This has all the makings of a vacation nightmare and a condo con! The owner of this unit represents herself as a resort and a business. I usually assume that anyone going through Expedia is legit, but from the first instance, the way the unit is advertised, and the way she has chosen to set up her reservation system seems like there is an attempt to mislead and rip off travelers. I was able to cancel before actually showing up to the "resort", but I wish I had read the reviews before going through the chaos and hassle. If you want to stay here, just make sure you are aware of the shadiness surrounding this place. The last thing I want when going on vacation is to feel unsure or uneasy about where I'm staying. There are so many great condos and hotels on Kauai, why risk it?
This came up on a search for hotels when we were looking for a last-minute place to spend our last day on Kauai. The rate was good and photos showed a fabulous beachfront pool, which is really all we cared about for that day. We booked a non-refundable room, and then noticed the fees. On top of the room rate, we were charged a resort fee, a cleaning fee, and a 24-hour desk fee (these were all rolled into a single line item called "Taxes and Fees;" I called the website that issued my reservation to get the list of itemized fees). There is also a daily parking fee, but we weren't charged for parking because we didn't have a car. Even without the parking fee, our moderately priced hotel room ended up costing almost 3 times the posted room rate. The room was a privately-owned unit at Kauai Beach Resort in Lihue. It was small but comfortable, and there were snacks, cold drinks, tea, coffee and cocoa in the room. This was a Mountain View room overlooking the parking lot and the roof of a neighboring wing. There were beach toys provided on the small balcony. Bath linens were soft and plush but had an off odor; Aveda toiletries improved the experience. Bedding and beds were comfortable. Housekeeping is provided once per stay. Our check-in and check-out went smoothly and the front desk staff were very polite. The resort is a little tired on the exterior but interior common spaces have been updated and were warm and welcoming. The pool was really fun and we loved the waterslide. The pool and slide attendants were friendly and helpful. The location is convenient to the airport. Overall the quality of the resort and the room were acceptable, but the steep fees made it a poor value. I won't book through Gaia Gives again and would not recommend it to others.
I was so excited to stay at this hotel, I heard the pool was fantastic. However, from the moment of booking I was off to a bad start. This hotel charges OUTRAGEOUS fees, the fees were more than double the room-rate. I definitely did not mean to hit confirm, that was an accident after I saw the fees, but I hit confirm and it was downhill from there. Check-in- The hotel was pretty and looked very clean upon walk-in, but the loveliness was cancelled out by the down-right rude front desk/ check in attendant. She was not a nice person, very short with me, a little sarcastic even. I did not feel welcome and I found out there that the room I had booked was a "private owner" room, not the actual hotel room. The check in lady then treated me like a second or third class citizen and showed no genuine aloha. Pool was great, but super slow service and not enough umbrellas or shady areas or side tables next to beach chairs. The room: The room was okay, it was cute, small. It was relatively clean, but the toilet wasn't even flushed, I guess the cleaners forgot that part. Eww. As for comfort, the beds were TERRIBLE. I booked thinking I was getting a select comfort bed, but got a squeaky, hard, uncomfortable bed, which is important to me as I have a bad back. I will NEVER stay here again, just not worth the money paid at all. I could have stayed at a much much nicer resort for the total price paid and get better service, I really regret staying here. Lesson learned.
not sure about all the bad reviews. I spent 5 nights and loved every minute of it. The hotel is close to everything (it helps that Kauai is so small). The staff and everything about the place was perfect!
I always like to review honestly and fairly... I wanted to write this review because my husband and I were looking to book this for a 10 night stay. I found the hotel on VRBO. The listing was posted for $129 per night as this is "off season" for Hawaii. I looked at the beautiful pictures and decided to move forward with the reservation... I submitted all of my info as well as my payment waiting for owner confirmation. A few minutes later I received an email from the owner saying she received my request and adjusted the price. Upon review she had upped the price almost $700. With NO explanation. It almost feels like being taken advantage of for a last minute booking. After reading the reviews listed on TripAdvisor I'm Sooooo glad we didn't reserve this hotel. Make sure you do your research and know that you have options!!
Their rooms need an update but overall pretty clean. Remember to return the towel card even if you didn't borrow any towels, they will charge you! It's right on the beach, nice for walks and watching sunset. Room comes with a mini refrigerator, perfect for drinks and snacks.
We booked this hotel thru VRBO and owner thru Gokula Vani. She quoted us for $514 for 3 nights. She later charged us for $562 saying that it was a different room. We checked out on the third day and the resort had said that we're good to go. We found out later that she charged us another $62 for resort fees. We'll never book through VRBO again nor through Gokula Vani!!! She's a liar!
Just an FYI for those of you that decide to book with Gaia Gives Resorts, Please be very careful of what you are promised and what you actually get. My husband and I were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and decided to do so in Beautiful Hawaii. I spoke to a lady named Gokula Vani with GGR and she was delighted to help me make my arrangements. She told me that because of our celebration that she would let us have the ocean front honeymoon suite for the price of a regular room of $136 per night. I was so excited!! when we arrived at the Kauai Beach Resort it was lovely. Our room however was not as promised. We had an ocean side view and no where near a honeymoon suite. Gokula failed to let me know that their would be a cleaning charge everyday of $15 for towel change or $30 for full service. I called Gokula up and she agreed to come to the room to see it for herself and acted very surprised that the room was not the one promised. She told us that the owner of the room had misinformed her of the difference. I felt bad and just excused it as she was very apologetic and offered us a refund of $150 and some snacks for our trouble. Upon checking out we spoke with the front desk attendant about what happened. Boy were we surprised to find out that Gokula was the owner and that she had charged us $285 per night!! I will never book with GGR again as my husband and I were lied to. Shame on you Gokula Vani!!!
