This was only our second visit to Melbourne, we needed a short stop over on our way home to New Zealand from Europe after an 18-hour flight, to catch up on some sleep. Chose this hotel as it is very close to the Airport Express bus station and only a very short distance to walk. When we saw the tram tracks on Burke Street we thought it would be noisy, but we needn't have worried as it was very quiet. We arrived just before midnight, it was so nice to have a proper coffee in the breakfast room before going to our room. Didn't wake till 10:30 am next morning, the bed was so comfortable, but we missed our breakfast! Had an evening meal here on our second night, which was very nice. The room was very clean and cosy, the staff very friendly. Would like to stay here again, sometime in the future.
The Vibe is an excellent hotel in a very convenient location, in Bourke Street, a very short distance from Spencer Street and Southern Cross Station. The standard room is "tight" but very well thought out so all space is well utilised with furniture and fittings of high quality. The Vibe has a small car park at an excellent additional cost for 24 hrs parking in the CBD - but book early.
This time 3 of us stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment and found our apartment to be clean, well appointed and with daily maid service (cleaning etc) - the 2 bedrooms were up a small internal stair case and the master had its own small balcony but no views to speak of (only several high rise buildings on Spencer Street) and the second bedroom had 2 single beds and no window but this was ok with me as I only slept in there - there is a very small bathroom (toilet, shower and wash basin) between the 2 bedrooms - downstairs one of the 3 of us slept on the very comfortable sofa bed and she had her own bathroom/toilet - we were pleased with the high quality of the free wifi internet and large number of Foxtel channels we could view - we would have preferred a slightly larger wall mounted TV in the lounge room and the second TV upstairs in the master bedroom was quite sufficient for that room - the beds were very comfortable so we were very pleased as we slept well. Other things we really like about staying at the Alto are the following - the tram stop almost out the front on Bourke Street (free trams around the city area), how close it is (a few minutes walk) to Southern Cross train station and the Skybus airport shuttle terminal, the close by Woolworths, BWS, Coles and Liquorland and the Spencer DFO outlet centre, free delicious coffee (using fresh coffee beans) from the coffee machine on the ground floor of the Alto and their lovely little touch of having a couple of bowls of good quality apples on the ground floor that are free for guests to take. We continue to find the level of service from Alto staff to be at a very high level and friendly too.
Very quaint hotel in an absolutely perfect location. You're about 100 metres from where the Skybus drops you off from the airport and a there's a tram stop outside the door. You also get friendly staff, a good bed, an ok shower and all this at a good price. You can't really do too much better in Melbourne. Well worth a go.
We spent 4 nights in a Studio Queen room on the first floor and we were very happy with our stay. The staff, from Jackie on arrival at midnight to Gary, Melissa and Sylvia among others, were all extremely helpful and friendly and could not do enough for us. They printed out tickets to the footie for us, took care of our broken suitcase and made recommendations for nearby restaurants. Our room was a reasonable size for two, clean, felt "new", comfortable bed, small bathroom but good sized shower. Our room overlooked a quiet alleyway down the side of the building and we didn't hear much noise including on Friday and Saturday nights. There was no view to speak of but then we were not in the room for long, we didn't even make much use of the 130 Foxtel channels. The breakfast room is small but we never had a problem getting a table. The buffet had a good selection and the cooked breakfast choices were good too (and better still, included!). We liked all the Green aspects to our stay including the recycling bins, reusing towels and linen, the rooftop honey. The location is excellent, a hop, skip and a jump from the Skybus and Southern Cross station and the free tram zone and of course only about 5 minutes walk to Etihad stadium. The building itself has a bit of history, read the notes in the Compendium in your room and take a look for yourself at the terrazzo floor in reception. There are newspapers in the breakfast room that you can take to read as well as a small library if you want a book to read. You can also make yourself tea and coffee there at any time. We would happily stay here again on our next trip to Melbourne and would recommend it to anybody else.
Small, modern and perhaps intimate boutique hotel in a great location. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Brekky menu had lots of options. Up graded to the spa apartment ( let's hope that happens again when I'm back 😜) Like the 'green' focus and the little extras ( eg. Umbrella in the wardrobe, Foxtel if that's your thing and good internet ) Easy to find and get to. Will stay again.
The Location was great, Just a short walk to the Train Station and it across the road from the Royal Melbourne Hotel and the free tram service The Room was cozy and Clean with a comfortable Bed.The staff was so Helpful and friendly who gave good advise on where to go for a bite to eat.
The booking process was very friendly and efficient and this continued right through our stay. The reception staff were always happy to help with all our requests. The room was modern, clean, comfortable and well presented. We had 3 individuals and were easily able to be accommodated in the two bedrooms and a sofa bed in the generous living area. A car park was available and easily accessible. Situated at the end of Bourke Street it was extremely close to the train station, if needed, a quick snack and Ethiad stadium. Out the front is a tram stop which takes you straight up Bourke street to the mall and is in the free tram zone. It is also close enough that we could walk to Bourke Street mall and then the MCG. The only issue was the rather small shower, but, this was minor. The service, apartment and location all added up to help us enjoy our weekend.
The location was perfect, just a couple of minutes walk from the Southern Cross train station and Skybus terminus, and across the road from the free city tram service which we took to get to the Bourke Street shopping centre. The room was great too, comfy bed, well presented, couch to relax on too. Lots of good eating options within 5 mins walk of the hotel.
Alto is cozy and convenient, with very comfortable beds and a great breakfast. But what adds to the experience is the friendly staff, who went out of their way to be helpful and provide useful advice. We stayed for two nights but would have been comfortable for longer - didn't get a chance to even try out what looked like handy but simple cooking faciities. We would definitely stay there again - already trying to find an excuse for another trip to Melbourne.
