I reserved a king bed and they did not have one for me. I had to argue about that I paid for a king therefore I should get a King bed. They did not offer any compensation either. The staff wasn’t very friendly one helping. I will not book with Barceló again. They tried to upscale us on the premium access and stuck us on the lowest floor next to the club and the restaurant. It was very noisy as well.

LOVE IT! Everyone was very polite, food was awesome. First time there but will not be he last. I truly recommend this place for your next vacations, so much to do 1 week was not enough. The shows at the hotel were fantastic. For sure made us feel welcome and at home.

Nice hotel, friendly staff but terrible food except for the Italian restaurant and room service. They also ran out of towels.

Loved the view, loved the room. Evening buffet was questionable.

The shower didn’t drain...over flowed water into bathroom. Room next door under construction. Difficult to get reservations for decent restaurants. Pool area full. Paid for oremiun all-inclusive but they still wanted to change $12/day WiFi and $20 for a pool towel. Had to wait in line a long time to check in. Room keys died once a day. Had to wait in line for new ones. Had to wait in line to make meal reservations, etc. a lot of wasted time rather than relaxing. Breakfast buffet was amazing. Itialian restaurant was great food and great service. So wasn’t all bad. Good location. Apeople were nice.

The high light of this stay is the wonderful personnel that just don't stop until you are happy. You have options all day to great tasting food. The shows are a plus. we are already planning a return trip..... :) :( too bad they don't have a good WI-FI system but, then again you go on holiday to disconnect from the rest of the world..

Overall the hotel and the staff met our expectations, very good food and service. On the negative side WiFi should have been included in the price like most hotels chains. The restaurant Veranda due to the heat and humidity should have some ventilation fans installed.

Overall we were very pleased. However, we feel there could have been more choices of food. Also, the adult pool had many children in it on the weekend, and the parents did not control their behavior. The parents were too busy getting more drinks for themselves at the pool bar. Some of the kids were obnoxious and the parents could not care less. There are no signs posted adults only, and the guests that come in on the weekend go right to that pool with their kids.Also there should be more daytime games at poolside.

My wife and I travelled to Ixtapa and wanted a comfortable stay and the opportunity to know more about the culture of Mexico. We got more than we hoped for, excellent food and drinks, friendly and courteous service, and great entertainment. The hotel is located at one of the best spots at El Palmar Beach if you want to get in the ocean. We highly recommend this place., this place deserves all stars it has and more !

Stayed 11 days in Feb. 2014. Hotel location and beach are #1. Rooms need to be updated a bit. Our ac worked fine, our friend ac did not. The rooms are showing their age. Food is average. O K for 3-4 days. Service in Don Coyote was good 1 nite and very bad another nite. Service of dining waiters and pool waiters is not great. Staff did not make much effort to create any personal relationships. Steak House food and service was very good. I think a bit overpriced for value recieved. Could be a great hotel with better food and better service and a little updating.

That is how we are greeted whenever we return to this hotel. We have been staying @ the Barcelona for many years. The accommodations are great. But what really makes this place is the staff. They always go above and beyond to make your stay a positive one.

Our group goes to Ixtapa every year. this is our 4th year. Last year we stayed at another hotel but this year came back to Barceló and we are so glad we did!! Staff, food all was great. Went out to eat at wonderful places also: franks and the general our favorites.

Beach has strong current...would want something calmer if we brought the kids. Hotel is nice but we had hoped for a little more food variety. Buffets seemed to have about the same thing every day. One of the two swim-up bars was not open a few days during the week. Pools close at 7PM. Shows at the hotel were ok...performers were very talented but shows could have been better. Location in Ixtapa was excellent. Within walking distance to shops and restaurants...15 minute bus ride to Zihuatanejo. Fabulous weather the entire time! Staff was very nice and very helpful.

We stayed at the Barceló Ixtapa Beach for 2 weeks from January 24-Feb. 7. Though an OLDER hotel, we loved it. We had a room on the 11th floor w/ a fantastic ocean view. The room had pillow top beds, large shower with a rain showerhead, small balcony, small safe in the closet , flat-screen TV, plenty of large bath sheets each day. (I heard that the hotel rooms are gradually being renovated so maybe we lucked out in that sense). The room was kept immaculate the entire time. Each day the maid left us some kind of animal towel art. The food, mostly buffet, was excellent and had good variety each day. There are also 3 a-la-carte restaurants --Spanish, steak and seafood and sushi--for which one needed advance reservations. If someone could not find something they liked to eat among the many choices, then they are way to fussy. The food did get a bit monotonous after 2 weeks but we went across the street and into the town of "Z" to eat a few times to provide variety. Though this hotel, like most in Ixtapa now, is all-inclusive, eating out is very inexpensive and helps contribute to the well-being of the Mexican people who live there. There are 5 pools at the hotel--1 for adults only w/ a swim-up bar, 3 for families, and 1 with a cute slide for very small children. There were plenty of lounge chairs around the pools and in the sand on the beach facing the ocean. All of the staff at the hotel were very friendly and hard working, from the desk staff to the people working in the restaurants and those cleaning and maintaining the public areas, and the grounds. We did notice that the total number of staff had been greatly reduced since we were last at this hotel. The slow economy has obviously affected this area as the hotel was not full by any means. Every night there is excellent entertainment provided in the hotel's special theatre right on the property. We have stayed at other Barceló hotels around Mexico and have loved them all which is why we keep booking at this hotel chain. Best of all-- the weather here is FANTASTIC every single day, and, along with the awesome beach, are the main reasons we keep coming back to IXTAPA.

We love this hotel - we gone with friends two years in a row now! The location is perfect, right on the beach, and several swimming pools to choose from. My husband enjoys the fishing and parasailing. I enjoy shopping. The cuzine is endless and so much variety, our fav is the Characol Grill... quick to serve and everything so delicious. The staff is always very nice and accommodating.

This hotel needs a few things to keep customers coming back: 1) Better food selection 2) Better room service 3) Friendly front desk Staff
