We had a great stay at this historic old hotel! The staff was super friendly and the hotel retained many original features from the 20's and was very charming! "Breakfast" was not much of anything, but it was a good value even without the breakfast.

This hotel continues to be a great spot to stay. The rooms are always spotlessly clean and that staff are pleasant and helpful. I stayed one night, on Dec. 30, and it was busier than usual, but my accommodations were perfect. I can recommend this little gem to anyone looking for a quiet room in a small, friendly town.

This is a beautiful, historic hotel with a lot of charm and character. The architecture and interior details really stand out, and you can tell the building has a story to it. I genuinely enjoyed the overall aesthetic and atmosphere—it feels like a place with history rather than just another generic hotel. The location is also a big plus, with plenty of great dining options and spots to explore within easy walking distance. I would have given this stay five stars if not for two issues. First, the HVAC system didn’t seem to function as advertised. While it allows adjustments of ±5° from a 70° set point, setting it to the cooler side still left the room uncomfortably warm throughout the night. Second, there was an intermittent loud noise, about once an hour that sounded like something heavy being dropped on the floor. As a light sleeper, this made it difficult to get consistent rest and was unfortunately the biggest downside of the stay. Overall, it’s a lovely and distinctive hotel, and with a bit of attention to those issues, it could easily be an exceptional place to stay.

After driving 10 hours and checking in and going to bed to prepare for another long drive, a family with three young children was placed in the adjoining room . . . They stayed up until 1am yelling and screaming along with the parents along with slamming doors stomping/jumping on the floors . . . They then woke us up at 6:45am and continued this behavior until we finally gave up and checked out . . . We reported this to the front desk were handed the bill and literally no response of any kind was given!!! Totally unacceptable!!!

We always enjoy our stay here. Imani, the front desk clerk, is such a delight to talk with. The mattresses are getting a little saggy, but the historic charm and comfort of the hotel is always on point. We appreciate being able to walk to restaurants and the convenient locations to drive to whatever we need. We were bummed the Swamp Fox closed an hour earlier than advertised, though.

Hidden gem. Exceptionally friendly staff, great room, nice restaurant, coffee set up, and it’s a true historic type hotel well done - architects and developers spend a lot to build new as a “boutique” property but this is it and the real deal. 10/10 would recommend.

My husband broke his foot, so he’s in a wheelchair / Roller and I’m the luggage carrier. Imagine seeing beautiful stairs and no elevator. Hannah saves the day , her enthusiasm for the historical significance of the place is contagious. She goes down a flight of stairs , through a door where my husband can roll through, and while I’m waiting to see how this plays out, she becomes a magician and produces an elevator , hidden , and I get excited because it really looks like a dumbwaiter - I just walked back into a prior time of the gilded age . Instantly I am envious that my husband gets to ride in it , and Hannah continues to tell the history of the hotel. The Ballroom, the Card room, she rearranges furniture so my husband can get through to see it all (I put everything back in place) . Now we are both excited, forgetting to even check in, wondering what she produces next and Hannah did not disappoint , an old operator switchboard ! The original key to the Hotel, in a shadow box. All these treasures , and Hannah looks so young to have this knowledge! We check in , luggage complete , and off we go to explore the area . We come back with Little Debbie Christmas snacks for Hannah, but she’s gone. Shift over. The Hotel is wonderful , and the staff make the little hiccups ( my husband got stuck in the elevator , it just stopped working ) a minute situation.
