Three full floors, three bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms in a Lakeside Marblehead condo community on Ohio's Lake Erie coast. Each level has its own living space, so a group of up to 12, two families or a crew on a long assignment can spread out instead of sharing one room. From November through March the condo is offered for monthly stays of 30+ nights with utilities included.
Why it works for a longer stay:
- Three bedrooms with doors and 3.5 bathrooms, so nobody waits for a shower
- Utilities included
- WiFi at 100+ Mbps, and a desk and chair in the kitchen for laptop days
- Laundry room with a washer and dryer
- Central heating and air conditioning
- Four parking spaces: one inside the detached garage, one in front of it and two right outside the front door. Work trucks are welcome as long as each fits in a standard parking space.
First floor:
- Bedroom 1: queen bed with a twin bunk above
- Game room with a large Smart TV, foosball table, wet bar and a full-size pull-out sofa
- Full bathroom
- Patio with a gas grill (the patio row is shared with neighboring units)
Second floor:
- Open living and dining room with a full-size pull-out sofa
- Full kitchen: dishwasher, oven, microwave, coffee maker, wine fridge, pots, pans and dishes
- Desk and chair in the kitchen
- Laundry room with washer and dryer
- Half bathroom
- Screened balcony with partial Lake Erie views
Third floor:
- Bedroom 2: queen bed, its own full bathroom (double sinks, jetted tub and shower), Smart TV and a private balcony
- Bedroom 3: queen bed plus a full bed, its own full bathroom and a Smart TV
For families: a pack 'n play, toddler bed and high chair are provided.
Guest access:
The whole three-floor condo is yours, except one closet in the third-floor primary bedroom that is marked private for owner storage. The heated pool belongs to the condo association, is shared with residents and is open Memorial Day to Labor Day only. The condo is separate from the neighboring Baypoint resort, and its pools, beaches and marina are not included. There is no direct lake access or walkable beach from the property.
The area:
You're on the Marblehead peninsula, where Lake Erie wraps around three sides. The Marblehead Lighthouse, the oldest continuously operating lighthouse on the Great Lakes, is a few minutes away. Its tower is open for climbs on weekends into mid-October, and the free Lakeside-Marblehead Lighthouse Festival is held on the second Saturday of October.
Fall is walleye season. Charter captains run from Marblehead and Catawba Island marinas, and Port Clinton calls itself the Walleye Capital of the World. On Catawba Island, Twin Oast Brewing (a 60-acre farm brewery) and Gideon Owen Wine Company (a historic winery with stone cellars and a restaurant) make an easy afternoon. Cedar Point's Halloweekends run on fall weekends until early November.
In winter the peninsula goes quiet. Lakeside lights its Christmas tree in early December, Port Clinton drops a giant walleye at midnight on New Year's Eve, and in years when the ice is safe, guided ice-fishing trips go out from Catawba and the islands. East Harbor State Park's trails and shoreline are a short drive away in any season.
Getting around:
You'll want a car. Approximate drive times: Port Clinton (groceries, Magruder Hospital) about 15 minutes; Sandusky (Firelands Regional Medical Center, Kalahari's indoor water park) about 30 minutes; Cedar Point 35 to 40 minutes; Toledo about an hour; Cleveland Hopkins Airport about 1 hour 15 minutes.
Good to know:
- Three floors, lots of stairs, no elevator. Bedrooms are on the first and third floors, and the kitchen and living room are on the second. Please think about this if anyone in your group has trouble with stairs.
- The pool is a seasonal association amenity, open Memorial Day to Labor Day. We don't control its hours.
- Near the lake, not on it. Balcony views of Lake Erie are partial, over neighboring rooftops.
- This is a condo community with shared walls and a shared patio row. Sound carries, so quiet hours are 10 PM to 8 AM.
- Monthly stays (30+ nights, November through March) require a signed rental agreement, a refundable security deposit and a background check. Utilities are included. There are no mid-stay cleans or linen changes; the washer and dryer are yours to use.
- A starter supply of toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, dish and hand soap and laundry pods is provided. For longer stays, plan to restock your own.
- Please bring shampoo, conditioner and beach or pool towels.
- Lake Erie mayflies and other bugs are common in May and June. Keeping exterior lights off helps.
- Primary renter must be 21+. No pets, no parties. No smoking inside the condo, including the balconies; smoking outside is OK away from windows and open doors.
