr room service is also available. We dined at Cucinetta, a small restaurant across the street one evening which was delightful. Service is friendly and professional with David being the stand out on our visit – we loved his humour. The only thing that prevented a five star rating on this hotel was the construction works next door which started at 6.30 a.m. right next to our room. Not conducive to a sleep in if you have been out late the previous evening! We were aware of this before our visit though and did receive value for money on a Luxury Escapes package. Would definitely stay again but not until building works have been completed.
We love The Lyall, it's a lovely little hotel in a great location, and the two bedroom apartments are perfect for our family of 4 when we all go to Melbourne together. We've been staying here for around 10 years. This trip, it was just me and our youngest daughter, so we were happy enough with one room with a King bed. We had been warned by the hotel when we booked that there may be some noise from the construction site next door, and there was a small amount of noise, but not until after 7am, and not enough to bother us. The staff are uniformly excellent, warm and friendly. The rooms are a decent size, very clean, and the beds are comfortable. The bathroom was also a decent size. Where The Lyall is starting to fall down is in its very tired and dated decor. It's all brown, for one thing, so it's a bit sombre. The bathroom was very beige, and there was quite a large chip out of the vanity bench. We had plenty of towels, but they were all starting to get a bit threadbare. The wi-fi in our room was woeful, and that's really not acceptable these days. Breakfast is good, but a bit slow. We will probably always stay at The Lyall, because of its location and because it's simply a nice place, and we still thoroughly recommend it, but it is crying out for a refurbishment.
This hotel continues to provide a high service level. The location and the hotel are very good, with service being a major highlight. Peter and his team can handle most requirements without much fuss, on this trip, David was particularly helpful. The rooms are large and have all the key facilities. The fitness centre, whilst small has some very good equipment. A new French restaurant in Toorak Rd, called TU is worthwhile visiting.
We have stayed here several times and always had a relaxing experience. The hotel is so peaceful you could believe that you are the only guest. The rooms are large and well appointed with every thing you might need. The staff are all very professional and they went out of their way to make sure we had an enjoyable stay. The hotel is in a quiet street but close to shops and restaurants in South Yarra and, should you want go into the CBD, trains and trams are within easy walking distance. We love staying here so much that we booked our next stay immediately after getting home from this one.
This lovely little property in Melbourne's chi chi South Yarra is warm, intimate and inviting... and the staff take customer service seriously. If you prefer your hotel accommodation to feel intimate, cosy and low-key but still luxurious, rather than shouty and grand, then this could well be the place for you.
Great location, great service ...but one of the staff came into our room uninvited whilst my partner was naked in the bathroom and saw it all. Very awkward moment and caused discomfort for reminder of stay.
I feel this hotel calls itself boutique due to its size and not the facilities it provides. Yes, it was aesthetically pleasing from the outside and service upon check in was friendly. We were given room 101 which we affectionately named the dungeon! It was clean but had no view, we looked at the apartments next door. The underfloor heating was intermittent and when we asked them to split one of the king rooms into two singles they did so in the smallest room which meant there was little to no room for two adults to move around in. In room entertainment was terrible, we wanted to watch a dvd and after what felt like a scene from faulty towers, we eventually got there (2 dvd players later, one which still had a vcr component). Due to the 1 hr debacle the staff were kind enough to offer complimentary breakfast, we were thankful for that. Hopefully the hotel look at providing movies on demand like many other high end boutique hotels! We did visit the day spa and it was nice but rooms are noisy and I couldn't relax with the ppl talking in the next room. Would we stay here again, I don't think so, not with the many other choices available at the same price.
The hotel is ok. Style of a boutique hotel . Rooms have gods space .staying is ok if you need to spend few days as they have also a small kitchen. Is not close to the center so if you are a tourist better a place close to the city center .
Perfect girls 3 day weekend. This place is cozy, beautiful, and welcoming. I could live in the 2 bedroom suites. The staff are so friendly. The breakfast was great. We didn't try any spa treatments with our luxury escape package but maybe next time.
