Room Mate Alicia

Reading all of the reviews for Room Mate hotels, we bought in and stayed at three of them during our waltz across Spain (Anna in Barcelona and Leo in Granada). Each one seemed too good to be true, but the Alicia met our expectations excellently. For the price (taking into consideration Madrid's average) we were blown away by the service, location, and amenities the hotel offered. The rooms were cozy and great for a landing place at night. The beds firm, the water pressure great, the units clean, etc.. The location on the Santa Ana plaza was also superb. You could walk to the Sol plaza in ten minutes, and everything just seemed within arms-reach or a quick bus or subway ride away. We'd definitely stay here again not only for the spend savings, but for the overall enjoyable, convenient, comfortable four night stay we had while here. Non-smoking, free wifi, mini-fridge, pass on the breakfast (cheaper options abound). We ate at Lateral next-door twice. Get an exterior facing standard room. You'll be thankful for the windows facing outside!

The front desk staff is welcoming, informed, friendly and non- jaded. We stayed four nights. They all were terrific the whole time. We paid just over $85.00 U.S. for our room. It was slightly different prices each of the four nights. Rooms are spotlessly clean. Beds are really comfortable. Nice sheets and pillows. Ventilation works well. The room is quiet. It is hard to imagine a better location to get to food, markets, museums, places to sit outside on a plaza for beer in the afternoon. Easy and safe walking everywhere. There are little stores nearby to grab some snacks and wine to have in your room. The buffet breakfast which is extra on top of your daily room charge if you want it it is really good. Only slight downside is it is served in a sushi restaurant-by-night and in the daylight is a bit like a bordello. Lots of pink velvet upholstery and decorations right out of a an old American western move motif. Probably much better in the low light of the evening Kind of fun though once you get used to it and the breakfast food is varied, well prepared and quite good. No complaints about the hotel and no suggestions for improvements which is rare with me and my spouse as we have travelled to nearly 40 countries in our 35 years together.

Well, the title says everything, but I'll add some more: This gorgeous boutique hotel is located in front of Plaza de Santa Ana, which is a beautiful square in the Las Letras neighborhood. This is "Old Madrid" with narrow streets, reconstructed historical buildings and a romantic and less crowded atmosphere. Don't expect empty streets though. Less crowded means less. It is still a touristic spot. It is close to everything. Actually during our 4 nights in this hotel, we never used public transport. We booked a Junior Suite for a reasonable price, with breakfast. The suite was breathtaking. Modern spacious, clean and comfortable. And the view is directly to Plaza Santa Ana. Take a look at the attached photos. I arrived on an early flight from the US, before our room was ready, but Eva, at the front desk made any effort to speed up the process. Eva was so nice and professional, I felt welcome and it was so nice to see a friendly face after a long and tiring journey from the US. Breakfast at the hotel is served at the adjoining Sushi restaurant. You can have a la carte choice of eggs done for you, and there are plenty of other hot and cold options like pastries, frittata, rolls, cheese' cold cuts, yogurts and fruits. Lovely breakfast. Bottom line, We enjoyed our stay, staff was friendly. I would definitely stay again at this great hotel.

We chose Hotel Room Mate Alicia based on the reviews and location...and what a fantastic location on the square. Our room faced the square that had abundant activity thoughout the day and early evening. Never once was there annoying street noise. That staff was very helpful and informative. Great central location in Madrid. Highly recommended.

Great location and wonderful service! Wish we had gotten a room with a view, but we weren't in the room much so it didn't matter that much. Comfy bed! Great shower, just wish the bathroom area was more private :)

I stayed here for 2 nights for business, they made sure i had a quiet room. And although you are really!!!! In the center and on the santa ana plaza, is was quiet, also at night. In the room i had a shower almost in the middle of the room, but i like this type of designs. The breakfast is awesome! Fruit, healthy food but also typical dishes of spain. Thank you for making my business trip so relaxing.

This hotel is extremely well located for all your Madrid needs. Placed on the corner of a nice Plaza, it's in easy walking distance of museums, shopping, hop on hop off bus routes and lots of bars and cafes. You feel like you are in the middle of everything and yet the rooms are super insulated from the buzz of the streets. We were in a Jr. Suite which was very nicely designed and laid out, had a great view of the Plaza and was everything we could have asked for. The bed was super comfy, the shower and toilet were great, as was the large bath tub. Front desk and housekeeping were engaged, cheerful and great to us. I've read complaints about the small elevator and the heat in the rooms. A lot of older buildings in these historic cities have been retrofitted to include an elevator so they tend to be small. Saying that, I am a claustrophobe and had no issue getting in this elevator. Also, we learned quickly how to adjust the room temp. so I don't understand those who had issues. Would stay here again without hesitation. Even though we were at the end of a multi city driving trip and starting to get homesick, we were sad to leave Alicia.

I stayed in the hotel with 2 kids. All of us liked this place. Very short distance from the heart of Madrid. Clean and comfortable rooms. It seems to me they are a bit small but if you stay not a long time it is ok. The staff is polite and helpful. Definitely come back.

I struggle with how to review this hotel. The location on the Plaza de Santa Ana is superb; one of the most charming in Madrid with many delicious indoor and outdoor eating options steps away. The staff were friendly, especially Salva who was exceptional in making our stay fun and rewarding. Thank you Salva! The room had a warm designer touch facing just off the square which made it a bit more quiet on the weekend and the breakfast was very tasty in a Japanese restaurant next store that you could enter through the hotel. All of which might provide a Joie de vivre feel, for a romantic couple. Down side. The room was a strange pie shape with the sink and shower in the center, albeit discreetly painted so as to provide some privacy, and the lobby had the most provocative art displays I've ever seen in a hotel, with a sadomasochistic theme of dozens of varied sized paintings saying: KILL ME, EAT ME, BITE ME or KISS ME.. Since I was traveling with my sister, while fascinated and humored by the art, (video and painted) it was a bit jarring and the room design challenging. All of which made the price seem a high. Over the three nights it ranged from $190-$260. Because of the art, location, energy, and beauty of Madrid it will be one of our most memorable of boutique hotels we've stayed at around the world. Not regrettable however not sure we'd stay there again.

I was supposed to stay in Room Mate Alicia for a week, but several flight cancellations resulted in only 1 night stay. I wish it had been more, as I loved everything about it! The room was huge, with a nice design and comfortable bath tub, great corner view as well. Still it was quiet and I slept great in the comfortable bed. Breakfast was delicious and in a very cozy setting, but best of all was the staff. Pablo and Eva in Front desk, Elena in breakfast and Micaela the Hotel manager who left a very sweet note and surprise. True stars! All in all it was a great stay, and I can't wait to go back!
