Good value for a very central hotel on a lovely Spanish plaza. The reception area is arty and functional. Our room equally good a decent size with modern fittings and interesting layout. We looked on to Plaza Santa Anna but with triple glazing we were not disturbed by the late night revellers. There is no restaurant or bar but an associated sushi bar where you can take breakfast next door. We didn’t bother as seeking out interesting bars or coffee shops is part of the fun of being in a foreign city. Only complaint - our room smelt a bit musty, well actually very musty by the basin area which is not enclosed in a separate bathroom. The room was very clean so that was not the issue. Water leak somewhere maybe but our friends on floor 4 had similar observations. We mentioned it on check out and staff suitably grateful for the feedback. All in all a good place but as room sizes differ definitely worth making sure you have chosen right room for you when booking.
I stayed at Room Mate Alicia 3 nights. I had requested a quiet room so I was facing the back - no view but no noise whatsoever. And yet, I was steps from lively tapas places and a short walk away from Plaza Mayor and El Prado museum. Fantastic location. The staff couldn't have been nicer and more professional. When a strike was announced on the day I was to fly to France, they said not to worry and go about my day. They tracked my flight for me and when I got back to the hotel they told me everything was fine and my flight was confirmed. Now that's service! And my favorite thing is that they serve breakfast until noon - and they had gluten-free bread for me. Heaven!
We have stayed in ROOM MATE ALICIA for 2 nights - 26-28/10/17. First when we arrived we were told that we got an upgraded room - just because they had one, and for no extra charge. the room was great, very spacious and well designed. we really liked to see the effort put in to the small details - nice and original amenities, very nice letters in the room, a personal letter from the housekeeper who made the room for us etc. Also the restaurant in the hotel - Miss sushi was very good (we had a perfect dinner there in the first night), as well as the rich breakfast. But most important for us was the staff - Salva who helped to find nice places in the city and in renting a car, Michaela (the director of the hotel) who was very nice and pleasant. we have been in the hotel just before Holloween and it was very nice to see how all the staff helped with the special decoration - from the security personal, to housekeeping and even Michaela the director. Thank you so much for a lovely experience. Yaron & Bar Lipman - Israel
Situated on the corner of Plaza Santa Ana, this hotel is ideally situated to visit everything that Madrid has to offer! The hotel is quirky, the staff friendly and informative. The rooms are spacious and well designed. The toiletries like the hotel are of good quality and fun! Surprisingly there are also tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms. Very comfortable beds! A reasonably priced, well located hotel.
Good location at Plaza Sta. Ana, - within walking distance to the main attractions. Small hotel, nicely decorated, 24 h service reception desk, good and clean rooms. Breakfast ok, but the area with the food could have had more light. Coffee from one single slow machine is taking to much time. They should find a better system for coffee and tea.
This was my first time in Madrid and my second time in a room mate hotel this year, it didn't disappoint. Love the pop art themes and the colour is very welcoming Yellow! The hotel is relatively easy to find and is situated in a very central area of Madrid. The staff are very friendly and the little restaurant at the side is a very intimate atmosphere.
We had a 3 night stay in Madrid in later October. The hotel is brilliantly located on the corner of Plaza Santa Anna, so within easy walking distance of many major attractions and an unprecedented number of places to eat. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Buffet breakfast was lovely and served in the next door sushi restaurant; quirky but not strange. We stayed on the 2nd floor Junior Suite and whilst the square is a busy, vibrant place day and night, the double glazed sound proofing does a very good job of blocking out most of the sound from the square. The floor to ceiling curtains do a great job of blocking out the light and also help with insulating the room from external sounds. However, our only gripe is that the room's internal sound insulation is not as affective and so we could hear adjacent guests using their bathroom facilities! Not a major problem as it wasn't constant, but did wake us up earlier than we would have liked. Despite this, the room itself was lovely and spacious, with great views over the square, a good array of complimentary toiletries, large, comfortable bed (quite firm, which is what we prefer) and comfy armchair and sofa area. If you are looking for a centrally placed, comfortable hotel with wonderful staff, choose Room Mate Alicia.
We loved staying at the funky super cool Room Mate Alicia because it was right on the Plaza Santa Ana and so very close to everything! The rooms were comfortable and we loved the terrace of our duplex room with a cooling plunge pool - and views over the Plaza. Gorgeous!
I agree with all the positive comments but their soundproofing is horrible. My first room was a double on the second floor and it was fine. I moved to the 108 single when hubby left for conference and there was a loud intermittent mechanical sound every 1-2 minutes from above. Lovely staff moved me to 107 (a double at no extra charge) and there was a loud whine every time anyone entered the restaurant right below. Then was woken at 6 AM when the Restaurant started setting up for breakfast Can’t wait to leave tomorrow - thank God for Ambien!
We booked the Junior Suite (303) on the third floor with corner window overlooking Plaza Santa Ana. The double glazing was completely effective giving us a calm quiet ambience, the suite was immaculately clean and extremely comfortable. Situated in the heart of the old centre and we were surrounded a plethora of Restaurants, Bars and Theatres, for what isn’t within immediate walking distance, then Puerta de Sol is only a few minutes walk away and the terrain is easy and flat. There you can pick up the Metro, an assortment of buses, to the Madrid tour bus. The Staff were pleasant, and extremely helpful and full of useful advice. I am afraid that with such a choice of eateries close by we didn’t try the Hotel breakfast therefor unable to comment, ditto the attached Sushi restaurant. We spent a wonderful 4 days exploring Madrid from an exceptional base with no fault to find.
