We had a wonderful time at the Gillen House! The home is beautiful and charming, decorated with the hostess’ artwork. The bed was so comfortable and the room/bathroom was beautiful. Edward and Cynzia are so welcoming and hospitable- we felt right at home. The breakfast was delicious and everything was so thoughtfully planned out. Even though it rained our entire visit, we still loved sitting on the back porch, reading and listening to the rain. Beautiful home and wonderful people- you won’t be disappointed!

I just returned from an amazing weekend at The Gillen House in Maxey’s GA and I highly recommend it! My husband and I went with three other couples and planned to attend The Wildwood Music Festival, a 10 minute drive. The Festival was fun but we were caught off guard by how much we enjoyed relaxing at The Gillen House. We decided not to go to the festival on the second day and enjoyed the property instead. A perfect place to unwind. Beautifully restored and decorated by the artist Cynzia Sanchez and her partner Edward Toledano, the Gillen House is lovingly decorated and so comfortable. Edward and Cynzia are the perfect hosts! Very interesting and engaging and happy to have a cocktail on the porch with you or give you all the space you need. Can’t wait to return!!!!

From the patio out back I watched the big sky clouds drift over the barn and the lawn and a pond with a turtle doing yoga in the afternoon sun. It was the kind of peaceful country setting that can’t be copied or arranged just anywhere. It’s no surprise that Edward and Cynthia are it’s curators. Each an artist in their own, now sharing an amazing palette that I was happy to enjoy and am anxious to return to again.

I was looking online for lodging for the Notre Dame-UGA weekend. I wanted something on the east side of Athens so that we could avoid the heavy traffic between Atlanta and Athens. I found The GillenHouse in Maxeys. I didn't want to take a chance that it would be booked, so I called them. It was 9:45 p.m. on a Saturday evening, and Edward, one of the owners answered! (Personal Service) To say that we had a great time, would be an understatement. The house is perfectly renovated and beautifully decorated. Our room was spacious and had large (new) windows, Beautyrest King sized mattress, beautiful new fixtures and tile in the bathroom. The house was completely booked, but we felt as if we were the only visitors. It was very quiet. The home is filled with beautiful art created by Cynzia and Edward. There is a putting green and a driving range in the back yard. Plenty of lounging space on the deep porches, the upstairs screened porch, the back deck or beneath the hollies and or the magnolias. Cynzia made the most wonderful salsa from the tomatoes grown in their garden for us our first night. We enjoyed walking on the new Firefly trail that is across the street. We didn't have time to play on their bocce ball court, but hope to next visit. We both slept better than we had in months. We hated to leave.

My husband and I visited this lovely home soon after it opened. We were awed by the restoration work that had been done so tastefully within and without the house. The bedrooms were large and beautifully decorated, and the bathrooms were all brand new and sophisticated. It’s obvious that Cynzia and Edward enjoy what they do and pass that enjoyment onto their guests. We recommend it highly.

Having already experienced Bulldog weekend in Athens many times we wanted to find a more tranquil inn where we could escape the noise while still having an easy drive to Sanford Stadium. The Gillen House in Maxeys was amazing. The entire place was recently renovated yet the decor and furniture seemed like it could have been there 100 years ago. The guest rooms and beds were luxurious and tastefully decorated and each room has its own large bathroom with modern fixtures. The owners are artists and their lovely works are found throughout the house, most of it for sale. You can also wander through their studio, the garden, ample grounds, pecan trees, bocce court, putting green and your choice of very comfortable porches. The Georgia country breakfasts were spectacular, made with fresh veggies and herbs directly from the garden. The owners are very responsive to whatever needs you might have — if they are available you can arrange additional meals and even transportation to the big game. Already looking forward to our next visit. Go Dawgs.

My daughter and I visited overnight in this amazing renovation. The attention to detail, comfort and beauty is 5 Star! The ambiance of the grounds, the living quarters, the presentation of meals is a treasure to be sure. The artwork displayed throughout the house makes youn feel you are not only spending time in the lap of luxury, but you have had the good luck to surround yourself in a tiny corner of heaven. Cynzia and Edward are the kind of hosts who take you into not only their home, but into their hearts. We look fo forward to our next visit. ...Having told friends about this, my only suggestion would be to offer a room with two double beds for those who would like to travel together, but sleep separately.

Edward and Cynzia obviously envisioned a dream for the Gillen House and they have fully made that vision a reality in opening this B&B. Truly top-notch is all aspects. Farm-to-table doesn't get any closer than Edward's garden and kitchen. Cynzia's artwork adorns much space in the wonderful, enormous rooms and hallways, the newest painted in her in-house studio. We are now the proud owners of one her pieces. We've already booked a return visit for late-September.

We stayed at the Gillen House for a weekend get away in June and really enjoyed seeing this historic home that was completely renovated prior to opening in the late spring. This couple will host you and entertain you ....or give you all the space you desire. Cynzia is an accomplished artist and Chef Edward lays out an outstanding breakfast. Together they are prefect hosts - we highly recommend this B&B for a weekend or a week! I included a picture of the back yard looking out over the pond, garden and putting green... it was a superb morning coffee spot!

What a treasure this place is, along with its’ hosts Cynzia and Edward. The house is newly remodeled and has such large, spacious areas. My room, Amarillo (Yellow), was as large as my own living room and so bright and sunny. Sitting under ceiling fans on the expansive wrap-around porch was delightful and certainly brought about the start of my relaxing weekend in Maxeys, Georgia. Be sure to find time to visit the turtles in the large pond out back. There’s nothing like sipping a cold beverage and putting your feet up while listening to the sounds of nature as the sun sets. Such a delightful spot and I’m glad to have made the trip. The hustle of Atlanta seemed far, far away.
