Sonesta Posadas del Inca Lake Titicaca - Puno3.5 out of 5.0

I stayed for 2 nights in this beautiful hotel. My room has an awesome view of Lake Titicaca and there is a private jetty near the hotel to get to the boats for exploring the lake. The staffs were very courteous and friendly and checking in/out was fast and simple. The hotel receptionist was kind enough to provide assistance when I encountered altitude sickness - by placing me in a room for "an oxygen therapy" discreetly. Thanks so much for that! The restaurant serves great breakfast buffet and you can enjoy the view of the lake from there too. Highly recommended hotel whenever you are in Puno :)
Got this hotel as part of a package tour. The rest of the hotels were great, but this one wasn’t up to standard. I don’t understand the TripAdvisor ratings. The rooms are quite old and dated. The official TripAdvisor description is misleading: “The hotel has a beautiful view of Lake Titicaca from the guest rooms ...”. Please note that not all guest rooms face the lake. Some are “Mountain View” rooms that look across buildings to an unattractive hill. The official hotel website says “First class service, but it was the worst of our 3/4 star hotels in our 3 weeks in South America. Their website says “queen beds” The beds are comfortable, but double bed size not queen or king size. There were two in our room. The restaurant was very slow for both breakfast and dinner; again the slowest of all we experienced in South America. Some of the staff were good, others not so. For example both the hot or cold milk had run out at breakfast, so I told the staff, but 10 minutes later there was still no milk. I’m allergic to gluten and there was no GF bread (anytime). Most of the hot food had run out, so I could only have cornflakes and fruit. The outlook is nice but it’s not close to town, whether you like that or not - a taxi is about 8$oles. It’s not walking distance to anything, but that’s a personal choice. On the plus side the lake views are lovely. Also, one of the staff was able to provide a hot water bottle as a good makeshift replacement for a ‘hot pack’ for my wife’s cramping muscles. The hotel is clean and seemed safe and the available facilities were fine.
We stayed one night and enjoyed the lake view, the two alpacas by our window, and the room was clean, bathroom was spacious. The staff was friendly, the breakfast buffet had the essentials. The taxi ride to the town center was only eight Sols, less than three dollars. There is a pier that we took a boat to tour the lake and the floating islands
The hotel is on Lake Titicaca and therefore offers a beautiful view. The rooms are decent. While it is not as lovely as it's sister hotel in Urumbamba, it is more than adequate. They offer a room dedicated to providing oxygen. which could be a big necessity since it is at over 12,000 feet. The breakfast buffet was adequate. Overall,, a decent hotel in a nice setting.
We stayed here as part of a tour package and it was ideally located for our excursion on Lake Titicaca, but some distance away from the town of Puno, which was probably a good thing in view of the negative comments made by our tour representative. The hotel itself was good in terms of the facilities, décor and cleanliness, but was let down by the size of the dining room, which was totally inadequate for the number of guests staying who would therefore naturally partake in the included breakfast. For dinner, the food was excellent, but strongly recommend booking a table on arrival to be able to eat at a convenient time. Although the bar area was never busy during our stay, service for drinks was very slow. We were also woken during the night by an alarm from elsewhere in the hotel, but when we contacted reception, they were unaware of it.
Such a big letdown. Especially after staying in wonderful hotels in Urubamba and Cusco. Expected more from a Sonesta property. We checked in today for a two night stay and can’t wait to check out. Hotel is in serious need of an update. Our triple room is almost completely taken over by three queen-size beds with barely any room to move around. Seems like a room was initially set up to be a single bed room but in a effort to squeeze more profits, they filled it with three queen beds. There is no table or chairs. There’s no character or any decorations in the room. Feels like we are staying in a motel room. We asked them to move us to a different room with more space. At first we were told that the hotel was fully booked (btw complete lie as a quick search on their website showed that all types of rooms were available during our stay). On our next attempt they offered to move us to another triple for extra $40/night albeit with a view. Although it doesn’t sound a lot, it is for a Puno hotel especially during the off season. I know that Puno doesn’t have many lodging choices for something more upscale than your average motel-type room but if you think Sonesta is one of them you need to seriously adjust your expectations. The only thing going for this place is the location. Would not recommend for a family. Maybe single bed rooms are more spacious but our triple definitely falls short.
