This is a really big hotel located about 30-40 minutes walk from the capital Santa Cruz. The "town" is called Los Cancajos and are basically just a few hotels, restaurants and supermarkets. It has a black beach and some good walks though. Easy access to bus stop, airport etc. From reading the reviews, I understand we stayed in the old part of the hotel, which is quite dated. Sleeping quality was VERY poor, and you could hear the neighbours talk, watching TV and even snoore. I'd expect better from that kind of hotel. Breakfast is abundant and good, lot to choose from. Never had any other meals at the hotel. Most people seemed to have full-board though which makes all the other restaurants surrounding the hotel completely empty. Wifi was excellent in our room. Carpark just across the street. My advice is to rent a car and spend as little time at the hotel as possible. Not because the hotel is bad, but because La Palma is such a beautiful an un-touristy island that such be discovered.
Great location by beach and 5 minutes from lovely town of Santa Cruz and 5 minutes to airport. All the staff were extremely efficient, hard working and helpful. Lovely big refurbished bedroom with balcony overlooking sea with bath, shower and fridge. Good food selection including fresh salads and grilled fish. very speedy checking in and out. Couldn't have asked for more. Very helpful tourist information office just round the corner. Did fantastic bus tour with Natur to the north and west of the island but wasn't told until underway that there would be no english commentary, no toilets on board and then that first loo stop nearly 4 hours into the journey. But would do it again!
A return trip to a very relaxed but professional hotel. From the moment we checked in the staff were fantastic and very friendly. Everyone works so hard and this is shown in the overall cleanliness. The restaurant offers a great selection at breakfast, lunch and dinner, we liked to sit in the terrace area in the evening. We were creatures of habit and from the second day the staff remembered our drinks, the waiter service in the bar in the evenings was fantastic. The evening entertainment was not to our taste but still enjoyable. The fantastic customer service was shown when I left my mobile in the taxi on the way back to the airport. I emailed the hotel, they made contact with the driver and arranged for him to deliver my phone to the hotel and they sent it to me. Amazing! Thank you again. Plus points Service Friendliness of the staff Cleanliness Cocktails View Close to the airport Quiet pool area Great food choice Comfortable beds
We stayed at this hotel for a week and found it to be a great hotel. The staff work really hard and are super friendly. The hotel is really clean. The food is good with a large variety. The hotel is in a good position, easy transfer to the airport , bus stop is just outside the hotel with good access to other parts of the island. Santa Cruz is a nice day out, you can walk to it in about 50 minutes along the coast. We also went on the Dolphin and Whale watching trip which you can get from the hotel and we were not disappointed as we got to see both Dolphins and a Whale. Personally I would have liked a gym, however that was the only complaint. Overall a really lovely hotel with great staff!
We have just got back from a great stay at the H10 Taburiente, On reading other reviews i was bit dubious, But need not have worried the hotel is a great place to stay we thoroughly had a great time. I think that i review things fairly and what i can say say about this hotel is that the staff are amazing so friendly, Yes you could pick very small faults if you look hard but overall this hotel represents great value, The place is spotlessly clean, The food is good, not top class fantastic but none the less very good, What i would like to say is the drink range in the all inclusive is one of the best i have ever experienced with branded spirits and great beer served in proper pint mugs, Also an abundance of cocktails. Wine list served at meal times is also all inclusive. What you do not experience in many all inclusive deals is the the staff constantly come to your table during the day and evening to take your drink order, They were fantastic. So overall we had a wonderful stay at a great hotel in a good location, looked after by great staff, So if your looking for a nice holiday go to H10 Taburiente,Very good value. If you want 5 star pay 5 star prices, I would recommend this hotel for value.
We stayed here during early April and as regular travellers to different locations we were pleasantly surprised. Booked independently and stayed 4 days - we don’t do packages and combined this with 5 days in Tenerife – 30min Binter inter island flight from Tenerife North was good service and value. Arrived about 3.30 to a friendly reception and room was ready – strangely for H10 no welcome drink. Room was booked with H10 on line which gives you full choice of all available room types – we chose deluxe suite all inclusive at around 150 Euro a night for 2 guests. Room was in the refurbished area of the hotel which appears to have previously been an apartment complex that has now been taken over by the hotel. Separate bedroom, bathroom with rain dance shower, living room with a small kitchen area with fridge, microwave, sink but no cups or utensils etc which was a bit weird. Room was modern comfortable, very clean and had a small balcony with a table and chairs overlooking a quiet side street but also a huge separate terrace looking towards the sea with a second table and chairs and two sun loungers – this area got the sun all day but could be windy at times. All inclusive was good with nice breakfast, buffet lunch on the pool terrace and also buffet evening meal. Food was of a good standard in line with what you would expect at a H10 4 star hotel, decent wine and good drinks. Nice pool area, very quiet with plenty of sun loungers to go around at all times, one pool was heated pool salt water not sure about the others as too cold to try. All staff were very friendly which is what we have come to find at all H10 hotels. Quite a mix of guest nationalities and age ranges but a nice relaxed environment. You can walk into Santa Cruz but it’s not a particularly picturesque walk and quite a hike back but plenty of buses and taxis. The town itself is very nice and original in areas for a walk round but expect it to be busy if the cruise ships are in. We hired a convertible car and toured the island which was a great way to see it very green and picturesque. The roads can be a bit narrow and windy but there is very little traffic, plenty of parking in the hotel car park. Overall, I can’t really understand the negative comments on some reviews – unfortunately some people go away some to find a reason to complain
Excellent staff, magnificent drinks, great food, clean and relaxed. Great for chilled out holiday, not for those wanting clubbing and kids clubs etc. Older clients, ideal location for exploring or just gentle coastal strolls. Range of entertainment from traditional Canary dancers to acrobats!
