Alto Hotel on Bourke

Another great night in Melbourne at the Alto on Bourke St. I stayed in a one bedroom apartment which was both clean and comfortable. I particularly liked the double glazed windows for quiet at night, and the fact that the windows could be opened for fresh air during the day. I also liked having a bed made up with a top sheet AND a quilt. A number of hotels seem to be skimping on the top sheet recently, which means either sleeping under the quilt (too hot) or with no covers (too cold). Kudos to the Alto on Bourke for providing both. Unfortunately the hotel is no longer serving dinner at night (still doing breakfasts) but the young lady at the reception desk was extremely helpful with suggestions for good dining options in walking distance.

Never stayed here previously but found it ideal. Very close to Southern Cross Station and tram stops. Greeted by a delightful young lady who handled booking in very professionally. Room very clean with all necessary amenities for an overnight stay. Small intimate lounge on ground floor for coffee and watching the cricket. Booking out also handled well. Would definitely stay again.

On discovering that our original apartment was a hovel (not at the Alto) we had to find somewhere at short notice and the Alto came to the rescue, and what a great rescue. Warmly welcomed on booking in, the receptionist encouraged us to get back to the lounge quickly before the complimentary manager’s drink concluded. After checking out our excellent room, we trotted down to participate in a large glass of wine and a board game: novel! The room was as good as any in this price range being modern, clean and comfortable. But the attitude of staff and the hotel location raise this above ordinary. It will be first on our list when we return to Melbourne

Enjoyed a four night stay in Nov 2017. Perfect in every way: extremely friendly, helpful staff; delicious breakfast; convenient location; comfortable room. Highly recommended. Will definitely stay again if ever in Melbourne.

This is one of my favourite hotels in Melbourne. On a price vs satisfaction basis it punches above it's weight. Service is always great with friendly staff. Rooms are clean and comfortable. It's close to Southern Cross station, making it convenient if you use the SkyBus from the airport. There is also a tram near the front of the hotel to take you to Bourke St mall quickly.

We spent one night in a studio room last weekend at this hotel. The room was fine and had everything I needed for a comfortable stay. Don't expect luxurious touches or character as it is more in the style of a motel room. The really good things about staying here is firstly the hotel's location to transport and everything that Melbourne CBD has to offer and also the friendly and warm service by all the staff we encountered. A good choice for an overnight or 2 night stay in the heart of the city.

I booked directly with the hotel over the phone and found the phone service to be outstanding. The staff worked well with me to meet my family's accommodation requirements. Check-in was seamless and the room was quite clean. A good range of foxhole channels and the daily servicing/cleaning of the room was to an excellent standard. Location was outstanding. Bedding was potentially the most comfortable hotel bed I have ever slept in. I didn't make use of the breakfast facilities, they looked fine but I chose to live on morning coffees so I cannot comment on breakfast. Amenities such as Woolworths Metro for purchasing items quite close as was the tram stop. Bottom line - I absolutely recommend this hotel if you are looking for a place to stay in Melbourne. I will certainly be returning to this hotel in the future.

I had a short but very enjoyable stay. I could walk to my meeting. The staff were extremely helpful. The bed was comfortable. The room and the hotel was clean. The Alto is so different to the big "chain" establishments which I find impersonal. First class experience - thanks.

My husband and I stayed here for a weekend. The hotel is conveniently located for easily getting around downtown Melbourne. You are walking distance from tons of great restaurants. The room was comfortable. No view / barely any sunlight but other than that pleasant with modern decor and a comfy bed. Good wifi. Small kitchenette w sink, kettle, etc. 24 front desk staff is happy to help. Small lounge w free coffee (!) and fruit. A nice place to sit, relax, read if you want to get out of your room. We did not have breakfast, but it was available and seemed reasonably priced. Overall a very pleasant place to stay.

The Alto is located slap bang in the middle of everything and has a (free central area) tram stop right outside the door. It's easy to find and easy to get in and out of Melbourne from the location. The rooms are a good size (for a city hotel) and we chose a 2 bedroom loft suite which was spacious and well-equipped. it was all clean and well looked after. The front lounge area was very nice, with some type of manager's reception most evenings just to add a homely touch. The factor which prevents the Alto from being just another anonymous city hotel is without a doubt the staff. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left we received fantastic service and personalized attention. The front of house manager was just great, whether it was help us with parking, luggage, concierge services or hosting us in the evening reception. Everyone we met seemed dedicated to ensuring we had the best stay possible, but his level of customer service was absolutely the best we have received in many years of traveling, and it made our Melbourne stay very memorable.
