Located on 5th floor (lessons street noise). Good location near two different subway lines, and many good restaurants and sites. Good price for madrid downtown. Clean, safe. You have too look careful for sign to find it. We did get swan towels on bed! Bed was comfortable.
This was my second visit to this Hostal and what a fantastic little place it is.I booked via email direct with the hotel in October 2016 and before setting off to Madrid we exchanged emails a few times regarding the kind of room I would have liked. Each email was dealt with by the hotel in a very swift manner.I asked for a room at the front of the building with a small balcony and on arrival was given room 55 which was just as I asked for. What a great little room it was.Quite small but more than ample for just me.Storage wasnt a problem and the wardrobe had more hangers in it than pretty much any hotel I have been to in the world and a very comfortable bed.Every member of staff that I encountered made me feel welcome and the location was perfect.God willing I will be back again next year. The first time I booked this hotel back in 2015 I communicated with them via email again and said that i wanted somewhere which I could call my home in Madrid and I found it.
Hostal is right in the center of Madrid (between Opera & Sol metro station). It is very clean and has comfortable beds. Rooms are small, but include all you need. The nights are quite as it is located on 5th floor. There is no other facilities but I did not need anything else beside bed and private bathroom. I was traveling solo for a few days, but I would recommend it also for couples. Would stay again here when in Madrid.
It's one of the best hostal I ever stayed. The location is great, near to everything a tourist need. Including money exchange station, metro, a lot of tourist sight, and even some shopping store and great restaurants. It's close to open station and Sol station. The environment is super super super clean!! They clean your room everyday along ot just the same the day you moved in! Only with your luggage inside already. And the room also offer a safe box. The reception desk opens 24 hour and people there are friendly. They'll love to answer you any question. Really recommended!!
The reception is opened 24 hours. The location is perfect for anyone who wants to visit Madrid. All interesting places are in range few minutes (for example Plaza Mayor). Metro stations Sol or Opera are very close. You can find many bars in the neighborhood to eat tasty breakfast. The hostel is located on the 5th floor. There is a lift to reach the hostel. The room as well as bathroom were small. But I was alone therefore it was enough for me. I was in the winter time. The room was equipped with central heater and additionally there was a warm blanket. I spent here only 2 days (room 59) in January, 2017. The room was cleaned every day. The ratio quality to price is very good. I recommend this place for short visit in Madrid.
We knew what we were selected when we narrowed down to this hotel - good location - at walking distance from shopping area as well as subway, and clean rooms. It's a completely no frills hostal with very very clean rooms. The location is the best one can ask for. Rooms are very very small, but hey, at its price its a bargain!!
Couldn't have chosen a better hotel! Everything was super perfect! The staff was very helpful, from suggesting restaurants to helping us out as regards transport etc. Rooms are lovely and located in the best street possible, accessible only to pedestrians. Will definitely be back!
Booked via an online site that offered an additional discount, so it was excellent value for money. The deciding factor for choosing Rober over other hostales was that the room was advertised as a "Double Room With View." Usually, I book single rooms that wind up being tiny and dark. Pros: Fast check-in. I indeed did get a room with a view. Large French windows opened out onto a tiny balcony. Unlike the photos on the website though, my window did not open out to Calle Arenal, but rather onto the side street. However, I could still see the main street from the balcony, and it may have been marginally quieter than being right over Calle Arenal. The hostal is just a few steps from Opera Metro station. It is on the 5th floor, but with an elevator. The room was decent sized. The bathroom seemed modern/renovated, but was a little bit cramped. Free wifi was reliable and seemed fast. Quiet and efficient air conditioning, which was vital since the Madrid summer temperatures hit around 100 degrees F! I did not fly out until the evening, so they let me leave my bag for the afternoon after checking out. Cons: The biggest issue here may be the beds. They seem to be new, but don't have traditional mattresses, but rather feel like the foam pads you find on IKEA furniture and sleeper berths on trains and the like. A little bit too firm for my taste, initially, but I think I got used to it and did get a decent night's sleep. You also have to leave your key at the front desk every time you go out, though I probably never had to wait for more than a few seconds for someone to buzz me back into the building. In summary, a clean, safe, affordable hostal in a great location. Would stay again.
Hostal R. Rober is in a perfect location for a break in Madrid; everything you could want to see is in easy walking distance and there are plenty of places to eat/drink close by if you don't want to wander too far. Also, being so close to Plaza de Opera means you've also got great access to both metro and buses if you need to go further afield. We were traveling on quite a tight budget so it was great to find somewhere that was not only central, but still offered private facilities as well as the bonus of having a wee balcony (of the oversized windowsill variety!) to enjoy the view along Calle de Arenal. The staff were lovely; everything was spotlessly clean; and the bed very comfortable. Plus, even though Calle de Arenal is quite busy the balcony doors were well soundproofed so the noise was kept to a minimum and was never a bother. The water pressure in the shower was fantastic, though there wasn't a lot of space to move around in so I kept knocking into the off button! If it matters to you, there are also only Spanish channels on the TV (though there are also radio channels available). Oh, and the free wi-fi was incredibly fast and reliable. The only small thing I would change is it would have been nice to have a chain or similar security feature on the room door as it didn't feel very secure. All in all though, a great pick and I'd definitely return.
The location is very close to Opera Metro. The staff seemed pretty friendly when we first check in. They offer to help us with places we wanted to go in Madrid. We had three beds for two people because the two single beds were all taken. The nice part of this room is a private bathroom. When we asked for hot water they gave us a small teapot every night during our stay. Their english is ok with a bit of accent. But overall most travelers were all ages who lived in the hostel. There was a young couple who got married who also lived there as well. They made a towel swan for their welcoming stay. At the very last day we had our luggage in the front room for them to watch over while we visit more of Madrid. When we came back to the hostel our luggage was moved to the back living room without our permission and later our water bottle and our meal was later stolen or trashed out. We don't know what happened to our food but because they moved our luggage we lost our food and water. Make sure you keep your food and water in a safe place.
