Location was amazing and getting there was half the fun! Sorry to say the food wasn't as good as everyone ranted and raved about. The staff was super, there would go out of there way for you. The walk to the lighthouse was a lot more challenging then you think.
Located steps from the funicular stop in Brunate. The views from the lake facing rooms and from the restaurant are breathtaking. The restaurant serves decent food at reasonable prices. Our room was located two flights up from the main level and accessed via steep and narrow wooden stairs-no elevator here. There is another floor above. We were not able to get a room with balcony but still had a picture-perfect view of Como and the lake. I guess you have to book way-way in advance if you fancy a balcony. The room and the bathroom were clean and the staff was very nice and helpful. Now for the bad- Our room was really small. The bathroom seemed to have been cut out of the room much later because it is more like partitioned out of the room. We are of small build and we had to make room for the other to move about in the room. I hate to think how a large couple would navigate in such tight quarters. Not sure why tripadvisor lists this hotel as 'Bellavista boutique hotel' because the sign outside the hotel says Albergo Bellavista!
Nice, beautiful hotell with wonderful views from rooms with view to Como lake. Observere that the beds are very short (approx 190 cm) if you are tall. It's a old hotel with thin doors so it can be a little noise from other gusets. Clean and great new bathrooms! Excellent restaurant!
The hotel is perfectly located high above Como and the masses of tourists in the town. The hotel is perched on a hill above Como, but within metres of the funicular which runs to midnight in summer and travels down to the lake. The hotel has a handful of rooms and operates its own restaurant which was full each night of our stay. The rooms are quaint, of a bit dated, and the bathrooms are satisfactory. We had a room with a small balcony that had views of the lake and mountains. Breakfast provided the usual range of pasture, cereals, breads, etc. the hotel also has parking for about 6 cars - it’s a bit of a squeeze to enter. The trickiest part is getting to the hotel up the extremely narrow and windy road - particularly the last kilometre or so. The windy middle section can be avoided by selecting the alternative road to Como a couple of kilometres down (look for it on your GPS)
At the top of the funicular, a super family run hotel, with great views. We stopped for lunch, nice salad, superb pasta and a tiramisu to die for. Lovely friendly staff as well. And it helps that it is 10c cooler than lake level!
Really fun experience. Hotel is in Brunate above Como City and lake. Its a fun challenge to drive to it from Como. Hotel staff helped get us a parking spot and carried our bags for us to the top floor where the family room was located. No elevator. No AC. Hotel is on top of the mountain so as long as you keep the windows open there is a nice breeze. View from the room was amazing looking down on Como lake and city. Hotel included breakfast. Very tasty, no savory items though. Would be nice to have some meats and cheese. View from the patio restaurant was spectacular with lake below and mountains in the distance. Family room was very comfortable. Not a huge space but very functional for two adults and two children. Hotel is next to a funicular that takes to to Como city. We used that to go to the lake and catch a ferry to Bellagio. The hotel restaurant was fantastic. Great handmade pastas.
Outstanding place with stunning views overlooking the lake of Como. Rooms are full of charm, the young personnel is very friendly and professional. We had an excellent dinner at the restaurant... just try it ☺️
We chose this location (Brunate) based on the fact that it had a funicular, and how often do you get to ride a funicular?!? The hotel itself was very charming and the staff very friendly, but the drive up to Brunate and within the town was quite a challenge--very narrow roads with hairpin turns. Parking is available, but limited. The room we were in (10, I think, on the top floor) was spacious and quiet. There were 4 windows that opened, allowing the cool breeze to circulate, however they were basically on the floor, so to look outside you had to crouch down. I imagine it was easier to enjoy the view (bellavista) from lower floors where the windows were "normal". There were also two skylights in the room (with darkening shades). The bed was comfortable (or I was exhausted and didn't care?). The bathroom was average in size and easy to use with a shower, sink, toilet and bidet. The stairwell is on the narrow side and there is no lift (so pack lightly). The best part, however, was the continental breakfast. There was fresh fruit, breads, yogurt, juices, meats, and of course made to order caffeinated drinks. On Friday night there was live music downstairs in the restaurant, which may have been bothersome if we had been on a lower floor. The funicular takes you down to the town of Como for 5.50 euros round trip. Both nights we were there we ate in Como, mostly because it was where we happened to be at dinnertime and we liked having more the options. I hear the restaurant at the hotel is very nice.
We were told by a friend not to miss having a drink at the Bellavista restaurant if we went up to Brunate by Funicolare. When arrived, there was a sign “please wait to be seated” although only a few tables were occupied. We saw a female staff using her phone at a far corner so we tried several times to get her attention by saying Buongiorno, finally she saw us! She was cold and wasn’t apologetic. We asked to sit at a table with the best view but were told they were reserved for lunch. We were seated at the end of the outdoor seating, ordered a bottle of wine and asked again if we could move to sit at the table in the middle with best view until the reserved guests arrive. She quickly checked with another staff nearby and said no. We walked off. She showed no regret and so did we. We ended up eating at Trattoria Dei Bracconieri restaurant which also offered great view of Como with a superior service and very welcoming staff than the Bellavista restaurant.
Great family run hotel overlooking Lake Como, with a restaurant where the food, wine choice and service was excellent. The view from the restaurant terrace and our bedroom over the lake was fantastic, especially at sunset. Also, worth noting it is close to the funicular. I would recommend this hotel!
