This weekend I had a business trip to Lusaka and stayed at the Intercontinental hotel. This is my 5th visit to Lusaka and 3rd stay at the Intercontinental. I have to stay say this has been my best experience at the hotel in all my visits in the last 7 years. Staff are friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean but bathrooms could do with a serious upgrade. Luke warm water - weird shower heads which regardless of how you try to adjust still 'shoots' inconsistently. There is no ventilation (extractor fan) in the bathroom. The telephone didn't work in my room - had to go downstairs for any requests/queries. My colleague's room was only available after 8pm so that was a bit inconvenient.
I had the pleasure of staying here in September 2017 and it was easily one of the best hotels I've been too. When they pick you up from the airport there are cold bottles of water waiting and Wi-Fi. At the hotel a fruity drink waited for check in. Rooms were very nice. The breakfast was amazing, and in fact was possibly the best hotel breakfast anywhere.
Issues were: 1. Check I took ages 2. no water in the bathroom ie could not flush loo, have a shower, brush teeth. Response - a bucket of water! No move to another room, no discount when I came to leave. 3. ordering meals. Got one. Halfway through eating that the second meal arrived. Two of us finished and then went chasing the third meal which arrived another 15 minutes later Not a great experience
This hotel has average size rooms with ok beds (a little small) The bathroom was very out dated and worn out. They are busy renovating. Swimming pool area is nice! We had breakfast in the room which was way cheaper than the buffet. Staff is friendly. We had dinner in the restaurant, which took ages. And we ended up with half the dishes we ordered. (They forgot many ingredients).
I stayed at this hotel for one night and the room was great. Though I hear vehicle sounds outside a couple of times during the night, I had a nice slip. Probably, the rooms on the other side would be better than the rooms on the front side.
Sometimes you can feel that large chain hotels lack the personal touch. This certainly isn't true at the InterContinental Lusaka. Staff went out of their way to make me feel welcome and to ensure that I was comfortable. The room was small but well appointed with all the necessary bits and pieces a business tarveler needs. The shower was adequate, though the pressure could have been stronger. The restaurant was superb - an excellent brai with top rate meats on offer. I had breakfast in the executive lounge. This was fine, though not as extensive as I have enjoyed in other InterContinentals.
Staff go a long way in making your visit comfortable... clean pool, nice gym, sauna (both wet and dry). Buffet lunch is good with enough varieties of food for different tastes. Location is convenient, closer to business places and shopping malls/restaurants
Clean and basic rooms but a good standard for Africa. Excellent food choice to cater for all tastes. Unfortunately you have to share the small outdoor pool with paying local people, so no room to swim or any peace when there are children's parties going on! Forget earning any IHG points, they never appear in your account, even when promised.
Our KQ flight to NBO was canceled so KQ put passengers here. Rooms were ready on arrival. Upgraded to club floor because of IHG status. Room was clean/modern and WiFi was fast. Bathroom is very small. Couldn’t get the airco to work (didn’t bother complaining as it was late) so slept with windows open. Restaurant dinner buffet was kept open late due to our flight—just average hotel food. Breakfast part buffet/a la carte was good. The next day the front desk was helpful locating a doctor as one of us wasn’t feeling well—although he showed up 4 hours later than agreed upon but not the hotel’s fault. I’ve stayed in many hotels like this across Africa. Standard upmarket business hotel. Nice neighborhood.
Average and expensive but still reasonable for African standards (hotels are very expensive). Lack of cleanness. Situated in quiet and safe area. Nice staff. Poor furniture. Good wifi. Ironing facilities on request. There is a pull area. Fine breakfast.
