Holiday Inn Express Marseille - Saint Charles

I stayed two nights at the hotel the staff was good and breakfast too, the only thing was that my room was facing the street and it was kind of noisy for an open window. Otherwise, perfect location close to the main train station and very easy to get to the Old Port.

Great location but slightly overpriced for what you get. Well I was given a room with the terrace - if you can call it that - more or less a service walk out towards the air-conditioner unit. Breakfast was acceptable - nothing is served hot it you can fill yourself. I was disappointed that there was no cut fresh fruit on the second day (they had apples in a basket). The room was clean and well cared for. However the areas to improve are below and the reasons why they get 3 stars: - mattress felt lumpy but pillows were good - internet slows down a lot in the evening. - It was quite surprising that there was no power outlet on either side of the bed. Where am I to plug in my cell phone for viewing the time in the middle of the night and for waking up using my phone's alarm? Holiday Inn Express Dubai seems to get a little bit lower and lower in the amenities provided in the room and bathroom. I am now taking a bar of soap and shampoo with me.

We stayed here our first night in Marseilles as we were on transfer to Arles for a river cruise the next day. It was just what we needed. Convenient to the train stain, nice room, quiet and convenient for seeing the city on foot. Breakfast was solid, good selections. Staff were very nice and helpful. They kept our luggage so we could tour in the morning. Overall very positive experience.

I stayed one night at this hotel staff was good and brkfst too. But the ladie at the lobby from the management i think the GM of the hotel she is really rude. I dont know how she can be GM with that kind attitude

After, a 2h 30m drive from nice Airport we checked in as a family traveling with children at 10:30pm and upon arriving in the room we realised we had been given a room already occupied with two people lying on a bed in there night clothes you can imagine how we felt. after going back to Reception and 40mins later arrived at our second room which was dirty with pubic hair in the bed and bathroom. It was a dingy room looking out to the horrible train station. The breakfast went like this : there was no tables so we had to clear some of our juice had ran out there was no spoons croissants were good coffee was ok glass and plate were chipped no tea spoons I feel after this alldeal I should have been fully refunded Hotel is in pool location with beggars outside the train station what a disappointment.

All staff were friendly and helpful and the room overlooked Saint Charles station for Eurostar just across the road. The bar was comfortable and the hot bar snacks adequate for our needs for just one night and the breakfast was good.

Just across the road from the railway station makes this a very convenient stopover. Breakfast adequate, does not supply dinner Room had tea/coffee facilities Easy walking distance to the harbour which is where the life of Marseille is!

Nice sized rooms and very good breakfast choices. Had a problem with the Hotel Wifi but not really a problem now that roaming is free in EU with UK mobiles. Reception acted positively when we reported that the sink plug was stuck. As maintenance was not available they upgraded us to a room with outdoor terrace complete with sunbeds ! This may have been due to us being IHG members. If so I would recommend other frequent travellers to sign up. We could not have been happier. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and thought that location and value versus price was unbeatable.

We came for a long weekend in the beginning of October and lived the hotel a lot. We weren’t sure if we chose the right location to stay in Marseille, since it is far away from the beaches and the most important touristic attractions (like Notre-Dame de la Garde church and La Major cathedral), but it is situated across the street from the train station where you can take the metro to go to all the main important points that are far away). We had a room on the 6th floor that had a view of the city, the sea and were looking straight at Notte-Dame de la Garde). Breakfast was good and open until 10:30 am, which we found great for our holiday and the room clean and the bed comfortable. The staff was also very friendly and everything was taken care of.

Great budget friendly hotel in close proximity to Marseille St Charles train station. The neighbourhood is not so salubrious at night, but is ok during the daytime. Plenty of eateries nearby & relatively easy to walk to the Vieux Port as a tourist. This hotel provides all the basic needs & a reasonable comfort level without going over the top. Staff are friendly, efficient & most speak English & French & are happy to provide info when required. The rooms are not huge, but our bed was queen sized (altho’ a little on the hard side) & the pillows are smaller than usual. All the usual facilities, like flat screen TV, aircon, tea/coffee making facilities & decent bathroom are available, along with a desk & chair & small lounge. The free WIFI in the rooms can be very patchy & inconsistent & works better downstairs in the lounge/bar area. A small lounge/bar area is located alongside reception & seems to cater for most needs. There is also an outside lounge area, altho this can be windy at times. Breakfast in the dining room is efficient, with patrons required to collect their tray of crockery & cutlery before selecting a table. Reasonable selection of breakfast foods to choose from, altho’ the OJ was pretty ordinary. Cereals, yoghurt, eggs, cheese & cold meats, breads, pastries & croissants together with tea & coffee are all readily available. Patrons must also return their tray of used utensils to the cart on completion. All seems to work quite efficiently, altho’ I have not seen this practice used anywhere else. Check-in/check-out was quick & easy & luggage can be stored if necessary. Overall a pretty good experience & can recommend for someone needing easy access to the train station.
