We stopped for lunch here and were pleasantly surprised at the hospitality shown. The lady was friendly and helpful and the food and drinks were good. However, the bill was wrong and we were charged for 2 coffees we didn't have. My husband queried this after the money had been handed over but was only refunded one of the coffees. Couldn't be bothered trying to argue about it so we decided not to leave a tip. It's a pity because it spoiled the experience somewhat.
Bar is on the 1 floor of the guesthouse. We have been in this bar twice (just to watch football game on tv) and drink some italian beer. Located on a hill in Brunate. The barman is the owner, very friendly and hospitable! Really recommend to visit this family owned bar! This place is trully Italia
Nice clean guesthouse. With a private parking spot. A bit loud during the evening times since it is the only restaurant in the area which opens late. But the rooms are super clean and the owners very attentive. If you come by car it will take a while from Como. The option is to take the cable car which is anyway the stunning experience-option. Breakfast was super nice and fresh
This is one of the best hotels i have been .Located up on hill .its a family owned hotel.the lady on the reception was very polite .i was offered a beautiful room with a street review.the best part of the hotel is its located on the hill up from lakecomo .funcional take u up .i found this gem by exploring lakecomo.very quite perfect view .highly recomended not to forget the breakfast.it was azaming i was traveling with father and the lady in kitchen made us omelete. Will keep coming back every year .
Rooms are quaint but clean and comfortable. We had been traveling for 2 weeks when we got there and this was the most inexpensive place we stayed - we were leery but pleasantly surprised!. Best perk is the outdoor areas and the bar - which was always full of fun locals. This is certainly on my "return someday" list!
First asked a staff member outside for a table. Then he walked away without an explanation. Then a few minutes after another waiter came and asked if he could help. There was no more room outside because a little concert was in preparation. We were seated at a table inside. The room is very old fashioned and not very clean. The second waiter was running all over the place in sweat all the time, trying to do what he could to help all the customers, but the first one (who seemed to be the boss) was really not on the same pace. In fact he looked like he was not concerned about his guests, not noticing that his colleague was overloaded. The difference in behavior made us uncomfortable. The food was ok. Traditional dishes, without any original touch. We wil not return if we go back to that region.
Locanda Milao is a rustic hotel in the town Brunate over lake Como. The flags out front are a little worn and so is the hotel for better or worse. The hotel staff were nice. The room was small but adequate. Certainly without luxury but clean. The bathroom was quite small, while there was a bidet, the toilet was on a diagonal so it would fit. The major issue I ran into, was the lack of hot water and I had to essentially take an at best lukewarm shower. The breakfast consisted of some breads, rolls, a small assortment of cheese and meat, yogurt, etc. While parking was available it was very tight even in my Fiat 500 and you could easily end up being boxed in. Wi-fi in my room was a little spotty. All in all not a bad experience but not a great one either.
On a recent trip to Italy with family, we opted to stay in Brunate instead of Como for the few nights we were in the lakes area. We selected Locanda Milano based on reviews, price and availability. We were glad that we did. My wife and I got the room with the terrace leading out from the bathroom. We were greeted by name as we arrived at the hotel office. The staff was very friendly. The lady who checked us in spoke English, which was helpful as our Italian is limited. The service throughout our stay was good. Brunate turned out to be a sleepy little mountain village and was perfect for the beginning of our tour of Italy. The area is perfect for walking and hiking. We found little markets where we could get wine, cheese and bread. We enjoyed these on our balcony. The remainder of our family arrived the following day and we utilized the larger Veranda just below our balcony for our larger group. For our time in Italy, we found the breakfast/service at Locanda Milano to be the best. They set tables just for our group and brought fresh espresso, cappuccino, latte—whatever we wished. We also ate at their restaurant for dinner one evening. We tried their tourist menu and found it to be a good value. We are firm believers that having realistic expectations can help make sure that you have a good experience, so with that in mind, we offer the following: There are stairs required for accessing the rooms. If you have trouble with bags, the staff is happy to assist. The beds are twin beds. If you get a double room, there will be two of these pushed together. We found this to be true in most places we stayed in Italy. The rooms were very clean and nicely appointed. Keep in mind that you are experiencing history—the building wasn’t built last year: enjoy it! The rooms had very nice windows and shutters, but no screens. Our stay was in May, so we enjoyed the cool air at night. There was no fan or air-conditioning in our room, but we did not expect to have it. By leaving the windows open, we enjoyed the quaint sounds of Brunate at night. One evening the restaurant/bar below us was hosting a fun group of locals (and some of our family members) for drinks and a football game. We could have closed the windows to have more quiet, but the sounds of people laughing, talking and enjoying Brunate were our lullaby for the evening. (The room that our other family members had faced the rear street and they noted that it was VERY quiet.) Our stay at Locanda Milano and Brunate was the perfect start for our trip to Italy. If you are looking for an off-the-beaten-path, local immersion experience, you can’t go wrong here!
We want to say a big thankyou to Roberto and the other staff who came to our rescue when we got into trouble on the road (Our van was much too big for those conditions but we didn't realise that until it was too late!) If you are looking for somewhere to stay in Como we're sure you will be well looked after here. GRAZIE MILLE x
We enjoyed staying at this property very much. We drove from the Milan airport and had a GPS unit which made the ascent to Brunate easier. One thing we found is to beep before the switchback turn if you are driving to alert any oncoming traffic approaching that you may not be able to see because of the sharp curves. We were able to drive directly into the property's driveway once we reached the little hillside town. There is a little grocery store a 3 minute walk from the hotel & we were able to get extremely affordable wine & water & snacks. The funicular is also extremely close and convenient. We like Brunate for the view below of Como & because of the small village ambience. Another thing to note is that we ate at the trattoria that is adjacent to the Tobacci shop (2 min walk away) & love, LOVE the view & the risotto. We also ate at Locanda Milano's restaurant itself for another evening & it was delicious! We only know some basic words in Italian but were able to get by just fine in Brunate & at this property.
