Just across the road from the train station this hotel was a good choice for our four day stay in Marseille. The staff were professional and friendly. They made sure that we were okay and asked if there was anything they could do to help. The room was good, spacious and overlooked the station. It was quiet although it was on a busy road.
Stayed here for two nights in what is, I have to say, one of the dreariest and most threatening cities I have had the displeasure of visiting. The best thing about this property is its convenient location directly across from the main rail / metro station so you can get in (and out!) of Marseille really easily. Rooms fairly standard and clean / comfortable enough albeit the entire hotel reeked of cleaning fluid. Whilst the staff were helpful and courteous the inclusive buffet breakfast was very poor - plenty of it but poor quality food which was poorly presented. We we so unimpressed that we resorted to buying a baguette and decent breakfast cereals from the adjacent Carrefour City and cancelled our planned third night here. If there was going to be next time in Marseille (and I very much doubt that will be the case) I would definitely not return.
We stayed there for 3 nights before our cruise from 30 Nov to 3rd Dec 2017. The location is superb as it was just right across from the Saint Charles train station as we took a train from Paris to Marseille which was a great 2 hours & 50 minutes ride. Carrefour market is just right next door and there are quite a few small caffe & take-away. There are also quite a number of shops and eateries inside the Saint Charles station. Walking to the main shopping area is about 20 - 25 minutes away and to the old port which has terrific views. The receptionist is very friendly & helpful when we made our several inquiries about getting around Marseille. The gentleman receptionist even extended our check-out time by asking me to fill up the membership card, which was great as this allows us extra time for last minute shopping since we only need to check into the cruise ship after 2.00 pm. The buffet breakfast which has an adequate spread consist of cold cut, different types of roll, croissant, bread, fruits, yogurt, 3 espresso / cappuccino coffee making machine, fruit juices & water. The design of the hotel is simple clean cut modern. The room is clean and even though our room faces the main road, it's window is sound-proof. it has coffee & tea making facility in the room also. Marseille is a surprisingly lovely city to visit. .
Great location being very close to the train station. Very good breakfast though too many people for too few tables. OK room, decent shower and good curtains. The hotel has thin walls and thus quite noisy from other guests. Check in was appalling and took over 30 minutes, despite having arrived early and left our cases in the store. We were not alone as later in the evening we waited at the bar to have a drink and had to wait 30 minutes again whilst some more poor guests were booked in. The lady at check-in was also receptionist. Beware if you book this hotel and are in a hurry.
We stayed here for four nights two weeks ago. Just across the road from the train and bus station. We asked for a quiet room and had a superior room on the third floor at the back of the hotel and it was quiet. It still seemed quite a basic room although classed as "superior", with little storage and not very big, however it was clean and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was cheese, ham, boiled eggs, cereal, yogurt and various pastries etc. Perfectly adequate. Reception staff were all pleasant and helpful. On our last night we were asleep and the fire alarm went off so we had to evacuate the room and head off down the fire escape. Found ourselves in a courtyard with a locked gate on to the street and apart from another couple no one else around. Went back into the hotel via a side entrance to find one man on reception routinely dealing with people probably checking in. No one on hand to tell us what was going on or what to do. Not good. That needs to be rectified. Turned out someone had been smoking in a room and set the alarm off. Despite that we would stay there again because of the quiet room and location.
We were interested to go to Cannes, Aix en Provence, Cassis and the train to Lyon. It worked out better than we anticipated. We drove in from Montpellier and glad to find the hotel across the street from the SNCF train station. Hotel parking was easy to access and Free!!. In a country where street parking, when you can find it, is 2€/hour that was a real surprise. The room was basic to an extreme, however clean and comfortable, good housekeeping, and knowledgeable front desk personnel. Included was a breakfast that I can describe as sufficient, but it is also included in the reasonable prices the hotel charges. Not sure how to rate the number of stars, but the hotel lacks many of the items found in 4 star and 5 star hotel. Whatever, the facilities and staff they do offer are all 5 star. So I’m bringing rating up to 4 star for the excellent way they handle what is available.
I have chosen this hotel because its location, very close to the railway station and to the areas of major interest. This Holiday inn is in a modern and well equipped construction. The room is very good and well soundproofed, no noise coming from the street can be heard; the bed is very comfortable with four pillows available, plenty of tv channels in several languages, locker. The bathroom is also good, although small sink , shower is large enough, good water jet, basic toilet complimentary items, 4 towels. A plus, if you have forgotten something like shave cream, razor, etc, staff will be gladly help you. just ask ! For breakfast large selection of sweet and salty dishes and drinks . The staff in any area of the hotel is really polite and very kind; special thanks to monsieur Nour Eddine, at the reception, who solved a problem with the sink in my room immediately by moving me into a new and better room! Finally this hotel has a Carrefour supermarket open till midnight at 30 metres, and a pharmacy in front of it, for any need. Good value for money. Definitely I will be back! In my first room 215, the sink was blocked and the water didn't go away, also the lamp by the window didn't work, in the second room 209 everything was ok , but the locker was out; if I can give you an advice is to daily check that all the appliances in the room and in the bathroom runs in perfect order. Time saved for the hotel and happier customers.
I stayed two nights at the hotel the staff was good and breakfast too, the only thing was that my room was facing the street and it was kind of noisy for an open window. Otherwise, perfect location close to the main train station and very easy to get to the Old Port.
Great location but slightly overpriced for what you get. Well I was given a room with the terrace - if you can call it that - more or less a service walk out towards the air-conditioner unit. Breakfast was acceptable - nothing is served hot it you can fill yourself. I was disappointed that there was no cut fresh fruit on the second day (they had apples in a basket). The room was clean and well cared for. However the areas to improve are below and the reasons why they get 3 stars: - mattress felt lumpy but pillows were good - internet slows down a lot in the evening. - It was quite surprising that there was no power outlet on either side of the bed. Where am I to plug in my cell phone for viewing the time in the middle of the night and for waking up using my phone's alarm? Holiday Inn Express Dubai seems to get a little bit lower and lower in the amenities provided in the room and bathroom. I am now taking a bar of soap and shampoo with me.
We stayed here our first night in Marseilles as we were on transfer to Arles for a river cruise the next day. It was just what we needed. Convenient to the train stain, nice room, quiet and convenient for seeing the city on foot. Breakfast was solid, good selections. Staff were very nice and helpful. They kept our luggage so we could tour in the morning. Overall very positive experience.
