Really not great.... read on....

I just stayed at this cottage and although there are some goods points there are plenty of not great ones. 1. We arrived on a night where Liverpool was playing in an international game. Everyone was on the street and you could tell that it wasn’t a great neighborhood. Honestly I am no snob. 2. A Lot of the furniture is literally falling to pieces, I opened the ikea type wardrobe in the main bedroom and it literally fell in half, it was not even still bolted together. Leather sofa coming apart. The fuse box / alarm box doors are hanging off. The mattress was so cheap I could feel the springs and had to put a quilt underneath to sleep. 3. There was a note in the house to guests saying not to forget to leave the parking permits when you leave. They clearly hadn’t been left by the last people or maybe many guests before. There where signs on the road saying parking permits only so we didn’t know what to do. I rang hotels.com who promised to ring me back and never did! And I called the phone number that I assume was the owner as it was left on the notice board... didn’t answer any of my calls or messages. 4. The bin in the kitchen wasn’t emptied so it was full of old food trash 5. The tv didn’t work at all 6. I bumped into a group of girls staying at the sister cottage next door, they were very very unhappy also! On the plus side. it las quiet, the patio was ok (not very clean but ok). The bed linen was crisp and clean..... without this I might have left!!

Disappointing, uncomfortable stay

I stayed in the house with my family over the weekend. Great location if you are going to either football ground (Liverpool or Everton). House is situated on a very quiet street right at the end. The area is very run down with nothing much around it. Outside the property there was loads of litter and rubbish everywhere. Inside the house there were 3 bedrooms, kitchen/diner, lounge and one good size bathroom. There were two small double beds in two rooms and a single bed in other room. There was a sofa bed in lounge which was a very small double. All beds were extremely uncomfortable including sofa bed, all needed replacing as well passed used date. Lamps in double front room did not work. None of the beds were made up for are arrival on Friday evening, we found these in the washing machine still wet and had to dry them, which took a few hours, with very tired children waiting to go to bed. The bathroom had a good shower and was fairly clean, but was run down with broken floor near the bath and bath panel was broken and hanging off. Most of the floors around the property had gaps in or were broken. Parking along the street is permit parking and you can only park in front of property. I had to text the owner as permit was not available for us, to be told it was lost and they were awaiting new one and only to park in front of house, otherwise you would get a ticket! The owner however after being prompted said they would cover any parking charges. There was a small nice garden.

Most Forgettable Christmas at Curate Cottages

You would have thought "Nightmare on Elm Street" couldn't be worse or topped, but try "Calamitous Christmas at Curate Cottages". We booked the house as our ideal residence to spend Christmas in faraway Liverpool but you knew something wasn't quite right even before you even stepped into the accommodation. Dog poo right in front of the main door and lots more along the walkway. We spent half an hour to wash away the stubborn sights that you could tell had been there all week. The Cottage Guide promises 700 TV channel to choose from yet you couldn't even get a single channel of terrestrial television going. The lights were faulty and the house was dusty. Some utensils were not been washed. The free carpark labels were not available. When you seek help from the owner, you get a sweet reply for complaining: "Your service is not welcome again".

Good base for exploring Liverpool

Good house in a clean and relatively quiet area. Do beware that there is construction work opposite the cottage Mon-Fri and they do start at around 5am. Overall the cottage is really clean and functional. However the mattress was very thin and not that comfy (could feel every spring). Shame really, otherwise it would have been a 5 star stay. If I were to nicpick the TV was missing a stand and had no reception for channels. One of the wall sockets were broken. One of the paintings were not hung properly and left dangling in a overly long nail. I'd still recommend it though. Still a very good stay if you know what you're getting.