Lovely hotel which would such a good rating just for having its own jetty, but it is a very good hotel on its own. Lovely spacious room, friendly staff, nice breakfast (with the exception of some horrible strange tasting scrambled egg). To have the tour on lake Titikaka just a stroll to the jetty was great. Only downside is that the hotel is very isolated and you need a taxi to get anywhere outside the hotel. Enjoyable stay.
We loved everything about this hotel. I had picked it based on previous good reviews and also the location being away from the center of town, the grounds and views. 1- All The staff here are very friendly, welcoming and helpful and went above and beyond in helping us in confirming our bus transfers to Arequipa. 2- Location perfection about sums it up. It suited us as it was quiet being away from the center of town. If you want to venture in it's only a short cab ride away although we did walk back from the docks one day it was long but durable. We had been at altitude for roughly 2 weeks by this stage of our trip as well. 3- Rooms. The first thing my son requested on seeing the room was to extend our stay here and we did as we loved it so much ! We had a 2nd floor room near the end of corridor lake view room. Amazing view ! Absolutely worth the upgrade price. We had 3 large sized beds in the room. A bed each basically ! The room was spacious, clean the beds so comfortable and an assortment of pillow choices. Cosmetics provided were very nice. Heater in the room worked well. Water pressure in the shower and hot water great. We even thought the liters of water they sold in the mini bar were a fair price. 4- The grounds here are special my son enjoyed bouncing on the trampoline and following the many guinea pigs around. The Llamas were also a nice touch. The outside cabana seating offered a shelltered peaceful place to sit out of the wind and relax. 5- The restaurant my son described it as a fancy restaurant on a cruise ship. We stayed 3 nights and ate here all nights as the food was so good. We didn't feel the need to venture in town or did we particularly like Puno city center. We were here the weekend of the anniversary of Puno celebrations so that brought a lot of people noise and litter so we were seeing it at its worse I think. The restaurant offers many different choices. By this point we'd eaten a lot of Peruvian food and the burgers and pizza made a nice change. Food quality presentation and service excellent. We also thought the prices were fair. The trout was a little bit of a disappointment but everything else great. It's worth pointing out if you don't want to pay the Peruvian tax on your restaurant bill you have to charge it to your room. Breakfast buffet excellent the best we had in Peru ! We ordered packed lunches at the hotel to take on our lake day trip and they were very nice, well worth it. Overall an excellent property exceeded our expectations and highly recommend to others.
We stayed 2 nights here will touring the area and it was a bit of a letdown after our locations in Cusco & Ollantaytambo, but this was a good hotel with plenty of hot water, comfy beds, nice bathroom, lovely lake views, decent (though not fabulous) breakfast. We loved watching the guinea pigs on the lawn...especially when they were chasing the flickers off! Restaurant was good, but pricey, food was way better going into town. Service was friendly & helpful. It was nice to walk right out to the dock to get our boat for the day trip on the lake.
Our fight into Juliaca got cancelled due to poor weather conditions and thus missed our first night at this hotel. Upon checking in, a day later, the front desk said we would not be charged for the night we missed. This was a grand gesture on the part of the hotel as it was not their fault we missed arriving the night before. After check-in we were immediately led to our rooms and offered cocoa tea and pure oxygen to help ease the altitude sickness. As my daughter and I were fighting colds and fevers just prior to leaving for vacation coupled with the altitude sickness this was a great help. The hotel offers great views of Lake Titicaca. Outside the breakfast area the hotel had 2 Alpaca’s to view which my 2 girls loved. The breakfast was very good and plentiful. More on a European standard rather then North American standard (so healthier). Hotel offers complimentary cocoa tea in the front lobby at all hours of the day. The rooms were very spacious and easily accommodated the 4 of us. The room was equipped with a modern washroom with plenty of hot water. The hotel is outside of town but a very cheap taxi ride to the centre of town. We paid 7 Sol at the low end and 10 Sol at the high end. ($2-3 USD). Wifi is provided free of charge and worked well during our stay. This was a truly great find and I would definitely stay again.
