Great position for the train station and an easy walk into Lyon's shopping streets, then on into the 'old town' and the two magnificent rivers. The hotel is in a wonderful old building but the roads and needs of a modern city have grown up around it making it stand out less than it once would have, Not a problem if you wish to access the station, the shops and the sites. Our room was spacious enough and we had an enjoyable breakfast in an impressive old dining room.
We had a stay on the way to our vacation near the spanish border. The hotel is really nice, the rooms are excellent and the staff is really competent. The hotel is close to the main station, parking places arraund the hotel are given. It is jaust a shotrt way to Lyon center.
we found the staff very helpful and friendly. the rooms were a good size, beds very comfortable, very clean. Bar staff very pleasant. enjoyed our overnight stay and would certainly stay again if in the area
This was a nice hotel with nice staff. Parking is available in a garage and we had a rental car so we did use it. The brunch is predictably expensive so we wen to the "Paul" over in the train station. The caveat is that this is right next to the big train station. It's actually just south of it so, you have to use the station if you are on foot to get up and over. The hotel does look like in the pictures with a charming classic architecture, but it's actually walled in by the station and highway overpasses. It's not at all picturesque. It seemed that way from the online photos, but just be aware that this is not true!! Otherwise, by North American standards, it's somewhat reasonably priced. I shared the room with 2 friends. So, that helps too. The coffee is curiously in the form of the Nescafe capsules. The staff was super friendly and will give you more capsules if you run out. There was a mini fridge with small bottles of water and such that were included in the price. It's great if you fly and and take the train to town... or you are otherwise traveling by train. It's not so great if one of your friends is well aged and you have a rental car (because we were traveling about to visit friends). It's a lot of walking to get away from the concrete waste land and it can be a slight chore to get your car in and out of the garage (24 euros a day I think?). My rating is relative to the approximate price point of course.
A beautiful hotel with very helpful, welcoming staff. Well located (especially for the train station) with all the sites within easy walking distance. The room was elegant, very clean, renovated and well furnished. Large, comfortable double bed. Good service. Not too much choice in the restaurant but reasonable, good food. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff.
Rooms are old and in poor condition. My bathroom was full of broken floor tiles and the wook around the sink was all rotten. Bathrooms are equipped with a dispenser for hair and shower gel instead of small bottles. Remember taking with you a pair of slippers in order to avoid walking on the dirty carpet, as no slippers can be found in the rooms. Definitely not worth its four stars.
The hotel is in an excellent location for transportation, with a train station, tram and Metro nearby. The rooms were comfortable and the hotel still maintains the charm of the historic building---a hotel for more than a century. The staff also gave good advice on nearby restaurants and how to get around. There was some miscommunication about their breakfast offering, which was not cheap.
We spent four nights here and enjoyed our stay immensely. First, it's a beautiful hotel that was built in the early 1900's and it reflects the beautiful architecture of that period. Our room was huge; large enough for two twin beds, two comfortable cushioned chairs, a small coffee table, a desk, a dresser, a small fridge, two bedside tables, and still plenty of room to walk around. It had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The room was clean and well-maintained.The location is excellent; it's about a 2-minute walk to the train, Metro, TGV, and tramway station. Interestingly, even though our room looked at over the railroad tracks, we couldn't hear the trains coming and going. Two things to be aware of; I found the beds to be too hard for a stay much longer than four days and be careful of the slippery bathtub surface. There is a nice fitness center with a couple treadmills, a rowing machine, a weight machine, some light free weights, a yoga ball, and some yoga mats. And there are a couple big screen TV's to keep you entertained while working out.
Stayed here just overnight but pretty impressive all round hotel.Located right beside the train station, very acceptable rate and value ! Lovely building with old character and great romm. Will definitely be back.
We were looking for a nice but not expensive hotel with parking for an overnight stay in Lyon, and this hotel managed to surpass our expectations. I was a trifle anxious about booking a hotel adjoining a railway station, but was very pleasantly surprised. Parking is found by following sat nav directions to the hotel - the secure garage entrance is immediately to the side of the hotel entrance, and access is gained via the intercom placed at the entrance. As it was, I couldn't seem to manage to get the intercom to work the first time - I can only assume user error as it worked perfectly on all subsequent occasions - but rang the hotel intercom (at the entrance to the hotel) and the concierge immediately descended to assist me. The building is quite beautifully decorated on the inside, and we stayed in a privilege room which was spacious and had clean modern-retro styling. The bathroom is compact, but the shower was high powered and very good. Be aware you may need to take the hairdryer out of the bathroom and use in the main room - the one supplied with our room wasn't compatible with the shaver socket in the bathroom. A small selection of basic toiletries are supplied. We appreciated the "free soft drinks" from the mini-bar which may have been a feature of the room - I like to have the choice between mineral water and tap water when I am somewhere unfamiliar. Breakfast was a good buffet breakfast - not perfection (I'm picky about fresh orange juice ) - but considerably better than I've had elsewhere, with tasty bread, pastries and fresh fruit available, and a "boil your own egg" machine I haven't seen elsewhere. There were hot options, but having indulged in Lyonnaise cuisine the night before these were left untried. We found the location to be very good - well placed for the metro, the main shopping streets, and although a little further of a walk to the Old Town still perfectly manageable. There was one note of concern at check in - as the receptionist phoned to check our room was ready she was informed that the previous occupant had smoked in the room. The hotel was fully booked and therefore we couldn't switch rooms, but the staff had done their best to clean and air the room to remove the smoke. I thought the receptionist handled the situation for us with great tact and understanding. There was very little that they could do, but what they could do, they did, which was appreciated. We did have to leave the room windows open for a few hours, but eventually the smoke dissipated, and on return to the room in the evening I didn't notice it - patience rewarded. Overall we found the staff helpful, and the hotel a pleasant and convenient place to stay. We would certainly recommend it.
