My partner booked us in for one night due to an event we had at a nightclub. When walking in, it's fine. The ceiling is beautiful & you really feel it's Victorian character. The building itself is 250 years old!! Although, when walking through the dull, endless corridors to our room, it looked more & more run down the further we dwelled into the depths of it. Carpet worn & wallpaper tired. Weird & old, dusty pictures on walls from I presume the 80's if not earlier. Just taking down the old pictures & giving the walls a coat would make such a big difference & not cost a lot so why is it not being done. Don't get it! I thought perhaps they don't want to modernise too much, to keep within the character of the building. However when we got to the room we realised it was obviously neglect. We had a sea view room. Great. But had to look at it through old curtains, that were hanging down with hooks missing. I managed to reconnect them myself, Otherwise the sun would be beaming in early hours. Furniture old, dated, carpet worn, damp in bathroom that had been painted over, no toiletries, Bedding didn't fit the bed, chunky television was clearly from the early 90's surprised it had a remote, must have been at-least over 20 years old & only had 4 channels. My partner climbed in the shower, for us to then realise we had no towels. No phone to reception so had to run all the way back down & through the building to get some. We slept terribly on the hard bed & paper thin pillows, duvet cover coming off with being too big. We were both still wide awake at 7am & the room was depressing us so we checked out & left. As soon as we walked out the door, the sun & fresh air hit our faces & our misery instantly lifted. As I have skimmed through some previous reviews, it appears we had one of the best rooms, so I'm quite grateful. We weren't expecting 5* for the price. The furniture, out datedness, old facilities & worn carpets/walls you can accept, but there is absolutely no excuse for dirt & dust in a hotel. It just isn't fair on unsuspecting guests who aren't expecting luxury for what they've paid anyway, just the minimum of clean & basic, to then see that they have a much less standard than clean & basic. It really is just an unloved, empty shell remaining of what it once was. Shame really.
Just returned from a 1 night stay b&b and evening meal with national coach holidays. All the coach were told rooms would not be ready till 3 o clock so being only 12-50pm when we arrived told we could put case in ballroom. On entering ball room you were knocked over by the fusty smell of dampness. On our return at 4-20pm went our room which was supposed to be a doulble room it had a three quarter bed which I admit was clean but I was expecting two singles or a double bed. The room had one very antique wardrobe one chair and the television was something you used to watch Steptoe and son on it. The remote control which had no back and only one battery in and on looking at tv there were no buttons to either change the station or turn volume up or down they had been discard leaving you with one station and the on off button which worked. The window hinge was hanging off when you opened it which was not safe if you had children staying in that room. Moving to the bathroom which looked presentable and recently refurbished but it soon went down hill if you flushed the toilet you had to wait at least fifteen minutes to reflush as the water was jousting running straight through the toilet. I took a shower and it started ro fill up as the water flow from the shower was running faster than the water draining away I had to turn the shower off at least twice then on again allowing the water to escape. Meals the evening meal of roast beef and Yorkshire pudding sounded appetising but the beef was like chewing the sole of a shoe and vegetables were like warm at best. After this was not looking forward to my breakfast because also the dinning room was only half open staff blocked it of with overturned chairs and this was the case of breakfast you had to vittually que and grab an empty table when it became available. The decor in this room was really old fashioned dingy and had cracks all over the ceiling you were half expecting a lump of plaster falling into your lap.I reported my concern regarding our room to reception but was met with a shrug of the shoulders and a simple sorry stating yes you have a double room. To end I hope Britannia who own the hotel reads this and my suggestion is yes it has been a grand hotel in the past but now is the time to knock it down and start from scratch.
