If you’re seeking modern elegance, this place won’t be your cup of tea. However, if you’re in the mood for old-Hawai’i charm, this is the perfect spot for you. Nestled in a little neighborhood against the backdrop of gorgeous mountains, this hotel exudes a serene and peaceful ambiance. The only disturbances were the occasional crowing of roosters, the barking of a few dogs and on our final night, a disturbance at the homeless camp in the park directly next door that resulted in six police cars and and ambulance rolling in with lights & sirens blaring at 10pm. Other than the overflowing garbage cans in the parking areas, the lush, tropical grounds are meticulously maintained, creating a visually stunning setting. House keeping was excellent! They came daily and left clean towels. Be aware that due to the fridge being out, there is a lengthy detour making it quite a distance from the beach and any amenities. A rental car is highly recommended to explore the surrounding area. Despite its historical significance, this hotel is in dire need of an overhaul and modernization. The rooms and furnishings are outdated and have seen better days. The linens were the only clean and fresh element in the room, while everything else was covered in dirt, dust, and grime.

Check-in and check-out were smooth, the room was clean, parking was very easy, and I enjoyed the live music on Wednesday evening. The owner was kind and clearly well intentioned; however, when a guest declines food, that choice should be respected. “No thank you” means no. Some guests cannot tolerate dairy, and it was the only protein option offered. One area for improvement is fitness accommodation. There is no on-site gym, and the nearest option is about half a mile away for $25 per day. Even a simple pull-up bar on the property would benefit guests who need to maintain muscle mass to reduce sarcopenia for medical reasons. That said, the rooms are equipped with a fridge and microwave, making it easy to purchase and prepare one’s own food, and overall the stay was comfortable and well managed.
Walk a half mile from this property to see a beautiful sunset overlooking Ka Loko Iʻa Nui o ʻAlekoko (The Great Fishpond of ʻAlekoko / Menehune Fishpond).

We had a wonderful experience. The grounds around the Kauai Inn were kept immaculate, it was a very family friendly environment, and the staff was absolutely top notch best of the best. The manager went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our stay and time on the island. All of the staff was very friendly. I would definitely book again if planning another trip to Kauai.