Easy check in - Reception staff able to speak english well. We arrived early - 11am - and our room was not ready. Our luggage was put into a storage room and we were given a ticket to collect when our room was ready. Easy to swap over to lunch - just asked for a token at the reception which you hand to the staff member on the door in the dinning room. There isnt a huge variety of foods but there is still a variety. Fish, meat, veggie options, salad, bread, cheese and a dessert table. Food was different every meal. some things not so nice but mostly good food. The room was standard - two twin beds, a bathroom with bath - shower inside - hair dryer - shampoo - shower gel - soap - tissues - shower cap. Towels supplied. Balcony with views over the pool and over looking the sea. Pillows were amazing! Bed pretty comfortable. mini fridge which did come in Handy. TV only had Spanish speaking channels - which was to be expected and remained off for the entire time! Three pools - one at the back seems to be in need of some resurfacing both around and in the pool. None seemed to be heated which was a little disappointing as it made it too cold to get in most days. Little kids play area which was brilliant. Plenty of pamphlets about for different actives available around the island. Other than the pools not being heated i cannot fault this hotel! The staff were very helpful . Most of the food was good. The beds comfortable and the rooms clean. Good base in a good location with the bus stop just outside!
I have stayed in this hotel 3 times since the time in January 2014 for which I wrote a review here on Tripadvisor, most recently for 14 days about a month ago. I thought that it was time to write another review to update what I think about the hotel. Hotel Taburiente Playa is excellent such that I have already booked a return visit, and for longer, too! This time I was given a room at the back of the hotel, with a balcony from which I could look out to sea. For me, the feature of the holiday was to see dolphins off the hotel on 12 days out of 14. Indeed, and not from the hotel, it is true, last month I even saw a dolphin from the plane as it took off. I told other guests and people around Los Cancajos about the dolphins, and I hope that this added to their enjoyment of their stay. There are now whale and dolphin watching trips from Santa Cruz just along the coast as well as from Puerto de Tazacorte in the west. A member of staff from Ocean Explorer is on hand in Reception for about 2 hours per day to book trips and answer questions. I spoke to two people from the company and found them to be very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. If any other the other guests recognise me by now (and a sleuth who was a fellow guest did from previous reviews on Tripadvisor!), they will be thinking: “Why hasn't he mentioned the weather?” Exactly! On this holiday there was more rain than on all of my previous 9 holidays in La Palma put together. It was often windy, especially during the first week (at the end of February), such that some flights did not land and there was the alarming spectacle of seeing planes having to go round for a second attempt, and they were sometimes the lucky ones. Fortunately, my flights were OK. The bad weather wasn't restricted to La Palma, of course: the Isle of Man and the UK were hit, as well. The food remains excellent in Hotel Taburiente Playa, with a wide choice. The restaurant is busier than ever as the hotel has renovated some blocks just to the south, resulting in even more people dining in the restaurant. However, the restaurant staff have risen to the challenge and if the tables all fill up a senior waiter sorts out a table for those queueing ASAP, which didn't seem to be long. Maybe the biggest problem would be for larger parties. I sometimes went along for my evening meal a bit later, which I suppose is an advantage of being a solo traveller able to suit myself when I eat! There were sometimes long queues outside the restaurant as it opened, a time to avoid if you can and are so inclined? I can not be certain, of course, but there seem to be more staff in the restaurant now than when I stayed previously. An endearing thing about the visit was that some members of staff recognised me and were pleased that I had returned. Bus prices on La Palma haven't gone up for about 3 years, and that was only a small rise. Prices with the discount card, available from bus drivers (ask for a "bono") and allowing a 20% discount, are €1.10 for the shorter runs and €1.70 for anything longer (up to about 60km). The card is topped up with money before use, but only in multiples of €10.00. You tell the driver where you are going, the driver clicks the ticket machine, the driver tells you to place your "bono" on a pad on the machine and your ticket prints out. There is a bit of a ritual with this. Helpfully, the ticket tells you how much credit is still on the "bono" whether or not you need to buy more credit. Playa de Los Cancajos, where the hotel is situated, is the largest resort on La Palma, although it is small compared with those on Tenerife, for example. Some of the retail units are empty, although maybe temporary businesses use the vacant properties in the summer, but I can't be sure of that, of course. One that did open in the previous 11 months is a vegan place (from memory, both a cafe and deli) in the block just beyond the road to Reception at Hotel Las Olas, which is at the southern end of the resort by the road to the airport. Hopefully, that benefits sufficient visitors for it to continue in business.
A good base to explore La Palma. Ample parking, and professional staff. The food has been good and the service in the restaurant excellent. It feels like a Spanish hotel . The only thing I’d change would be to include a gym as March was a little too cold to use the pool. There used to be a gym in the sister hotel/apartments next door, but it got closed as no one used it! A good central location for everywhere if you are going to explore and hire a car, plus only a few Euros in a taxi to the airport - don’t worry flights are infrequent and most are the small inter-Island ones. Good value for money!
