Our rooms were huge and had a gorgeous view of the mountains and lake.
Small room with no outlook but warm & comfortable. Bathroom spacious compared to size of room but a few corners starting to look grimy which shouldn't be the case in a hotel of this potential standard. The price was reasonable for this room. Would recommend but mainly because there is not a lot of competition in Tekapo, have stayed in larger rooms in the past and very nicely appointed.
When I checked into my room, a lake view suite, I found there was human feces stuck in the toilet, absolutely disgusting. After I informed the front desk, the front desk lady and a man, Jeet, in street clothes came to my room. The front desk lady was apologetic but the man was rude and walked all over the floor towel...Jeet was not helpful at all and was very rude. The next morning, hotel staffs told me that Jeet works in the restaurant, which meant that he had no business of being in my room at all.
THey have a nice little lagoon outside the main lodge where kids can feed the ducks. It is very close to the main town. We had some trouble with the tv but finally discovered a previous person had unplugged it. The hotel was a quiet one. We were the last room so the Wifi didn't work well. It was okay out on the landing near the lobby but not inside our room.
The hotel is arranged so many of the rooms have a lake view. There is a small pond with ducks and fish. Young children had fun feeding the ducks. Our boys had a queen bed and housekeeping came right up and made it into two twins. Wish WIFI worked in Room 1. Enjoyed our stay. Had trouble with the air conditioner but once that was sorted out it worked great.
Arrived 30 min before check-in. I was told housekeeping was running late, please give them an hour at most. We went to lunch and showed up an hour later - no room was ready. We were left waiting another hour. The 2 people helping me, snuck out back and a new employee was at the counter who I asked, and he didn't know i was waiting on a room. The room had been sitting waiting for a little while at that point. Once we got to the room, we settled in - beautiful view, pretty apartment-style room with lots of space. I took the room closest to the parking lot (there is one in back by the lot, and another facing the lake). I could hear EVERYTHING outside the door starting at 5 am. the room had absolutely no sound proofing. Also - you walk into a poorly situated door that leads into two separate apartments - very hard to get in and out with storage. The door is LOUD. very obnoxious. When we got up to get ready for our day, we realized the housekeeping left us no shampoo - they brought it to us an hour after we called, and said they didn't offer conditioner (even though we requested it, and they said they'd bring it right over.) I traveled the entire country, and this was by far, my worst experience. We paid too much for such poor service....very disappointing.
This is an excellent place for a family vacation. Rooms are top and the views are beautiful.
I booked the hotel through this website, but this website told me to try again because the first order for a one bedroom didn't go through. I never received a confirmation number, so I tried again. The second time went through along with my receiving a confirmation number. When we got to the hotel, they had me down for 2 rooms, which they merged and gave us a 2 bedroom townhouse, which was amazing (and overly large for 2 people). They said they would work with this website to settle the tab because we only were charged for one room even though they had us booked for two. Anyways, the view of the lake is wonderful - you could even see the famous church from our room. However, it was a cloudy night, so that was a bit disappointing. We didn't try the restaurant because the menu didn't seem that great. We wanted to try the pools, but we were told they closed around 8 or 9 (I forgot, but we went by at 10 and found some people were still swimming there, so that was a bit disappointing because they had such a nice pool area). The only reason why I put room cleanliness as 3/5 is that one of the tables in our townhouse had a dead bug on it. Gross. They also called me the morning we were going to check out to tell me that there was a problem with the gas for the oven. Call me paranoid, but we left as soon as we could after being told that. All in all, the view was beautiful - and that's why you stay at this hotel - to enjoy the sunrise and the sunset, swim, and enjoy vacation.
The lounge/ kitchen was fantastic area for the family to kick back upstairs with beautiful views. With the snow falling and the gas fire glowing it just made the place even more magical ! I Would recommend the two bedroom units for a great family getaway to all.
