Aorangi Motel

Clean, Comfortable, Great Staff.

I give this hotel five stars because it provides exactly what I look for in a hotel (good bed, great shower, good wifi, very clean). If you want room service and a bellhop, then this is not the place for you. The lady who runs the place is great, and was very accommodating when it came to my 4am arrival time. The town of Fairlie is not very exciting, but it is within a two hour drive of enough hikes to keep myself occupied for a few days. The town has good services (bakery, chemist, restaurants, grocery store). The town is also not exactly on the tourist path, so you don't have to worry about buses discharging hordes of tourists. Back to the hotel, my room was a studio and the kitchen was well stocked with utensils and a good french press. The hotel also has laundry facilities. The price is great for a high quality hotel such as this. It is a great hotel if you want to range out to various day hikes (Tasman Glacier, Peel Forest), or if you just want to hide out from civilization for a few days catching up on paperwork.

Lake Tekapo Cottages

Lovely getaway

Arrived in the dark so it was a little challenging to find. But we were greeted warmly and shown right to our room. He gave us some great recommendations for restaurants (as well as one to avoid). The next day, he let us leave our car parked by the cabin even after we'd checked out. Overall a lovely experience.

The Godley Hotel

Lake Tekapo inn

The heating system needs to be explained at check-in time. Otherwise a nice place, marginally pricy.
