Hôtel Victoria Lyon Perrache Confluence

I booked this hotel because I came to an EURO 2016 game. The price was extremely high for what they offer, but these were all prices in Lyon during that period. But, it is important to mention that a similar hotel in Paris was at 65% of its price. Other things... 2 subway station from Bellecour, the smallest bathroom I've ever seen... but, in the end... clean. But tiny. Extremelly tiny :-)

Although our double room was quite small, it was newly refurbished and very clean. It also had a nice small balcony. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location, about one block from Gare Perrache, was a big plus for us. The Lyon public transportation system is excellent, and we had easy access to the trams as well as the Metro/subway from Perrache.

We were traveling and needed a quick, budget friendly room for one night in Lyon. We arrived late in the evening but, the staff was very welcoming. Quickly checked in as he cited things to do if we had the time. Those of you that are not entirely used to intercity European budget hotels may find that the bathroom to be a bit cozy as well as the room. I would love to return to this lovely hotel in the future.

The good things I can say about this hotel were that it was inexpensive, the hotel staff were extremely helpful and knowledgeable, and spoke reasonable English, and the rooms were clean and in decent repair. The location is right on the metro, but a little dodgy - if heading towards Bellecour, be sure to walk through Perrache Station to Place Carnot rather than through the warren of homeless-tent-filled filthy tunnels heading North along the Rhone from the hotel. The bathrooms were a joke, by American standards. Our group stayed in three different rooms, all of which had a miniscule combined toilet-sink-shower, with the toilet inside the shower. If you are XL or larger, you will not be able to fit your hips on the toilet in these rooms. (For comparison, most airplane toilets are significantly more comfortable and usable than these toilets.) The lighting in the rooms was very limited, and the walls were all very dark, so the overall effect was a bit like a cave. Two of the three rooms were decorated with blatantly racist art. The mattresses were rock-hard, almost like a plain box-spring in the USA. I've slept on more comfortable camp beds. The elevator was just barely large enough to hold one person and three suitcases; a second person would not fit. On the other hand, with a 6-story walkup for some rooms, it was much better than no elevator at all.
