Misleading and Disappointing Stay
We booked this hotel expecting a 4-star boutique property, but it was far from that. The 4-star rating isn’t displayed anywhere — only on booking sites — and the photos are heavily airbrushed, making the hotel look far nicer than it is. There’s no reception on the ground floor; you buzz an intercom and go to the 3rd floor to check in. The entrance is lined with curtains, and during the day the ground floor is part of a shoe store with two entrances, allowing the public to access the door to guest rooms — more like a motel. Only at night is access controlled by keycard.
The hotel and area feel rundown, with no parking or unloading zone. We had to stop at Praça da Figueira and roll our luggage over cobblestones. The elevator only goes to the 5th floor, but our room was on the 6th attic level, reachable only by spiral, narrow stairs. The room was tiny, dark, dated, and smelled of bleach. There was little natural light, a stiff mattress, and tap water served in a carafe.
The bathroom was large but the shower leaked. Breakfast was basic and repetitive. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the location is central, walkable, and full of restaurants and shops. However, on departure at 6 AM a thief stole our taxi driver’s phone — a reminder to stay alert.
Overall, misleading marketing, poor facilities, safety concerns, and many inconveniences made this a deeply disappointing stay. We would not return.
