Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites2.5 out of 5.0

The hotel has been completely remodeled in the last several months. The new Holiday Inn Express decor. I did miss the original fireplace in the lobby. Seems to fit WV atmosphere. The GM was very friendly and helpful and greeted me at breakfast. The hotel is clean, dining area clean and grounds clean. Lowes, Walmart, and several other stores in walking distance. Bob Evans, steakhouse, Mexican, Captain D's, and several other restaurants also walkable distance. And a movie cinema outback. GM made himself available for questions or resolving any issues of which there were none.
Issues: no TV guide, internet constantly disconnects and is very slow when connected, telephone system is old. The positives: room is nice, breakfast ok. Location is good, several restaurants nearby. Hotel is overpriced for the condition it is in.
On a recent business trip I stayed at this location. The staff was wonderful and went "overboard" into helping us with our stay. I will be staying here again on my next trips to the area. The breakfast bar was really good as well.
Stayed here for 5 days while visiting family. Our suite was very clean and always stocked with necessities, as was lobby and dining area. Hotel grounds very well manicured. I'm not a breakfast eater, but there was always coffee on hand. Everyone from the GM to housekeeping-maintenance-food service-desk clerks went out of their way to ensure our stay was enjoyable. I will definitely stay here again when visiting Logan.
Nice hotel, with easy access to one of the trail systems for ATVs, Bear Wallow. Decent driving distance to Rockhouse, Buffalo Mountain, and Devil Anse. Good pizza joint right next door for carry out or delivery (better and cheaper than their buffet.) Movie theater right behind it. Wal-Mart, gas station, a few other stores and restaurants right there, too. Clean rooms. Pool and hot tub. Decent breakfast. Staff not friendly, but not rude, just don't seem to like their job.
I had a last minute stay here for a funeral and the room was nice, but there was a major ant issue. They were all over in the bathroom. I wasn't at the hotel long enough to speak to anyone about it, but I did call and let them know. They says they'd get back to me, but I never heard back from anyone.
This hotel sits way up on a hill so it's kinda easy to miss. But there are several food choices right out the front door - for such a small town. The staff is friendly. The room is comfortable and clean. The breakfast area is the same. They seem to keep up with keeping breakfast fresh and stocked. I think this is one of the better Holiday Inn Expresses I've seen. And I see a lot. I did have to ignore a bit of noise from other guests on the floor each night.
We stayed here to ride our SxS on the Hatfield and McCoy trails. This hotel is super clean, the front desk staff were as nice as possible. The free breakfast was very fresh and great, the older guy taking care of it shows a ton of pride in his work. So nice to see now days. I stay at these hotel about 8 time a year, this is tops.
I choose the Holiday Inn Express over the Candlewood Suites in Logan because it had been newly renovated. My friends stayed at the Candlewood Suites. So I can give you the comparison I wished I had read before I booked the Holiday Inn. We got a decent free breakfast. They did not. They got a bigger room with a kitchen, we did not. Though the Holiday Inn was newly renovated (for the most part, anyway), it was still falling apart. We had to move rooms because the bathroom door was off the hinges. The toilet seats were old and had cigarette burns in them. There was hair in the shower (not ours!) and the old mini fridge was propped up with some pieces of drywall they must've used for the renovation. Very sloppy work to say the least. That drywall was not too thick either, because you can hear through the walls very easily. Very disturbing. The Candlewood Suites was very well done, and looked newly renovated, though I don't know when. My friends were very happy that they stayed there. WARNING: the address on the email confirmation from the Holiday Inn Express has the incorrect spelling of the street (Georlge Costas vs. George Kostas, so GPS won't be able to find it. I did point this out to the night desk woman, not sure if its been fixed or not. Overall, if you have to choose, pick the Candlewood Suites. Its cheaper so you can spring for a breakfast somewhere!
We just planned a trip to see the New River Gorge and then further south to see some of that Hatfield/McCoy country and trails. The beds were very comfortable, room was quiet. Got a great nights sleep and the breakfast at the hotel was accommodating to everyone. Not just a continental breakfast!
