We chose to stay one night dinner, bed breakfast for our wedding Anniversary. Room was clean, modern with lovely bathroom and very comfy bed. Food was of good quality at dinner and breakfast made with good quality products, although not really hot enough. Very pricey bar drinks and a small fortune for a bottle of wine with dinner! However, that's ok and expected at hotels of good standard. The hotel caters for weddings, parties etc so can be very busy. So if your there as a couple don't expect a quiet corner to relax in! You can't begrudge a place for being busy. But party guests can be allover the place with small children and not necessarily in the room allocated for their function. As I said the food at dinner was good and we were pleasantly looked after. We did eat in the atmosphere of a school playground though! The hotel needs to recognise that they have guests who are not part of their mass bookings at weekends and manage these areas better.
Food was the issue, or lack of it. The deal included cocktails and sharing platter, movies and popcorn. Requested for 7:00, nothing by 7:30 and no answer from reception. Went to restaurant in person. Had the desired effect as food arrived by 8:00 but we were ravenous by then. It was clearly a communication breakdown and they tried hard to make it all better but it need not have happened. Room was lovely and was well appointed. Spa: Good sized pool, sauna and steam room adequate. Outdoor tub and sun loungers lovely if it's warm. Under Manchester Airport approach route so can be noisy. Treatments excellent value for money.
We stayed in a Signature room - comfortable but fairly small bed. I would have expected King size for a more expensive room. The main problem was no shelves and only 2 small bedside drawers. 8 hangers provided but 2 used for towelling gowns. One cupboard which could have had shelves instead had a trouser press and ironing board. There could have been a drawer unit under the table - there was enough space. Pretty poor for a 4* hotel. The bathroom was very nice with a separate walk in shower. The Spa area was very good - a good size pool which was wider than the usual hotel pools so plenty of room for doing lengths. The gym was a little cramped but had good machines. The food was rather hit and miss. An OK buffet breakfast, but fried eggs had been standing for a long time and were very hard and rubbery. Croissants looked as though they had seen better days, there were no rolls but there were toasters making fresh toast. Had 3 dinners. Some dishes e.g. Sea bass and Lamb cutlet were very good but the ravioli was hard, tasteless and almost inedible. The staff were very pleasant and friendly. There are very interesting places to visit nearby e.g Quarry Bank (an old water powered cotton mill), Tatton Park and Jodrell Bank. It may be worth considering if you can get a special deal but not worth paying their normal rates.
I've had the pleasure of staying at Cottons Hotel & Spa a number of times now, and I'm thankfully never ever disappointed!! The rooms are spacious and extremely clean, and the beds are really, really comfortable too. The one thing that I love is that they provide fresh milk in the fridge, rather than the UHT rubbish that you find in most hotels nowadays. It's a nice touch, so please don't every change it. The staff are extremely attentive, especially one tallish young chap who served us at dinner. Sadly/stupidly I didn't get his name, but he hadn't been at Cottons that long. He was lovely! One other thing that I have to mention is the food at Cottons, as it's truly outstanding!! I had their fabulous tempura prawns to start with followed by T-bone steak. Both of which were absolutely delicious - especially the steak!! I would highly recommend anyone dining there. Thank you to everyone once again for looking after us so well!!
Was really looking forward to my stay at Cottons as this hotel had been recommended and it's not cheap. On arrival my sister and I ordered tea and cake of the day at the hotels' bar area. We got the tea and waited for the cake to arrive....and waited ..and waited ..and asked three times before it arrived. We went out for the evening and came back to a very nice room and comfy beds but the waiting game started again at breakfast. I have NEVER had to queue to get into a restaurant in an hotel. There were loads of empty tables available.Eventually, we were allowed into the restaurant which was self-service buffet style unless you wanted the hot food and then the queuing started again. The hot food counter was serviced, had it not been serviced there would have been no queue. There was no salt and pepper on any table so we had to ask, and yes you guessed it! we waited... and waited.. The management need a swift kick up the rear and get off their backside and do what they are supposed to do OR put an apron on and help with the lack of staff, who I must add did their best.
We stayed at Cottons last weekend as there was a family wedding nearby. We had one of the signature rooms which was very nice and we made full use of the spa and gym facilities which were much better than we usually find in hotels. Shame there was nowhere online to see photographs of any of the facilities before we arrived. We ordered a light lunch in the restaurant on arrival but it took almost an hour to appear (just sandwiches and one starter of risotto). The risotto came up without the parmasan crisp and when I mentioned it the chef sent his apologies BUT NO PARMASAN CRISP EVER APPEARED. If our rooms were made up on the Sunday morning we were unaware of it. We left the room tidy and when we got back in the afternoon it looked as if a 3 year old had made the bed (or my husband). The breakfasts were self service but there wasn't any bread in the baskets next to the toaster, no plates to be seen, the Danish pastry basket was empty. Considering it is a spa hotel the only options were a few sugar based cereals, tinned fruit and flavour yoghurts. No fresh fruit, no cheese, no hard boiled eggs, no cold meats, no smoked salmon, no tomatoes, just a few things on a menu to order but nothing to eat if you are trying to have a healthy weekend. Also no salads on offer in the main restaurant. The self service salad bar had been cleared away by the time we got to the restaurant at 1.15pm. The super gym, pool, whirlpool and relaxation spaces were wonderful but the apathetic service in the restaurant and the make-up service did spoil the show.
Stayed 2 nights for a family wedding. Food for the wedding was good. The night previous to the wedding we ate in the restaurant along with some of the fmaily and friends (total 8 adults) We were seated at 7.30p.m and it was 8.45p.m before we received our food. Several of us had the fish and chips with mushy peas. The peas were more like lumpy pea soup and there we only a small amount of chips, very disappointing. Breakfast was good but depending on the time there were substantial queues for the hot food. On the second morning we had finished breakfast before our coffee arrived, we had to ask 3 times before we received it.
Cottons hotel and Spa is a modern hotel with great facilities, a good Pool, steam room sauna and relaxation area. I did not try the Spa treatments but for me the pool was well managed and gave plenty of space for me to swim properly while children could play in the other area. The rooms are pretty standard for this type of hotel but very clean and comfortable, the bar was well stocked with very helpful, friendly and attentive staff. Good breakfast with choice of cooked and continental options available. All the staff were great, very friendly and helpful with a cheery smile and actively asked if they could help throughout the hotel and leisure area. The other advantage to this hotel is that it is a five minute drive into Knutsford, probably just too far to walk, with its wonderful choice of restaurants, if you are not into eating in the hotel you will not be short of options. Finally as anyone who reads my notes you will know that the Towels show how well run the hotel is.....Cottons in line with its name did not disappoint, the towels in the room and the swimming pool were very good. Once again it shows that good towels reflects a good hotel. I had a very good stay, shame it was too short but for a business stay near Manchester very close to the M6 motorway and main route into Manchester this is a great option.
We stayed in a twin bed room which was well laid out, beds were extremely comfortable and clean. We didn't use the spa facilities but did look around and they looked very good. The food was good and the service excellent, staff in all departments were polite and helpful, nothing too much trouble. We went to Tatton Flower Show and this hotel was very near to Tatton Park.
Recently enjoyed a short but excellent stay in a very modern and clean room. The spa facilities were just what we needed after a long drive and we were greeted with smiles everywhere we went. The staff were fantastic as was the dinner and breakfast. The manager was also especially attentive to all our needs throughout our stay
