It looks like many of the rooms have had renovations. Mine was an older room, but looked and worked just fine. All the things you need for time on the beach just steps away. The services I got were impeccable. A very enjoyable place.

Fabulous, bygone era atmosphere & stellar beachfront style. Super clean - attentive staff. ( Marine Room only issue, smells very musty ) Miss it already!

Beautiful and classy accommodations and so much to do at the club. The staff was especially nice, felt like we were friends.

Amazing location with Large rooms, a super beach, heated Olympic size pool, and professional tennis courts and setup. Our room was a bit dated, and had a decidedly musty odor which the hotel said was because the room had not been aired for several days. Well, hello, isn’t that the responsibility of a good hotel??? On top of that several of the windows did not stay up when we tried to open to air the rooms.

I would never stay here again. I was given a room with a broken heating system. I told the front desk and they told me the heat has been broke in the room for a while. I asked for new room. They said they were totally booked which was an lie cause the parking lot was empty and I only saw a few other people there during my stay. From my experience there is 2 parts to the hotel. One for members of the country club and one for everyone else. And if ur not a member you are treated second class. They resolved the broken heater situation by giving my a space heater ( which I did not use cause I had a 4 year old and 2 year old in my room) and extra blankets.. I understand heaters break.. but the fact I couldn’t be place in another room was not right

Granted, we stayed here at the end of February, so the experience was not the full warm vacation, but these rooms are dark. A bit of lighting to be able to read and a rug under one's feet would have helped. A throw blanket? This place feels dated although the old buildings are kept pristine by an ever-present, kind staff - grounds and housekeeping. There is a pool, but no hot tub. DVDs to borrow from front desk are not current and there is no on-demand option. A cup of coffee for room, but real coffee with cream is a walk. Beach is fantastic; I'm sure it is quite enjoyable when one can sit outside.

We really enjoyed our stay at LaJolla Beach and Tennis Club. The staff was both helpful and friendly. The view from the beachfront room was amazing and we would stay in this hotel again!

The property is guard gated, beautifully landscaped-maintained, near good restaurants and overall better than expected. Tennis courts were in great condition. Would definitely stay there again.

This hotel is awesome!! Has it's own private beach, perfect for a romantic setting. The rooms are very comfortable, maybe a little outdated but very relaxing.

the hotel is located in the best place in town, we stayed in one bedroom beach fron suite and we heared the waves all night, best thing ever.. the people wo worked at the beac and the tennis guides were perfect. Its not cheap but its a very easy to fall in love with the place we loved it

Nice Beach Location, 1st class service, large rooms. just the rooms are a bit old, good experience overall

Room was clean but building is definitely from 1935. Has that old musty smell. Staff are really friendly. Location is awesome is you want to walk out of your room onto the beach.

Excellent location and tennis facilities. Family couldn't have been any happier on the beach.

The La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club is a perfect experience for the tennis and beach lover. The private beach is a treat and the tennis energy is as good as any in the United States. The rooms are dated, but they are very comfortable, with all the amenities that one would need on a beach vacation.

We get to our room and I will say I was very disappointed. The room was very small, holding a queen sized bed and a twin and the bathroom was super small--by far the smallest hotel bathroom I have seen. The carpeting was old and the walls were paper thin, we could hear the conversation our neighbors were having. Not to mention there was a nasty smell--it just was old and musty and definitely in need of some renovation. But the thing that really did it for me was finding a dead cockroach near my bed. We were too tired to go back to the front desk, so we slept with the lights on! The next day we had gone on a road trip to Palm Springs and came back very late again and tired after hiking in the mountains. The maids had come and made our beds, changed the trash liners, and gave us fresh towels. So it was an utter surprise when we found a live cockroach in one of the trashcans that had a new bag in it. I pulled out the trash bag with the roach and took it to the front desk. The reason I am giving them 4 stars is a combination of things. Firstly, I want to say they were very accommodating when I brought the roach to the desk and they put us in the 2nd best suite they had off the beach. It was a $1600 a night room, though I didn't think it was worth that much it was nice, and we were happy to have beach views without having to pay the price. It had 2 bedrooms, 2 large full bathrooms with skylights, a full kitchen, dining room and living room. Each room had a window view of the beach. Though it was the middle of the night, we were a bit annoyed and freaked out that the door had been left open when we got there. So we go back to the desk and they called a security guard to come check out the suite and make sure nobody was in there. We were clear and he was very nice, giving us recommendations about activities, places to see, and gave us history on the hotel. The only other SNAFU was the dirty kitchen towel that was never changed out by the maids, otherwise we had no issues in our new room. The hotel itself is very nice, it is open and airy cause I suppose they have near perfect weather there daily. Nice swimming pool area with a jacuzzi. The landscaping and gardens were immaculate with a palm tree lined road, there were golf and tennis courts that were kept nice and a small playground next to a big pond with a fountain and tons of ducks and geese. There was a very upscale restaurant attached to the hotel with big window views of the beach. Unfortunately, we did not get to eat there cause they were doing renovations, but we went to their sister hotel next door and ate at The Shores restaurant, which had window views of the public beach. The real gem of this hotel is the private beach, which covered a fairly large area. There were red stone walkways that were off the beach where people would sit and gaze at the view or partake in the little whirlpool. The staff kept the walkways amazingly clean, they had towel stands, beach chairs and colorful umbrellas. We were there on Memorial Day weekend, and though it got busy at the public beach on the other side, the private beach was relatively calm and uncrowded in comparison. Overall, though we ended up with a good experience and the staff was great I can't say if I came back I would want to stay in anything similar to the first room that we had--especially not for the price we paid. But anything better would not fit my budget. I recommend it alone for the private beach, the staff, and the beautiful grounds. Hopefully, when coming here you don't plan on staying in the room for too long...get out and enjoy that scenery, weather and the use of that awesome private beach!
