We have stayed at this hotel almost every year since 2001 and it never disappoints. From the moment we land until the moment we return to the airport we are looked after by the very capable staff. With just a quick email the week before we start our holiday to the lovely reception Staff they organise our taxi that is waiting for us when we land, this whisk's us off to the hotel to be greeted like old friends at the hotel reception. Checking in is quick and efficient and the holiday starts. Throughout our stay all bar, restaurant, pool, cleaning, Spa, management and reception staff ate outstanding in making sure we have all we need to enjoy our holiday. The accommodation has everything we need, there are 3 out door pools and 2 indoor pools and wonderful gardens where you can sit and relax. There are 2 pool bars where you can get snacks and drinks. 3 restaurants on site and 1 just out side the complex. The entertainment programme is excellent and for the sport enthusiast there is a big screen where all the important fixtures are shown. I watched some of the 6 Nation Rugby matches whilst i was there. All in all i recommend if any reader has not stayed at this hotel and they are thinking of going to Madeira then book the Suite Hotel Eden Mar you will not be disappointed.

This was our 5th visit to Vila Porte Mare - 3rd time at the Eden Mar and once each at the Porte Mare and Residence. The weather wasn't great on a few days during our two weeks holiday but the INDOOR facilities are so good at the complex that several 'sunless' hours can be passed in luxurious surroundings. We were bed and breakfast but ate in the restaurant four times on an evening and had pizzas from La Basillica, the pizza restaurant linked to the complex. As ever the staff were excellent with everyone working with a smile on their faces. Most people we spoke to were repeat visitors which speaks volumes for the consistent quality at the Vila Porte Mare

This was our 4th visit in 3 yrs to the Eden Mar. High standards are consistently maintained. We love that from the moment we arrive, with a lovely greeting from the wonderful cecilia, that we are in our happy place. Everywhere is spotless, all the staff are friendly and helpful, gardens always beautiful. The indoor heated pools are nice at this time of year, outdoor pools too cold for us though. Hotel is always busy at breakfast but then most people seem to disappear, sun loungers a plenty, lovely relaxed atmosphere. Great food options although would appreciate more vegetarian choices. Happy hour cocktails are a must, lovely way to start the evening. This hotel is top quality at a very reasonable price, all rooms have sea view. They even gave us a bottle of bubbly for my wife's birthday. Will be back again soon.

Large suite with sea and pool view, staff as always superb, some new faces mixed with old favourites. Food very good choice and of course it was choc and wine week..Courtesy bus makes it easier to get down town but it is nice walk.Very profesional staff but with friendly and homely touch.

A well placed hotel in an area we love.Everything about the hotel complex is perfect for us. The staff throughout the hotel help to make our holiday very special, particularly the reception staff. We noticed a change in the bar area, the Portofino seemed overstaffed some evenings, whilst the Oceano bar was understaffed, an example of this was the evening of Sunday 4th Feb, but thankfully the staff members manning the Oceano are experienced and efficient. The gardens and the pool areas are as well kept as always. Please pass our thanks on to everyone . We look forward to our next visit on 7th January 2019.

Had another wonderful holiday in Madeira and as always an excellent stay at the Eden Mar Hotel. From the moment we arrive to the day we leave the staff are welcoming and friendly. The gardens are lovely a perfect place to relax in, Looking forward to our next visit.

Returned to the Vila Porto Mare complex this time in the Eden Mar. I cannot find any fault with this place . From walking in the front door to leaving we have no issues or faults whatsoever. Not that we look for them. Everything runs like clockwork. Everything is in good order ALL staff are polite effective and obliging. An upgrade to a suite greeted us and it was certainly a beautiful room with extensive balcony and plenty room with excellent facilities. We only used the hotel for breakfast and that was first class. The quality of food is complemented by the staff in a choice of two dining rooms. The fresh fruit makes it for me, so much better in freshness and flavour than we are used to. Omlettes cooked order, freshly fried eggs not stood for considerable time, same with other cooked items. Freshness maintained throughout. Good coffee, fizz if you want it. Nice bread with taste. Cakes also top class. The grounds and surroundings have a reputation and quite rightly. In tip top condition and pleasure to view the gardens. Must be some site in the right season. Indoor pools are ideal at this time of year and are another feather in the Porto Mare cap. Happy hour was very busy as it a cracking deal in such a high quality hotel. The prices are still below what one would expect for a hotel of such standing at other times. Entertainment is not my cup of tea but always had a good attendance and response. Housekeeping is also of the highest standards. How this place is not five star I do not know. It deserves to be in my eyes. Thank you to all staff who this place the great holiday retreat it is.

We had a terrific suite overlooking the pools with a great sea view. We could sunbathe on the balcony. We were there in December so needed some heating in the evenings. There were no instructions on how to set the air conditioning/heating, so we had to phone reception but the man they sent to our room didn't know how to set up the panel. The buffet food in the Atlantida restaurant was first class. The breakfasts were really good - I had an omelette cooked to order each morning. There was a good choice for each course in the evenings. We booked B&B but bought tickets from reception for 5 evening meals. The wine was reasonably priced, but the wine list didn't mention that you could have a half litre carafe. We have been to this hotel 6 times because it is so good. The gardens are amazing and really well maintained. They are worth a visit.on there own. Funchal town centre is easy to get to by courtesy coach or by local bus - there is a bus stop just outside of the hotel. We will be back again this year.

My wife and I have just enjoyed our third visit to this delightful location. The staff are the probably the best we have ever encountered in many years of holidaying in Europe. The four restaurants on site offer such a wide range of cuisine that practically all tastes are catered for. We usually stay in a junior suite facing west on one of the upper floors which allows us to enjoy some absolutely stunning sunsets over the sea. Overall a truly delightful experience.

We have been returning to this hotel for a number of years now. The main reasons are the wonderful staff so welcoming, the location just outside the main hustle and bustle, overlooking the sea, quite and gorgeous gardens plus pools. All the rooms have small kitchens, which although I don’t want to do much cooking on holiday is useful for the odd salad sandwich or hot drinks plus a good size fridge. There are activities in the day which we don’t use and entertainment, fairly varied in the evening. Something for most tastes. 4 restaurants of which we like the Med and Il Basilica. What else, oh yes easy parking for a hire car and a bus stop outside Porto Mare entrance for into town at night or to get round the island. We’ve stayed in the superior studios, junior suites and suite and they are all a good size and comfortable beds. For us either a west facing for the lovely sunset and afternoon sun.
