The reasons why no start shld be given: 1) not maintained at all - carpet with stain and smelly 2) housekeeping very rude - shld give them training how to speak to customers 3) reception informed me my wifi is spoilt, and don't want to admit theirs is not working 4) one of the lift was not working and we have to waited 15 mins to go up to our floor 5) no replacement of towel and said that no clean towel is available , and the worst part they took the existing one also...
This hotel located in front of Padang merdeka, closed to kuching waterfront and indian market. This hotel was dated but I like the classy interior design and location. There are facility such as swimming pool with jacuzzi, gym and children playground
Came to know that Hotel is under new management when I arrived & check-in. I'm staying on a 3 rooms apartment. Free parking for hotel guest at their multi-storey car park, convenient to those who are driving.Located at the center of Kuching, and lots of famous food stall nearby. Room is spacious although it looks quite rundown. Staff are friendly and helpful.
Whilst I did not expect much this hotel, I am shocked with the rudeness of its front liners. Our room was located next to the ballroom which happen to hosts a wedding dinner. We had sleepless night as they partied till 1am! I queried the lady receptionist, which then answered me rudely saying they are allowed to party till 2am! Is this a norm in Kuching??? And if so, the hotel should consider placing ballrooms faraway from guest rooms!! This is totally unacceptable and no money could ever compensate the inconvenience we had to go through. Also, please teach your front liners some manners. We will definitely not set foot here again, nor recommend anyone to do so.
Generally Im not a very particular type of person of facilities in the hotel. Im travelling a lot and this my first time stay in this hotel. First, the mattress was old, lumpy like a cheap mattress. I even can hear the cricking sound from the spring... I got a backache and requested tge housekeeping to replace with new bed however they didnt come with a solution... Then, the second nightmare that the internet connection is limited to 2 registered devices only. This is not acceptable as myself visit there for business. And I just wonder from where they been rated 4 star hotel. The 3 star hotel that I regularly stay here provide with excellent service than here..... So.. So.. Dissapointed.... Kind of shame!
Initially booked a three bedroom apartment for our party of five - was a bit uncertain whether this would prove to be the right decision after reading reviews. The apartment on 13th floor had great views over the city, and was very spacious and comfortable, but shabby and in need of refurbishment. The staff were very efficient, helpful and friendly. Wasn't a problem to leave luggage with them in storage. Breakfast was RM22 - obviously easy to buy food elsewhere for less, but for the buffet style hotel option, we found plenty of variety, dishes were replenished during the course of service, and varied from day to day, with eggs and noodle dishes cooked fresh to order. Again staff were friendly and welcoming. Returned later on our trip, this time with just four, so we had a two bedroomed apartment on 18th floor - again very spacious and great views, but this had been refurbished and was much newer and brighter than the first one we stayed in, a very big improvement. Wifi was fine in the room, as well as in public areas. Apartment had kettle, microwave, fridge and basic crockery, so good for making drinks. Also a safe, ironing board and iron, hairdryer, tv, etc. The location is very convenient for Chinatown/India Street/Plaza Merdeka shopping mall and Sarawak Museum, and only a short walk down to the waterfront and Main Bazaar area. There is a fitness centre, pool, etc, which I looked at - seemed okay, but cannot comment further as we didn't use it!
This hotel is terrible. Dated decor, dead bugs in room, excessive mould in bathroom, toilet didn't flush, sweat stains on couch and dirty sheets. Night Manager and receptionists very unfriendly and not interested in resolving any issues. Stay somewhere else
Had a disappointing stay at a two-apartment suite at this hotel recently. I was travelling with my family and my sister. The room was clean and spacious enough but the conditions of the suite left a lot to be desired. The wallpaper was peeling in several spots, the sofa was in need of replacement, beds were lumpy with broken springs, kitchenette was without any utensils or plates, TV sets were small and ancient, staff were slow to respond - you get the picture. This used to be one of the top hotels in Kuching so it was sad to see it like this now. The only good thing about this hotel is its location. Will not stay here again.
Stay in hotel Room 326, outside of hotel looks good but don't be fooled by the outside looks with the marketing pics online as its not as real as the actual room. Nothing wrong with the classic choices but please invest for clean new blanket/pillow, furniture & facilities. Its shocked the hotel wasn't improve at all even clients review about the run down facilities since 2015! The night shift receptionist need to upgrade their 'customer service oriented'. In order to keep up with the others competitive hotels its not hurts to invest for hotel future profit. The only good thing is great location! Won't stay next time though.😂 sorry...
10 years ago this hotel used to be a glamourous, highly talked about hotel in Kuching city. With Victoria Arms being one of the best hangout places in the city. Stayed at the apartments once or twice. Then 10 years later in 2017, I had a group of friends from around the world coming over for a visit. Looked for an apartment. This was not my first choice but I had to pick Merdeka Palace as it was the only one available. I thought this hotel is still maintaining its standard. To my disappointment upon check in, the apartment looked rundown. Peeled wallpapers, threadbare carpet with mold, 80's tv set, a kitchen with no plates nor cutleries etc. The lobby looked deceivingly outstanding!! I asked for a room change and yes the staff were accomodating and gave me another room which was much better. The pool was filled with people who jumped in fully clothes!! The good points, the hotel was clean. The towels need changing though. To the management, invest in renovating the hotel. It was a great place back in the days. Your customers will appreciate it much! You have great staff who were accomodating. Treat them well and make them proud to work for Merdeka Palace by changing your carpets, upgrade your furnitures etc. You have thr best location in town. As for the pool, do you even clean them? They are hundreds of people fully clothed swimming in the small pool. Don't you have swimwear rule at all?? Until there are some upgrades I will not recommend this place to anyone!
