In a super location but very underwhelming and lacks inspiration. The hotel is slow service, no atmosphere and very overpriced. The golf club has dreadful service. The bar or café area doesn’t open until 11 o’clock and offers no substitute. Alarmingly, the golf buggy charge is €58Per round of golf. Ridiculously priced. Whilst it has many things going for it, it is a place I will not return as there are far better places in Europe.
This hotel located outside of city center in Cascais. This is a golf resort, you can see the beautiful nature from your terrace. The hotel is a very huge building, every hall / room is enourmus in it. Our room was very big as well, which was OK, but the interior is a bit rigid and unfriendly. The bathroom lookes like in a hospital. The terrace is also too big, you are not able to use this size. The Oitavos has a shuttle bus service which is good, because the centre is 4km far from the hotel. The spa consist of one finnish sauna / one turkish bath / jacuzzi / swimming pool, if your room doesnot including the fee, it is not really worth it. The breakfast and the dinner in the hotel was excellent!
A very nice place outside the beautiful Cascais. We were really impressed by spacious rooms, and friendly staff. In particular Joao (the concierge) was very pleasant to deal with. Although staff is very attentive we were missing the 'warmth' of a nice holiday destination. This most likely is due to the architecture of the place. Everything seems oversized, whether it is the guest room corridors or the massive lobby/ breakfast & dining area in the ground floor. Somehow it feels more like a airport waiting hall than a holiday resort... I don't want to sound too negative since there are many positives about this place. Overall we were happy to be there, just the few bits and pieces which could be better.
We have stayed at the Oitavos every years for the past 6 years. The best breakfast anywhere and the rooms are both large and very comfortable, as well as having incredible views. We only wish there was a loyalty program.
We had high hopes for this hotel. Situated in a beautiful location, within easy reach of Cascais, the Oitavos has the potential to be so much more than it is. The design is modern yet the interior is vacuous. The swimming pool and bar area looks like a well maintained public lido. The views over the golf course and out to sea are lovely but these don’t make up for the poor aesthetic. The rooms are very large. This is the only positive. The bed is uncomfortable and the pillows are overly soft. In addition, basic amenities are not included. Once you’ve had your two coffee capsules (for your entire stay) you have to pay 2 euros for each additional capsule you desire. As the hotel claims to be 5*s you would at least expect to have free coffee and tea for the duration of your stay. Service is weak. Only a few staff are observant and helpful. At busy times, service is virtually non-existent. This was most notable at breakfast and lunch. We always ate out for dinner. We arrived on a Monday and were given vouchers for a welcome drink that could only be enjoyed Tuesday - Sunday at the hotel’s “other” restaurant (golf course club house). We were not informed that this welcome drink could only be acquired between the hours of 12 and 2pm! As a result, we didn’t get one! Overall, we were so disappointed that we left a day early despite having paid for the room! Overall, overpriced and overrated.
We stayed a few nights to relax and enjoy, but were disappointed. The hotel itself resembled a 70’s style conference only center, extremely wide corridors (three lanes for golf carts), rooms with blue concrete on the balcony. Restaurant so-so at best - we asked for Chef’s Table, but were declined for unspecified reasons. The highly acclaimed Japanese restaurant was OK, but the tasting menu comprised 4 small courses. Probably an excellent location if you spend your days on the golf course, but for other purposes, including fine dining, you are better off elsewhere.
Very nice hotel overall: big rooms, wonderful breakfast, great food, nice terrace with heated pool and view on the dunes and the ocean (ocean is 1 km away, but you can still see it from the hotel and from the rooms). The rooms are a little bit 'strange' in some ways, but very big and connecting rooms are available for families (we stayed with 5 in connecting rooms). Heated pool !! is nice when the weather is good but chilly. Also nice spa facilities available (25 euro per day per room to be paid to have spa access or included if you book a treatment) - in this way the spa was never crowded, and a great place to relax. Wonderful breakfast - just amazing, one of the best we had with lots of fresh cut fruit, eggs, crepes and waffles can be ordered, Nespresso coffee machine, etc. very high quality breakfast. Also the food at the restaurants for lunch (clubhouse) or dinner were very good and not extremely expensive for a 5 star hotel. There is also a sushi bar present. Drinks at the pool were rather expensive and not of very high quality (pineapple smoothie rather dull and small for 12 euro was overpriced). Overall a great experience, we would come back!
As a large family we had a really enjoyable 6 night stay. The hotel is something of a hybrid between a large resort and conference hotel. The bedrooms are really big, modern and most enjoy lovely sea views. The open plan aspect of bedroom and bathroom certainly didn’t bother us and added to the sense of space. Amenities are also very good with a large and well catered pool area. Breakfast was also a particular highlight for our kids who took full advantage of a top quality buffet. We didn’t dine at the hotel but you’re within a 15 min walk of some lovely seaside restaurants or a 10min cab ride to Guincho Beach. We also played golf on the excellent adjacent Oitavos Dunes course and were very well looked after by Joao, the caddy master. One small quibble was the charging for bike rental as given the location of the hotel, this should be offered as a service for guests.
5 day stay. Loved the rooms and view. Relaxed atmosphere. Found the staff friendly and good value for money. Unlike some reviews found the beds extremely comfortable and pillows also. The bathroom area is huge and yes there is a lot of glass (some not frosted) and floors slippy but the size of the rooms are remarkable. Perhaps there are some that don't wish a more open plan room but bearing in mind these rooms are over twice the size of a usual room with en suite bathroom I really am not sure what the issue is. The golf room in the lobby worked very well when playing golf and course was well looked after not very busy and twilight golf a bargain. Outside pool was warm and def would consider going back.
Unfortunately I was only here for 2 days. I had a great stay in this hotel. Very big (blue) rooms with great view on the oceaan. Lovely food and perfect service. Would have loved to stay here for a week! And what a fantastic view.
