We was in kuching with friends and sister from Australia. It was good to stay this hotel but have internet connection problem few times and they come to fixed at room. We are happy. We did not try breakfast in this hotel because we were so busy meeting with our friends.
We really like to visit Kuching and have stayed in a number of hotels in the city over the years including the Merdeka Palace (2000 and 2006). The road outside the hotel has got busier over the years (to be expected?) and the room we had was looking dated. We were never the less pleased to be upgraded to the room we had. The hotel staff were all very pleasant and very helpful throughout our 9 night stay.
I have stayed at this hotel at least 3 times in the last 15 years, sad to say times have not been too good to it. The good things are still there, the staff are excellent, always happy and keen to help, but the furnishings, wall paint, apartment rooms are decidedly badly run down. The carpets are badly stained in places and hoovering doesn’t seem to be an option daily. I was surprised to be told that we would have to pay an extra RM10.00 for another pillow, we have been given only 3 between 2 of us, needless to say we refused that and requested another pillow for free, which we got. We had to ask for hand towels, plate and glasses as none had been provided. The WIFI was really slow and at the first hint of rain it stopped working. The buffet breakfast for RM22.00 was good value for money even if it was a tad lacking in freshness...EG the fresh fruit compote appeared to have been made a considerable time ago and the fruit was mush, the pancakes were not properly cooked, but all in all it was quite a good breakfast. I didn’t try the swimming pool as the water looked a tad murky plus a number of people appeared to be full dressed swimming in it and that did cause me some concerns , I would hope that the new owners would provide a few more of the profits to clean the place up and try to restore it to its former cleanliness and brightness.
It’s a great experience I’ll tell you that. the food... damn, it’s delicious. you don’t need to drop a sweat finding sarawak signature food because they will serve you every single sarawak dishes at breakfast. besides that, there is a decent swimming pool and well equipped gymnasium. highly recommend it.
Stayed here with my extended family for my brothers engagement. We rented one 3-bed apt, two 2-bed apts and a deluxe room. Pros - view from one of the 2-bed apts was great, saw the NYE fireworks with a front row seat in the “living room”. Cons - 3 bed apt looked like something out of the exorcist. Wallpaper peeling off throughout, mold on the walls, fridge that didn’t work propped up by a ball of newspaper on one of the legs, mold on the sideboard along the floor. We asked for a different room and they changed it. The replacement room was better cosmetically but smaller, came with only 3 towels (room slept 5), water would pool up from the drains after using the sink/tub and water smelled bad, mold in the bathroom (could have been removed by just giving it a thorough clean). I’m appalled that they even attempted to give us the first room. The 2-bed apts were just ok, had the same problem of water pooling in the bathrooms coming up from the drains and smelled bad. Mold in bathrooms too. We asked for an extra pillow and were told it would cost RM10. Deluxe room had a toilet that would not flush properly. Asked the maintenance to fix it, they did, however the problem returned after the 2nd night. Asked the receptionist to send someone, nobody came. Had to just deal with the anxiety of flushing the toilet 6-7 times before it was clear. Bathroom had mold on tiles and floor. Shower smelled awful when the water was running. Tiny ants near the kettle. Stains on the carpet. This hotel only deserves a 2 star rating at most. I wouldn’t mind if it was just run down and outdated. The lack of proper cleaning and upkeep is despicable. Housekeeping staff need to be taught how to clean rooms and bathrooms properly. Long story short, do not stay here if you care about basic hygiene. Trip advisor should not recommend this hotel.
Hotel is close to the new Hanna Bridge and waterfront. We booked a 3 bedroom suite. Its very huge for 5 of us. Staff are friendly. Hotel is old. Found some unknown things on the carpet. You need to call housekeeping for them do deliver the refrigerator.toilet was leaking and we called the plumber a few times. Overall good for the price paid.
Stayed at this hotel with family over the weekend for the first time. Read review first before booking and must say most are pretty accurate in terms of dated furniture and poor room condition requiring fixing up. Walls are pretty thin so you can hear the noise from below despite staying at the top level and noise from neighbouring rooms. Had to call reception one time to complain about neighbouring room noise as people were partying at 4 am. Thankfully, they took immediate action to get security to intervene. Bed are not comfortable and pillows are too soft. Even comforter were old and ragged, ours had holes and were torn. Even after requesting to change bedsheet, only bedsheet were changed but the old ragged comforter remained. Room had cigarette smoke smell. Carpet were stained. Toilet hose needs fixing as it tends to drip water. Breakfast was also mediocre in terms of taste. Swimming pool is small and always full. Noticed that this hotel mostly patrons local families looking for a weekend getaway. However, despite the cons, need to acknowledge a few positives such as the good customer service, large rooms and central location to shops. That's it. Overall verdict, i wouldnt stay here again as a tourist as i would prefer to be able to sleep comfortably without the noise interuption.
For work or short stay, i recommended this place. Near to shopping complex. Area full with uber. Easy to going to city centre. Room i stayed not equip with bathtub. Cozy .. room bigger.. Anyway nice hotel.
very grand lobby area and friendly staff but overall quality of the room is average. furnitures and bed are old but fair enough to catch a snooze before an early morning meeting/appointment the next day. walking distance to a mall so that is a plus point.
Please do not book this hotel for your stay in Kuching. I can guarantee it will be a disappointment. 1) Bedroom has ants everywhere on the walls 2) Beds even have ants crawling all over the sheets 3) Toilet flush doesn't work 4) Broken and old furniture in the room 5) Pillow (only 1 pillow provided) was dirty and stained with pen ink and other stains. Absolutely disgusting. 6) No plug-points by the bed side 7) Terrible service from the staff 8) Toilet is dirty and something's are broken. 9) Wifi connectivity is poor. Almost non existent.
