We arrived at Skala Hotel having not got off to the best of starts to a holiday, we had not realized that Ios is a small Island North of Santorini rather than on the island itself! However, it turned out to be a fantastic "mistake" to make, I probably wouldn't have bothered to book had I realized you needed a ferry to get there and gone somewhere more direct, but, that's what makes Ios so very special, especially off season, you have to make a little effort to get there but the result is so very worth it! Skala is owned and ran by Kyriacos and his family, a more pleasant, helpful, courteous and hard-working family you would struggle to find. Nothing was too much trouble, breakfast was excellent with a fantastic view to take in whilst eating. The room was clean, spacious with incredible views of the town below, sunrise and sunset here is an unforgettably beautiful experience. The rooms were cleaned daily, clean towels daily and bedding changed every other day, the hotel itself appears to mimic a Greek street in terms of layout, each room has their own area to sit and relax outside, the layout gives a very communal feel with the other guests. Whilst rated as only two stars on LoveHolidays (with whom we booked) it was apparent from some other guests staying with us who clearly had the means to stay wherever they chose that Skala is very special and well worth seeking out especially given the prices. Skala isn't a huge 5 star Hotel complex with staff seeing to your every desire, it isn't right next to the beach, its on a very steep hill also despite this, you'll struggle to find a better view in Greece never mind on Ios, friendlier owners and staff. Whilst we stumbled upon Skala almost by accident, it is no accident that we plan to return many more times to this exquisite place.
We stayed here for 6 nights it was the end of the ‘Season’ so we had the pool and hotel pretty much to ourselves The rooms are typically Greek but spotlessly clean. Sheets changed every other day, fresh towels daily. The views from the hotel are stunning along with the sunsets but would urge you to hire a car and get around this beautiful clean island with beaches that are amazing
Came back yesterday from Ios and the fabulous Skala Hotel. We booked this as a last minute deal, travelling around 5 days after we booked, and we got a really good deal. We flew to Santorini and then had to get a ferry to the island of Ios, which we had never heard of before to be honest. When we got off the ferry (about a 45 min trip) we were collected, along with another 2 holiday makers, by the owner so there was no need to get a taxi) On the way to the accommodation he pointed out various sites of interest and told us about the island in general. We went to Reception and waited for the other holidaymakers to check in. The owner (Kyriacos) then told me we had a slight problem, however this was minor and was sorted out with a room change after one night as promised and all was ok. The Hotel is like a mini Greek Street with various styles of accommodation, each only 2 storeys high, all beautiful to look at with flowers and decorative pots outside. The most stunning part of this Hotel, and it really IS stunning, is the view. The hotel is high on a hill (bit of a struggle walking back to the Hotel in the heat, but there is a taxi rank close to the supermarket which only costs 6 euros and takes minutes). I could have literally just sat on the wall at the Hotel and watched the view for hours, it is really that beautiful. The view is of the village below and shows all the white and blue houses and churches, really stunning. The Hotel is an ideal place to just relax and chill out.
just got back from spending four nights here, what a lovely hotel, run by a lovely family! we were picked up from the port and given a guided trip back to the hotel. the views are spectacular! unfortunately on our first night we were disturbed by the selfish people in the room next door, but one word with the manager and we were moved to another room! no problem, what great service! lovely pool area, clean with very comfy loungers, which served the best strawberry mango daiquiris ever! the pool also has a built in jacuzzi! a visit to their restaurant the mills is a must! delicious food and fantastic service. would definitely love to visit again!
This is by far the best hotel we’ve stayed at in Greece (even stayed at 4 stars in the past). I’m not sure if it was the location, facilities or the friendliest owners who made it such an unforgettable experience for us. I’ve included a picture of the view from out room and it’s worth way more than 1000 words 😊 The room was extremely spacious, beautifully decorated and the cleaning standard is impeccable. You can tell it’s a family-run business by how smoothly things run around there. I also took advantage of the spa facilities and treated myself to a shiatsu massage. I can tell you hands down one of the best massages I ever got! The girl is so professional and has the cutest, beautifully decorated spa. I definitely recommend 1000%!!!!!! All in all we are so still so impressed by how perfect our holiday is! Thank you to Kiriakos and his family for making this experience unforgettable. You will definitely see us again soon 😅 Catalina and Stefan UK
Best views best room best food and nicest family love the dogs too will be back in September mill restaurant has so many good choices you have to go back again and again good cheap home made wine from the barrel
Hotel was practically empty, just the way i like it nice and quite. Room was a breath of fresh air, esp coming in from piraeus, where my room felt claustrophobic. Rooms were clean, spacious and shower was very unique without a shower door, but interesting set up. Owner was very accommodating and does free shuttle service to and from the port. There's even a huge friendly dog who's always looking for someone to play with him. Breakfast was good, might have to pay a little extra if you want extra food. Views were off the hook, excellent. Beautiful quiet place, with great staff. I want to return with my family.
Best service and best views in IOS. The hotel was great with everything we needed pool wifi etc. They also own a restaurant down the road where we had one of our best meals in Greece. The location is great to walk into town or a 20min walk to the beach.
I had a truly lovely stay here at Skala hotel- while a little high up from the beach, what made up for it was the breathtaking views of the island at night right from our balcony. Very big, clean, spacious rooms & the family who run the hotel are all SO friendly & welcoming. We loved it so much, we even extended our stay. No complaints whatsoever, I’d love to stay here again one day.
We always love staying at Skala every time we visit Ios! The hospitality of the owner, Kiriakos and his family are out of this world. All the rooms are always kept clean. Love watching the sunsets and views from the pool. The location of the hotel is just outside the village. Close enough to walk to the village in one direction and a little further walk (if you'd like) to one of the main beaches in the other direction. I wouldn't think of staying anywhere else! Everyone in Ios loves Kyriakos and their family. They grew up in Ios and they have pride. They are also the owners of the Mills, which has fantastic cuisine and atmosphere. Reading through the reviews from one of the others, it appears that they didn't read the booking site thoroughly where they indicate that there are hotels close to Santorini available on other islands such as Ios. They also apparently arrived just as the tourist season opened and the pool was not ready yet. I understand being disappointed, but no reason to write up such a bad review, because Skala is a great place to stay and the owners will receive you with open arms and do whatever it takes to make you feel welcome.
