We stayed for 2 nights we reached earlier than check in time ....had to wait for long my room was with big balcony can see lake Como but the room is very old there’s a crack on the wall floor wasn’t even... while trying to sleep you could hear the next room voice talking ...bathroom has only shower gel and soap no other amenities ..breakfast has very less variety...but the location is very good ...we had dinner at hotel restaurant food was very good
This lovely hotel is nestled in the valley right on the banks of Lake Como. Also surrounded by great places to eat and shop, the owners have managed to keep the hotels ambience as it was while keeping pace.Friendly staff lovely antiques everywhere! You can’t go wrong keep your glitzy Chrome palaces this place has real character!
We stayed here for 2 nights and wish we had longer. A lovely old hotel right near the southern shore of Lake Como, our room had a great view of the lake and also the square next to the hotel. Magical watching the sun set reflecting on the buildings near the funicular railway (worth a trip but beware the queues). Our room was very traditional but nicely appointed with a nice powerful shower and very effective double glazed door to the balcony. Usual buffet breakfast offering in a nice water side restaurant. We did not use the restaurant for dinner as there are many fantastic places to eat in Como. We would definitely stay here again.
We are on our last evening at the Metropole Suisse Como and will be sad to leave. The reception staff are happy , friendly , helpful and very genuine. Eleanora suggested a local family restaurant and it was wonderful. Brekky is more than sufficient with cereal, fruits, eggs, bacon & all the other usual items. The room is beautiful and best of all so clean... with crisp white sheets and nice towels. The hotel is older and we read reviews about old stripped velour lounges etc but I’m fussy and I think they look great ... heaps of new establishments in Singapore and Australia have similar in their lobby. The hotel is located directly across from both the ferry and fast boat station where tickets can be purchased and time tables checked. There is a basement supermarket about 5 min walk away where water , beer, nibbles & fruit can be purchased. Many many cafes and restaurants with varying prices surround the Metropole. WiFi is also free for guests. Toiletries are provided as is a hair dryer. The main station is a 20 min down hill 2klm walk to hotel .. but we wouldn’t recommend doing it with suitcases and if you aren’t fit .as there are stairs and cobble stone roads to negotiate ... not fun ... take a taxi. What else can I say but “ not happy about leaving”... we will be back.🤗
4 nights here before heading to Venice to pick up ship.. Hotel is right in front of the lake and across the road from the boat ticket office... food is good and atmosphere is relaxed... rooms clean with great facilities... prices fair for its location and one of the best locations in como
Located in Como city center just by the lake and close to all restaurants. Quite expensive and not for the budget traveller, but on the other hand Como is not a budget destination. Some of the rooms have balcony with stunning views over lake Como, very nice in the evening. Breakfast with good quality. Parking garage available if you travel by car as we did. Will not give this hotel top rating tho as the rooms and bathrooms are small and outdated.
Our two week vacation started at this historic hotel on the shores of Lake Como in the city center of Como, Italy. We were welcomed by a friendly, professional and helpful staff to their 4 star hotel. At first glance the lobby does look like the decor could use some updating, for sure the striped velour upholstery looks a bit tired. The reception area is tiny but seeing there were just 4 of us at the desk it was not a problem. Parking space around hotel very troublesome but we did find a hotel specific place (free) around the corner behind the hotel which is situated on a city square. Our double room had a sideways glance at the lake (room 39), a large bathroom with shower in tub, a safe in the room and breakfast included in our room rate. The room and bathroom were VERY clean and attractively decorated, but tired. Specifically the cut velvet headboard and upholstered pull up chairs showed lots of wear. The location is superb! Check in and out very efficient and food in dining room was very good. Very nice buffet breakfast.
From the minute we arrived to when we left, the service was excellent. The rooms are extremely clean, the staff are to be congratulated, as they were so helpful and friendly and could not do enough to make our stay comfortable and relaxing. We would go back again just for the hotel.
My husband and I stayed 3 nights the first week of September and we have nothing but positive things to say about this hotel and staff. It sits directly across the street from the ferry boat ticket station and docks for ferries that take you to surrounding towns on Lake Como, very convenient! There are restaurants in town nearby and several that run along the water’s edge a short walk from the hotel. The staff here are fabulous, very helpful with restaurant recommendations, boat ferry departure times, funicular information and requests for extra pillows, etc were responded to quickly. Our room, 209, on the 3rd floor, had a wrap around balcony for views of the lake and the surrounding mountain sides. There are two balcony doors in this room, one overlooking the lake and one on the side overlooking an open plaza like area. The bed was comfortable, the pillows were flat, so we requested extras. The bathroom had a toilet, bidet, large sink and very small shower with shower curtain that didn’t really keep the floor and bath mat towel from getting soaking wet. This hotel has a full service sit down restaurant and bar, no take away for morning coffee but there is a great coffee take away just across the plaza, Cafe Monti and Gelateria Lariana has great gelato next to the hotel across from the water. The views of the lake are unbeatable and glad we stayed here instead of the Hilton which is further removed from town and all the restaurants, shopping and ferry boats. There is a funicular that can take you up to Brunate, which we did our last day for lunch at Ristorante Bellavista, an excellent recommendation from Metropole Suisse.
I try to judicious with my reviews and this is my honest experience. Overall this just wasn't good. To start with it isn't acceptable that a hotel is allowed to book a room stating "some rooms have a balcony". Either charge me for a balcony and give me a balcony and give me a balcony or don't charge me that price when you don't give me a balcony. You know how many of your rooms have a balcony and how many rooms don't. When you book a certain number of rooms, STOP advertising "may" have a balcony, sell the room cheaper and say NO balcony. That's HONEST and it saves everyone in the end. Next, a lake view should not include having to look though the hotel sign. Again, I should not have to pay more specifically for a lake view only to have to look at it through to hotel's sign. The hotel is within 10 or 15 minutes walk of the main train station (San Giovanni. It was an ok walk from the station because it was mostly down hill. There is another station (Lago) that is a bit closer but I don't know how many trains you can get to that station. Our room was ready when we arrived with was after normal check-in. We were on the 1st floor (European)/2nd floor (American) and had booked a lake view room. It was quite spacious with 2 twin beds and a couch. The tv was wall mounted above the couch, so you couldn't watch tv from the couch. There were 2 closets, 1 on either side of the beds and a desk. The bathroom was bid and modern, recently remodeled. There was a big walk in shower. It was a very hot week that we were there, unseasonably hot. The hotel had A/C but it was not able to keep up. I set it to 17C but it would not keep the room below 26C. I know that 28C is 82F. We are not people who need it too cool and understand that most places in Europe don't have A/C at all. But I would expect a place with A/C would work. Being on a low floor above the restaurant/bar that was opened late we couldn't keep the window open because it was loud, but we had to. But, it was just too hot to sleep. Luckily we were only there for 2 nights. The breakfast was in the restaurant and it had some hot offering and standard cold/bread/pastries. It was plenty to get you going. We enjoyed the location. We were able to walk to the funicular in the morning and then across to the other side of the lake in the afternoon. The boat launches are right in front of the hotel across the street. There are also plenty of restaurants within just minutes from the hotel. The second (last) morning the shower did not drain at all. The shower stall has no door and by the time I realized it water had backed up across the entire bathroom and was heading into the bedroom. I had to roll towels to dam up the water. It eventually drained, a slow drain situation, but there was a mess everywhere. We were glad to leave. The town is very cute and going up to Brunate is a great experience. The people were nice enough but the sell of the room and advertising it as a lake view, possibly balcony is a joke. Probably because I booked through hotels.com I got the scraps. We will not return here in the future and I would recommend trying a different hotel in this area.
