Sonesta Posadas del Inca Lake Titicaca - Puno3.5 out of 5.0

The rooms are spacious and bed comfortable. Shower is over the bath so you need to be careful. The view out our window is of the train line and derelict buildings. Trains are very noisy. We would not recommend this hotel unless you are deaf
Right on Lake Titicaca with resident llamas & guinea pigs! I was in heaven! The decor and our room was beautiful and modern, friendly staff, wonderful food. We ended up eating breakfast and dinner for both days and the variety and quality was wonderful. Beautiful dining room with glass all around looking out over the grounds and lake. Our boat picked us up right at the hotel dock.
We travelled by bus from Cusco to Puno and were suffering from the effects of the altitude. Staff were friendly and welcoming but we did not appreciate the upstairs room as my wife had a problem with stairs. Our request for a downstairs room was ignored. The restaurant was full of smoke from the fireplaces and we had to leave because of this problem.
The hotel is located directly on the shore of Lake Titicaca and our boat trip left from the jetty at the back of the Hotel. The garden is lovely with tiny guinea pigs running around and two quintas in which to enjoy a view of the lake and watch the alpacas grazing. The only downside to the location is that it is a 15min taxi ride into Puno itself. The roooms are very large, ( our twin had two double beds) and quite luxurious and many have lake views. The TV's are huge but the one thing we didnt like about our room was that neither of us could reach the central bedside table when we were in bed which is a bit awkward when you need a drink in the middle of the night! Both the breakfast and the dinners were excellent with the highlight being the chicken with golden berry sauce which was delicious. They also made good pisco sours in the bar and had really nice coffee.
Stayed for 2 nights in September 17. This is a beautiful hotel with wonderful views of lake Titicaca. Our room was adequate with more than enough blankets, pillows and and an electric space heater that kept us toasty. the grounds are pretty with loungers, roofed sitting areas with fireplaces, llamas and guinea pigs wondering around-loved watching them from my window. The food deserves a special mention because it was fantastic and not too expensive considering this is an out of town hotel. apart from mild headache, we were not suffering from altitude sickness too much, but if you needed, they had plenty of coca tea in the lobby and oxygen was available for a small charge. I had a small problem at check out when receptionist could find a record of my pre-payment (paid through Expedia), but let me off and agreed to investigate later as we were late for our bus to Cusco - thanks very much!
The hotel is directly on the shore of Lake Titicaca, our room had an amazing view. The gardens run down to the water with lots of wild guinea pigs running around. We found the rooms to be a bit tired but clean. The bed was comfortable and there was plenty of hot water. The restaurant was very good with a varied breakfast in the morning and excellent evening meal.
The room had an excellent view of the lake, and the grounds are quite nice as well. I was able to walk out to the pagoda and see the city lights, in a serene and lovely setting. My room was especially nice, with excellent thick towels and a good line of toiletries. The wifi was having difficulties, kept cutting out while I tried to watch news online. I told the front desk in the morning, and the attendant said they had heard about it, would look into it. The staff was very polite and accommodating. Breakfast was really excellent, a very fresh and good selection of fruits.
it was a very nice place to stay, loved the guinea pigs running around and the alpacas. Why not tea and coffee facilities in the room or in the lobby to take to room. Australians are travelling more and more to south America and its something that is common in Australia.
It was the worst hotel we been in our trip to Peru, because even it has a privileged situation near the Titicaca lake, it lacks the good service (discipients...) and good food. The architecture is old fashion but it has a private pier.
What we liked: 1. Location--We liked being on the lake and out of the city of Puno but still a close taxi ride to everything. The views of the lake from the restaurant/dining were great. 2. The food served for both breakfast and dinner was really good. We would recommend the restaurant, and the service was great. 3. The rooms were very clean, and the bed was nice and comfortable with nice linens. 4. The service was excellent--all the staff were friendly and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. 5. The temperature in the room was comfortable, water was very hot, and the Wifi worked well. What we didn't like: 1. We didn't care for the decor. The hotel felt dreary and outdated. The couches in the reception area were old and sad-looking though the fire place was a plus. They can't do anything about the structure itself, but the hallways are narrow and long with dark doors and carpeting, and the room itself has an unpleasant color on the walls. The room had a lake view, but the design/structure didn't lend itself to seeing it. It all wasn't terrible, but the decor was a bit tired and depressing even though it appeared to be updated. 2. The bathroom was modern and clean, but it didn't have a fan which left all the surfaces, walls, floors, and all our stuff very wet after showering--like overly so. 3. The final morning at checkout our flight left very early (they start serving breakfast at 5 am which was nice). On awaking, we had an email in Spanish from our airlines that we asked one of the staff members at the desk to help translate. He read the email and directed us to their computers which wasn't really helpful, so we just left for the airport to figure it out there. We learned there that the email was advising us that our flight was delayed by 5 hours. That would have been really nice to know before we left the hotel! Although I don't expect the staff to speak English, I wish the person who served us would have directed us to a better English speaker to communicate the contents of the email. We know some of the staff speaks very good English so that was frustrating. Overall, the service and location make up for the failings of the decor.
