Consider yourself lucky if you ever have the opportunity to enjoy a small piece of paradise. You'll never come across a more accommodating host/homeowner. Those with pets and/or children will appreciate being a short walking distance from things like mini golf or the sound side if you like calmer waters. Those like my wife will love that there is a Dunkin's just a 3 minute drive away, with several restaurants not much further. If you or any loved ones have never seen a light house, there's one less than an hour away. So consider adding it to the list of special sights to encounter during your visit. I'll personally admit the only downside to this serene location and environment is you can't stay forever.

This property was absolutely perfect for us and our dog. The location was great and the private deck and fenced back yard were an added bonus. Our dog was very happy with that! The room was extremely clean and comfortable. Jeanne-Marie is an excellent host and was extremely pleasant and helpful with suggestions as to restaurants and things to do. Will certainly stay here again on our next visit to OBX.

Great find for peaceful getaway with pup

This was an excellent find for a relaxed, one week getaway to the OBX for me and my medium-sized dog. The house is located in a quiet neighborhood very close to the sound so we had wonderful sunset walks along a multi-use path. It was very convenient to go to Jockey's Ridge State Park, Nags Head Woods, or the Wright Brothers Memorial for a few hours of adventure with the dog and then come back for a little downtime at the beach. Jeanne Marie is a welcoming host – responsive to questions and provided great suggestions for restaurants all within 5-20 min (Salt Box Cafe is a must). The shaded deck and large backyard expanded the compact, indoor living space. The deck was perfect for enjoying coffee or a drink and watching the pup run around the securely fenced backyard (a real bonus for a hovering pet parent). The bedroom and bath were tasteful and very clean but no closet. There is a spacious mini fridge with a separate freezer for saving that ice cream that I just couldn't finish. The host kindly provided some starter coffee until I could go to the nearby Publix. All in all, this was a very comfortable and peaceful place to stay which I would definitely book again.

Clean and comfortable!

We enjoyed our short stay at Jeanne-Marie’s property. We got to chat with Jeanne-Marie for a bit before heading out and she was very sweet! We appreciated the water bottles, only wish that coffee was provided for the coffee maker, but that’s not a big deal. The area is very nice and we got to check out the Wright Brothers museum which is nearby!

Great location, perfect getaway

We had never been to the Outer Banks, and our stay at this little Kill Devil Hills room was a great home base for us to explore from. The room is small but updated and with everything you need. The balcony access on the second floor was perfect for lounging in mornings and evenings. And it was so great to have access to Jeanne-Marie's backyard for our pup to frolic in when he wanted a bit more room. Jeanne-Marie provided the best recommendations -- we visited three of her suggested restaurants and took a stroll on the path along the sound, as she highly recommended, which was beautiful at sunset. She was super responsive when we had questions, too, and it was nice to know she was easy to reach. As we were driving home, my husband said he'd happily stay here again if we return!

Perfect Beach Getaway for Couples & Their Furry Friends!

This trip was absolutely perfect—a 10/10 experience! I highly recommend this property to anyone seeking a peaceful beach retreat, especially couples traveling with a dog. The property is beautifully maintained, clean, and thoughtfully designed. It’s an ideal getaway for those who want to relax and unwind in a serene setting. The porch was our favorite spot, surrounded by well-kept plants—it felt like our own little oasis. We spent hours enjoying the quiet, peaceful atmosphere there. Our dog, Bentley, was in heaven! He loved lounging on the porch, playing in the spacious, fenced backyard, and taking long walks along the beach. The property is not only perfect for pets but also offers plenty of cozy spots for couples to relax. The host was incredibly responsive, making sure we had everything we needed and offering excellent recommendations for local activities. As avid runners, we appreciated the scenic sound path nearby, where we ran every day. Each evening, we took Bentley to watch the sunset at one of the many water access points—a perfect way to end the day. This trip was truly wonderful, and we can’t wait to return.

quick weekend getaway

We were able to take our newly adopted Doxie to the beach for her first visit. The property was super comfortable and clean, great neighborhood with walking trails, convenient location and has a great host! I would definitely recommend this property!

While we were comfortable overall, I would suggest an extra blanket because it was quite cool in the room and we were not able to adjust the thermostat. Also, the outside stairwell was super dark at night, a light would have been helpful. A hair dryer and soap for the shower would have been great too. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay.

I loved this beautiful neighborhood, it had a lovely walking path near the sound, and quiet wallable streets within the neighborhood itself. It was so close to nice coffee shops and within minutes driving to the beach. It was the perfect size for us and my dog loved exploring and relaxing on the deck. Jeanne-Marie was easily reachable and very kind in giving us suggestions. What a quiet, peaceful stay.

We had a great weekend!

The place was very clean, with a lot of character. Pay attention to the listing, it's really just a room and bathroom with no kitchen facilities. But it's meticulously tended and very comfortable. The lovely, shaded private deck makes up for the lack of living space in nice weather (which we had). Location is great - a bit of a hike to the ocean beach, but a short drive to public beach access with parking if that's more your speed. Jeanne Marie was a terrific host, and we would definitely do it again!

Great location!

This efficiency was perfect for me and my dog. The room was very clean and had all the essentials. I really appreciated the private deck with lots of room to sit and the fenced in yard. The host was very friendly and offered several suggestions for how to best access the beach and bay walkway.

Quiet and convenient, dog friendly!

I stayed for three nights, with a medium-sized dog. The location is convenient, the room is small, but has everything that you need, including a desk and mini-fridge. The bathroom is clean and updated/spa-like decor. The porch/deck is large and comfy. The fenced yard is a great bonus. Would be nice: a microwave to heat up restaurant leftovers, a ceiling fan on the deck/porch for when there isn’t a good breeze, replace carpet with vinyl. Would definitely stay again.

Nice 2nd floor room with fenced in yard for our dogs

The property was exactly as described in the listing. Centrally located in Kill Devil Hills. This was the first time vacationing with our two dogs and it was perfect for them. The Hostess was wonderful we enjoyed our stay.

Peace and Quiet

I have not had a vacation in 20 years and have a very hectic lifestyle. This was a birthday present to myself. I wanted to be near things as the efficiency did not have a kitchen but did not want to be around people. I took my dogs and just wanted a relaxing time. There was a book kiosk in the neighborhood and I thoroughly enjoyed that as well as the walking/bike path along the bay. I must have gone at the perfect time as there wasn't any real traffic early in the morning and just a small amount of people in the afternoon. This was perfect for me. One day took the dogs to Hatteras and walked the beach. Smooth drive. Just what I needed for my getaway.
