It was okay

Drink options and menu was fine. They were pet friendly. Parking was pricey at a public garage across the street. They transferred us due to maintenance in the first room. The staff interrupted as they forgot to refill the soaps. The second room blanket smelt horrible. The lady in the breakfast / terrace area was rude. Going to think twice before I stay here again.

The entire place was nice. Kind of pricey, but its close to the beach and its a very nice tourist spot. The lobby has snacks and treats, which is very nice. The room was nice and the bed was comfortable. My issue is with the less than helpful (at least to us) staff on duty for the night shift. We were informed at the desk that there is a 25 dollar a night charge for parking. Parking is across the street in a building that you have to download a code for to get in and out. The person at the front was more interested in socializing with some guy. We were apparently an inconvenience. (we checked in at 7ish pm). I did let the person know my experience and she said she would make sure someone knew about it. The parking situation is less than fantastic but the rest of the stay was great. We did not get to try the on site restaurant but it was certainly hopping and people sounded like they were having a blast. I got a pretty decent discount on the room using this site, but I can't imagine paying regular price, so if I decided to come back, I will be using Expedia again.

Nice hotel, good location - only a short walk to the ocean front. Breakfast buffet was good. I would give a 4 or 5 except for the poor parking arrangement. It is very difficult to get the parking booked through the hotel. We had to try multiple credit cards before it worked and a lot of time was wasted. Then when we wanted to leave on a Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m., we could not enter the parking structure. The key card would not work, and both entrances were locked. So we decided to try the driveway and thankfully, the gate was not closed. Although pedestrians are not supposed to walk in the road way, it was the only way to get to the car.

Hotel was overall nice but I do have two big bites so I’m wondering if they have bed bugs. The soap was SO SCENTED that it irritated my skin and that is my main complaint otherwise it was nice. As long as they didn’t give me bed bugs I’m alright. Will update my review if I got bed bugs.

Swim trip to La Jolla

Solo traveler. In town for the annual La Jolla Cove open water swim races. The Empress is about 10 minutes walk to the cove but significantly less expensive then the hotels next the cove. The place is nice and well kept. The only thing that wasn't above average was the breakfast as it was so so.

Coast nearby

Nice stay. The parking garage and expense was a hassle. I arrived early and was greeted with an early checkin fee so my wife and I decided to wait before checking in to save $30. I felt like it was going to the add on expenses that you get in Las Vegas resorts. Are stay was nice. Rooms are a little dated but being near the coast somewhat to be expected.
