It's a wonderful hotel in a great location. Staff is great. The breakfast is excessively overpriced at CHF 40/pax. Dining at the petit palac was really nice. We had a room with lake view, which was nice. Montreux in august (right after the jazz festival) is completed deserted and most bars/ restaurants are closed. Keep this in mind when booking your stay.
Enjoyed our stay in the fantastic Freddie mercury studio. Beautiful rooms and excellent service. Good location and enjoyed our buffet breakfast. Central in town and on the lake. Our child enjoyed the pool and willow spa looked enticing.
Recently stayed at the Fairmont for 5 nights. Had a deluxe lake view room, which had a great view and a balcony. Room was well appointed as was the bathroom. Staff was very professional and helpful. The hotel is very well located, very close to train station which is a big plus. The only negatives I would mention is that, as another reviewer mentioned, the A/C does not really work well, and on warm days the room just does not cool off and can be very uncomfortable. We had to keep the curtains closed to try to keep the room as cool as possible, which then negates the lovely views. The only other negative is that the housekeeping could be better. This is not something I usually would have noticed, but there was a lamp on a long arm over the desk. The entire area on top of the lamp and going up to the arm was filled with cobwebs, as I happened to see when I looked at the lamp in the daylight. This was a very large area that was filled with cobwebs, something that takes many months to happen, so it's not just that it had not been cleaned that day--this was a long standing issue. Other than that, the hotel was great, staff wonderful, and the spa and pool area was really a great addition--took advantage of that during our stay. Would not hesitate to return.
Room 402 was wonderfully large with a very nice sized bath and a terrific balcony overlooking the lake. Worth every penny! Beautiful hotel! The attached restaurants were horribly overpriced tho. Search out less expensive options down the street. Plan ahead for the slow and confusing elevators too.
The Montreux Fairmont Palace is a luxury hotel, with extraordinary views over Lake Geneva, beautiful public areas within the hotel, conveniently located just across the street from the lake. It has several restaurants within the hotel, several pools, spas, and a beautiful lawn area overlooking the water. We decided to splurge, and spend three nights here in mid July. With the high price comes high expectations, which, unfortunately, were not met. First the good: We stayed in a deluxe room with a balcony view of the lake. The room was big, clean, with fridge and coffee maker, and a large luxury bathroom with two sinks, separate tub and shower. The hotel itself was beautiful, both inside and out. We enjoyed a late afternoon drink on the terrace overlooking the lake, and had a tasty (but expensive) meal at a table with a beautiful lake view. The service was great. The reception staff was attentive. When I came in from my early morning exercise walk, sweating, they ran up and gave me a cold bottle of water. The hotel is centrally located. It is a short bus ride to the Chateau de Chillon, an extraordinarily well preserved castle nearby. If you like history and castles, this castle is a must visit. There are multiple restaurants near the hotel. And there is a scenic promenade walkway along the lake, just a short 1 minute walk away. The boat dock is an easy 5 minute walk. From here, you can visit every other town on the lake, including nearby Lausanne. The train station is an easy 10 minute walk. On the downside: Our room on the 5th floor was way too hot, even with the air conditioning at full blast. The A/C is run on lake water, which limits it's effectiveness. It was warm outside, 85 degrees Fahrenheit (30 degrees Centigrade), and we could not sleep comfortably. The bathroom floor is heated; the heat could not be turned off which compounded the problem. The balcony on our room was tiny. My wife and I could both fit on it, but barely. Finally, we were there just after the Montreux Jazz Festival. Our beautiful view of the lake was obstructed by a crane, and the constant noise of workmen taking down the buildings, stage, etc. Avoid the days after the Montreux Jazz Festival. We enjoyed our stay in Montreux, but we'd probably choose another hotel next time.
One of my only bad reviews! We have been depending on Fairmonts for years of traveling and always had great experiences. But, one of the measures of service is guest accommodation and this hotel failed us. My fault for booking just after the Montreux jazz festival, their fault for inflexibility when I asked to leave early because of the tremendous noise from 8am til 7pm from the deconstruction. My advice: there a other really nice places in this city, with even better views, that will probably have better management.
Great service, wonderful hospitality with a smile, good directions on activities and restaurants. It is perfectly located in Montreux with a broad variety of room sizes. The only drawback is a limited and expensive array of beverages at the bar.
We always expect and generally receive Five Star Service and Treatment at a Fairmont property. this hotel is no different. It has old world ambience, excellent service, great location and is beautiful. The spa is terrific.
I recently stayed in Montreux for 2 nights with my 2 children, ages 8 & 9, and we absolutely loved this hotel! It was very convenient (a 5 minute walk from the train station), the staff was very warm and helpful, and our King Deluxe Lake view room was lovely and spacious, with a beautifully updated bathroom and amazing views of the lake. The location was great, you could access the bus across the street or walk along the promenade. We especially loved the pool (both indoor and outdoor!) which was a great way to unwind at the end of the day. We ate dinner here one night while the kids swam, and it was very good! I would highly recommend this hotel, and would definitely stay here again if we return to Montreux!
The Fairmont Le Montreux Palace is a phenomenal property located right on Lake Geneva in the charming town of Montreux. My wife and I stayed here in June for one night as we were passing the area while on our honeymoon. We left our car with the valet (roughly $45 per night) and were greeted into the ornate lobby and reception area. Check in was a breeze, and we were shown into our very impressive room overlooking the lake on the fifth floor. The room itself was very well-appointed, and the views from the balcony were breathtaking. I would recommend paying a little more to reserve a lake-view room. We were truly grateful for the hotel's lovely gesture in providing us a delicious heart-shaped chocolate cake. Our experience was truly exceptional. Every staff member was friendly, and the hotel's location right on the Montreux promenade was superb. We chose to leisurely walk to the Chillon Castle, which took us roughly 45 minutes. The swimming pools (both indoor and outdoor) offered a nice place to relax after a long day of exploring. The only aspects of the hotel I found peculiar was the (very comfortable) bed, which was actually two beds pushed together with two different duvets, etc.. I've seen this arrangement in other hotels in Switzerland, but less so at luxury properties. Also, the bathroom and shower, while comfortable and spacious, was starkly less adorned than the rest of the room. Still, everything was clean and the water pressure was great. I highly recommend this hotel and can't wait to go back!
