I stayed in the hotel with 2 kids. All of us liked this place. Very short distance from the heart of Madrid. Clean and comfortable rooms. It seems to me they are a bit small but if you stay not a long time it is ok. The staff is polite and helpful. Definitely come back.
I struggle with how to review this hotel. The location on the Plaza de Santa Ana is superb; one of the most charming in Madrid with many delicious indoor and outdoor eating options steps away. The staff were friendly, especially Salva who was exceptional in making our stay fun and rewarding. Thank you Salva! The room had a warm designer touch facing just off the square which made it a bit more quiet on the weekend and the breakfast was very tasty in a Japanese restaurant next store that you could enter through the hotel. All of which might provide a Joie de vivre feel, for a romantic couple. Down side. The room was a strange pie shape with the sink and shower in the center, albeit discreetly painted so as to provide some privacy, and the lobby had the most provocative art displays I've ever seen in a hotel, with a sadomasochistic theme of dozens of varied sized paintings saying: KILL ME, EAT ME, BITE ME or KISS ME.. Since I was traveling with my sister, while fascinated and humored by the art, (video and painted) it was a bit jarring and the room design challenging. All of which made the price seem a high. Over the three nights it ranged from $190-$260. Because of the art, location, energy, and beauty of Madrid it will be one of our most memorable of boutique hotels we've stayed at around the world. Not regrettable however not sure we'd stay there again.
I was supposed to stay in Room Mate Alicia for a week, but several flight cancellations resulted in only 1 night stay. I wish it had been more, as I loved everything about it! The room was huge, with a nice design and comfortable bath tub, great corner view as well. Still it was quiet and I slept great in the comfortable bed. Breakfast was delicious and in a very cozy setting, but best of all was the staff. Pablo and Eva in Front desk, Elena in breakfast and Micaela the Hotel manager who left a very sweet note and surprise. True stars! All in all it was a great stay, and I can't wait to go back!
The location was excellent for wandering around Madrid. The price, at least in early December, was very reasonable at under $100 a night. The hotel is quirky like all Room Mate hotels. And like all Room Mate hotels, some of the people who work there are very nice while others range from surly to downright unpleasant.
I have mixed feelings about this place so here it goes: Pros Great location. I mean every time I walked out the door I just stopped and looked, listened and smelled. You can feel the raw energy pulsing from all the sidewalk cafes and passersby in the plaza. Close to most attractions. Tons of restaurants. The room was very comfortable and surprisingly spacious for the price. Attentive and helpful staff. Quiet, surprisingly so considering the busy location. Cons Offensive post modern art installation in lobby and stairwell with slogans such as “Eat me”, “Bite me”, “Kill me”. I never would stayed there had I known. The shower: actually a really nice shower but we had to run the water for 10 minutes to get hot water. That's a lot of Madrid's water down the drain. To be fair, when we told the front desk staff he looked appalled and said he'd look into it. Hot and hard to sleep at night even though we ran the AC. I should have asked staff to turn the heat down. All the same, a really good deal for the center of Madrid I think.
After one year since our last visit, we decided to go back to Madrid and of course stay in Alicia again. It remains our favorite hotel in the city without any doubt. Every single detail is taken care of, always with a smile. We will definitely be back, hopefully very soon!
We had a great time at the hotel, although now that we know Madrid better i would recommend Roommate Oscar for better location and nicer interior and roof terrace. We had a great time, service and staff were really impeccable, and very helpful even with tips and recommendations.
Good value for a very central hotel on a lovely Spanish plaza. The reception area is arty and functional. Our room equally good a decent size with modern fittings and interesting layout. We looked on to Plaza Santa Anna but with triple glazing we were not disturbed by the late night revellers. There is no restaurant or bar but an associated sushi bar where you can take breakfast next door. We didn’t bother as seeking out interesting bars or coffee shops is part of the fun of being in a foreign city. Only complaint - our room smelt a bit musty, well actually very musty by the basin area which is not enclosed in a separate bathroom. The room was very clean so that was not the issue. Water leak somewhere maybe but our friends on floor 4 had similar observations. We mentioned it on check out and staff suitably grateful for the feedback. All in all a good place but as room sizes differ definitely worth making sure you have chosen right room for you when booking.
I stayed at Room Mate Alicia 3 nights. I had requested a quiet room so I was facing the back - no view but no noise whatsoever. And yet, I was steps from lively tapas places and a short walk away from Plaza Mayor and El Prado museum. Fantastic location. The staff couldn't have been nicer and more professional. When a strike was announced on the day I was to fly to France, they said not to worry and go about my day. They tracked my flight for me and when I got back to the hotel they told me everything was fine and my flight was confirmed. Now that's service! And my favorite thing is that they serve breakfast until noon - and they had gluten-free bread for me. Heaven!
We have stayed in ROOM MATE ALICIA for 2 nights - 26-28/10/17. First when we arrived we were told that we got an upgraded room - just because they had one, and for no extra charge. the room was great, very spacious and well designed. we really liked to see the effort put in to the small details - nice and original amenities, very nice letters in the room, a personal letter from the housekeeper who made the room for us etc. Also the restaurant in the hotel - Miss sushi was very good (we had a perfect dinner there in the first night), as well as the rich breakfast. But most important for us was the staff - Salva who helped to find nice places in the city and in renting a car, Michaela (the director of the hotel) who was very nice and pleasant. we have been in the hotel just before Holloween and it was very nice to see how all the staff helped with the special decoration - from the security personal, to housekeeping and even Michaela the director. Thank you so much for a lovely experience. Yaron & Bar Lipman - Israel