Stayed for 3 nights. First room had water pouring out of the light. Filthy everywhere. Telly didn't work apparently because of the weather. Stay quite regularly but this was the last time. Everyone was complaining how bad it was, one lady was so shocked we had been before and had returned!!!! Feel so sore for the staff working here!!!!! They must get so much grief. Either knock it down or spend some much needed money on it. Could be a gold mine as it's in a fabulous location. On and maybe pay a window cleaner every now and again!!!!
terrible hotel booked in went to room used toilet paper on toilet and bedroom floor,sweet wrappers on floor,wallpaper hanging down from ceiling,and off walls waste paper bin not empty,dirty handmarks,over the mirror and tv,shower not in use,no heating,when i complained they did not offer another room there was other guests complaining has well we checked in at 3pm told to come back at 5pm room still not cleaned was told then the cleaning staff had gone home discusting would strongly avise agains going
Don't book here !! Disgusting hotel, dirty smells of drains, roof leaking floors wet rooms dirty, hairs in bath before we used it appalling all round !! No stars in this hotel...One room given to group had pizza boxes and full ashtray oh and used bed !! AVOID it's not worth a cent to stay here.. should be closed down to be honest. Rule BRITTANIA HOTELS !! NOT !! Lovely stairs and ceilings !!
We stayed here for 2 nights in July and paid £150 bed and breakfast plus an extra £6 for the car park. The receptionist was very dour and looked like she wanted to be somewhere else. Our room was tiny and had frosted glass windows which looked out on to the courtyard. When we opened the window seagulls and pigeons tried to get in. We had one bath towel and one hand towel between the 2 of us. The shower screen only pulled half way across and there was no window. We spent a very uncomfortable night as the room was boiling hot and we could not open the window because of the bird issue. Breakfast was buffet style and was edible but very greasy. After breakfast we asked for a move and were charged an extra £10 as the new room was a sea view! This room was marginally better but desperately in need of a refurb, as is the whole hotel. The entertainment finishes at 9pm so was finished before we arrived. When checking out on the last morning, my husband realised he had left 2 brand new tops in the wardrobe of the first room. The reception staff were entirely uninterested and we ended up seeking out a member of housekeeping staff ourselves who helped us. The room had been re-let with his tops still in the wardrobe! I chose this hotel because of its age and hoped it would be charming. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. The irony is for an extra £40 we could have stayed at the Hilton. Lesson learned. We will never return. Do something Britannia before you end up being shut down....
Me and my girlfriend arrived here after a four hour drive from Birmingham ( due to heavy traffic ) As soon as we walked through the doors the decor was old and very outdated but we both thought the same .... its Blackpool !!!! and the room was £40 so we wasn't expecting 5* accommodation. Moving on we got our room key and carried on up the stairs. When we got to the room i was furious with what i saw. - 2 used coffee mugs with mold growing in the one - Stains on the bed sheets ( looks like blood ) - Dust everywhere - Wallpaper hanging off the walls. This was a real disappointment to us , the decor was acceptable in light terms but the sheer hygiene of the room was 1/10. I went straight down to reception and explained my problems with the room , they explained the room had not been * serviced * and i would be moved to a new room ( no apology was given ) The new room was an executive suite which was cleaner and bigger but this should have never happened. I have been to Blackpool every year for the last five years in different hotels and this has been the worst hence the rating terrible. My advise do not stay here.
This was the worst experience ever they should close down,it smells like dead rats.I have some pictures where there was damp in the room with very little space, door hand was broken and you can`t even open the window it was sealed off. Still angry will speak to the head office that run this place, DO NOT BOOK this place its,they don`t even deserve a single start. Staff are not helpful at all very bad customer communications and service, the lady on the reception was very rood and arrogant they deserve to be shut down. Receptionists don`t deserve any respect what so ever, next time i travel to Blackpool wont even look at Grand Metropole Hotel full of s**t
This is the worst hotel I've ever been to the room smell like cabbage and like something died in there they gave no towels the shower curtain only covered half the shower there was mold in the bathroom everywhere they gave one bar of soap the size of a 50p coin the supper they gave you was like dog food it was a terrible stay
I genuinely don't understand how this "hotel" is still open. Probably they never had a health inspection. On the way to the room you can already see it all: dirty carpets stained, wallpaper falling off from the roof, a roll up cigarette that's been on the floor for the whole stay. The carpet in the room was covered in hair of all kind and no towels were given. The window was covered in bird s**t and the view wasn't the most charming. The best was definitely the restaurant where just above the (awful) breakfast food there was a fan covered in dust and dirt. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
