We enjoyed our stay here, tucked away from the road and the town. The restaurant was closed for the winter but there is a really excellent alternative a few hundred metres away. Our room had a lovely view over the garden and hills beyond. Breakfast was good, the common areas pleasant and the staff delightful. If you want something away from the bustle of Lucca, this is an excellent choice.
We stayed here a couple nights after leaving Florence so we could explore the lovely cities of Lucca and Pisa. Our room was country style and very warm and welcoming, and the staff was also very welcoming and helpful thourhgout our stay. The location is very quite and peaceful which was exactly what we needed after a couple days in Rome and Florence. It is a bit hard to find as it’s not in the main portion of Lucca and has quite the fun road getting to the property, but it is well worth it. The reasturant on site is also AMAZING! My husband was in love with the octopus dish he had. This was probably one of our favorite hotels we stayed at during our week tour of Tuscany.
I took a week here to tour Tuscany with my 85 year old father. I chose it because it isn’t your usual boring hotel but rather set in the most beautiful gardens with a quirkiness all of its own. The 2 owners and a few staff work very hard to make this place and it’s clear they have ambitions .. I understand they will be adding more rooms, a larger kitchen this winter and an all weather conservatory and I wish them well with that. They deserve to make a great success of this place as it’s in a beautiful breathtaking location. The pool looked very nice and clean but in October even at 24 and sunny it was too cold to enter except for the very hardy. The birdsong in the garden was lovely. The rooms are clean and rural Tuscan simplicity. I thought the bed was fantastic as I love a very firm mattress and the linens were crisp and high quality. The rooms were kept very clean. The buffet breakfast was plentiful and of good quality. Our plan menu dinners were also of good quality. I would make only a few observations to achieve an even higher rating. They could do with a couple more staff so they can focus even on more on the guests and serve more than snack lunches. When they add more rooms they will need to do this and they could benefit from checking some of their electrics. Providing bathrobes regardless of room price/class would also be more appropriate for the ambiance of stars they deserve to have. I also hope in the rebuilding works the kittens living in the grounds will be looked after! But the views of mountains, the peace and quiet, the olive groves and their wonderful property make this a very special place. I wish them much success and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it for couples wanting a romantic place to unwind.
We stayed only one night but wish we had stayed longer. Francesco and his entire staff are great and the breakfast (included with room) was very nice. They also have bikes for rent and the easy bike ride to Luca was only 20 minutes. Our dinner the night before was very well prepared and the service was excellent. Our corner room # 113 was spacious, clean and very comfortable.
Thank heavens for good GPS in the car and I had read a review about not missing a turn it could be difficult to find. Up on our arrival the grounds are amazing. The hotel is more of a B & B. The lobby is on the 2nd floor and they did not offer ANY help to get our bags. We were tired from our day otherwise i would have asked for a change in room. I would make sure that you are not in the room right off the lobby. I really don't have any complaints, the hotel was lovely. Staff was --eh, not overly friendly. Breakfast was only ok.
We stayed for a few nights with a small group and were lucky enough to be escorted to this Villa. With only a short drive to the gorgeous walled town of Lucca, the villa is perfectly situated for relaxing, swimming and dining inside and out. Our host was gracious and the staff truly warm and welcoming. Whoever did the interior design and room fit out deserves a medal as they were charming. You need a car! This is not located on a main road & you would miss this great place if you didn’t plan it. Book ahead
From arrival to departure we had a wonderful stay! The room was comfortable, clean and great! The grounds are lovely and peaceful. The staff is attentive and offered great service in all areas! Breakfast is a treat and a dinner in the restaurant is a must...fabulous tasty food served by knowledgeable and friendly people! We plan to return for another visit when we can. We happily recommend a stay in the villa!
What a beautiful little spot. The hotel sits on well landscaped grounds. The rooms are quaint, the staff is friendly. There is a bar and a delicious restaurant in the hotel plus a marvelous place less than a mile down the road. Very relaxing atmosphere yet only minutes from downtown Lucca.
Fresh from 4 days in Florence oh what a difference. I don't agree this is hard to find at all - just follow their instructions which are immaculate. See my separate review of their restaurant-it was brilliant in every way. The restaurant La Cecca is only a few yards down the road so you have two wonderful meals in store during your stay. I you want to know what La Cecca means in English you will have to eat at the restaurant and then they tease you with the story during the evening!! The rooms and facilities are first class. The air con WORKS. The shower was huge and we were sure we used more than a baths worth of water every time-luxury!! Would we stay here again? Tomorrow at the drop of a hat. The drive into Lucca is simple and parking is equally simple. Then you return to this oasis after your time exploring and you are soooo glad you did. Your choice of holiday ends here!!
Approach carefully and follow the signs for La Cecca as there is not one for the hotel - we had an unfortunate detour in the hire car up the hill by going straight ahead. Fortunately we could recover in the relaxing base that is Alberto Villa Marta with drinks and nibbles round the lovely pool, soaking up the view. Dinner was a very pleasant experience on the terrace at the back and when the restaurant wasn't open on the Sunday, La Cecca , a five minute walk away was also a pleasant experience. Ensure you visit Lucca which has much of interest. Take a bike round the city walls and enjoy
