Room check in must be 4pm on dot not a moment to soon. Staff friendly and hotel room clean. Rather small bathroom for a 6ft plus westerner. Difficult to dry yourself in. Bed a little too soft, that would be ok if the pillow was thicker than 4cm. Great location! And very affordable. Not sure if I could sleep on pillow for too many nights thought.
Great location close to the station. Staff were very friendly. Easy walk to Himeji-jo (Himeji Castle). Main room was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was awful, the worst we had in a hotel in Japan by a long way. It had obviously been left out for a while without being refreshed and had very little a vegetarian could eat. The bathroom in our room also desperately needed to be renovated, it was dated and had some mould in the corners. One of the beds in the room had a terrible mattress with springs digging through.
Very conveniently located and within walking distance from the train station. We arrived prior to check-in, and the staff was helpful in storing our luggage so we could begin our sightseeing. Within walking distance to the beautiful Himeji Castle and adjacent Koko-en Garden. It was raining and the temperature was quickly dropping when we arrived. Fortunately, there are covered gallerias that stretch from across the train station almost to the Himeji Castle, which have wonderful trinket stores, eateries and shores. I had forgotten it was raining as we spent much time strolling the stores. Our hotel room was modest, very clean and what I would consider "standard" for Japan with the multipurpose modular bathrooms. So efficient - love it! There was a nice touch with yukata and a beautiful origami crane carefully placed on our bed. The breakfast buffet was included in our room, and I so enjoy Japanese-style breakfast. The food was lightly seasoned, clean and simply delicious. If I return to Himeji, I would return to the APA and would also consider their properties in other cities.
The location is good about 10 minutes walk from Himeji station. Situated in a good locality with market nearby with lots of places to have food. The hotel only serves breakfast for Yen 1000. The rooms are definitely small in keeping with Japanese standards. Very neat and clean, they provide all basic necessities including toiletries. The toilets are very neat and clean. Wifi is good and one can connect as many devices you have. Staff is very courteous, typical of Japan culture. Language could be an issue as many of them barely speak English. TV provides only limited channels, mainly Japanese with BBC translated into Japanese. If you are looking good budget hotel, then APA chain in Japan in very good and apt.
We were very disappointed by this hotel and would not recommend it. We are a couple of Europeans and had booked a room for one nigh. The room and bathroom turned out to be very small. The bed was 140 cm large and all rooms has the same bed of bad quality. Not worth its money ! Asking for two glasses was impossible they only had one , A late check out was flatly refused!.....unfriendly staff
Having counted on APA Hotel many times in past for quality hotel rooms this was beyond a disappointment. Left un-rested and feeling dirty and swindled out of my money. Hotel invested money in shiny lobby but hasn't invested a cent in updates or cleaning of room in what seems like decades. Stains on every wall, carpet and mattress and odour in room. Would recommend avoiding unless confirmed renovated room first. APA should send Managers to this hotel immediately to bring it up to their usual standard.
This is an adequate business/tourist hotel. You pay for the location in downtown Himeji, with very easy access to the famous castle. Not sure how old the place is but it badly needs a facelift and an overhaul of the rooms. The mattress was poor. Staff were friendly, as always in Japan. Room cleaning staff forgot to check the clock radio and the alarm went off in the very early morning. Seemed a bit expensive for what you were getting. But not bad.
Good experience for overnight stay and this place is located near Himeji station and bus station, room was clean, very near in shopping store, restaurants and tourist spots. And several tourist spots was very near.
- We were a group of 10 and checked-in the hotel in the evening of 6Nov 2016. The male staff at reception got frustrated when he was not able to manage the check-in of our bookings of 6rooms (1twin, 3double & 2singles). His face turned black, impolite & rude when talking to us. He threw the guest registration forms in front of us; using the end of the pen to point and told us to fill in. We did not expect such kind of bad attitude from such a popular hotel chain in Japan. He even gave us the wrong information when we asked about car parking issues. The whole experience was so bad. - Fittings in the rooms were a bit old and need refurnishing, eg. the door of toilet was somewhat broken, many stains on the bathtub and basin, etc. Stains were found on towels too. - Location of hotel is good with easy access to restaurants, convenience stores, dept stores, and JR station. There are also many car parks nearby.
On November 12th 2016, I had booked a group of 6 people to stay at the APA Himeji via Booking.com On the day of the booking one of the group was unable to stay at the hotel, so one room was cancelled via Booking.com confirmation of the remains rooms was received via email as usually from Booking.com When the group arrived at the hotel at 10pm on No. 12th, they were promptly told by the staff that today's booking had been cancelled and no rooms were available. upon learning this I ask to speak to the manager, a Mr. Hanate. Mr. Hanate informed me that Booking.com had called and cancelled all the rooms early that day, and that there was nothing he could do about it, telling us to contact Booking.com customer service. I reiterated that I had an email from Booking.com stating that I had 4 rooms at his hotel, and that one of our group members was pregnant. I felt he fobbed me off, as all to often happens when companies deal with foreigners in Japan. Upon contacting Booking.com I was informed by a very calm and collected customer service member that they had made no such contact with the hotel, and they had cancelled only one room. They even had our booking data on their file system. Upon learning this I called the APA Hotel Mr. Hanate once more, but was fobbed off by the front desk, saying he was busy with another customer, and I should call back later, (bearing in mind there is a group of 5 people waiting for their hotel rooms all the time this is going on). Finally at 11pm, I was able to get in touch with Mr. hamate at the APA Hotel Himeji via my customer's cellphone, I was informed they had found another hotel for the customers, two twin rooms, and one Japanese family type room in another hotel over 10 kms away. The hotel then mentioned they had booked taxi's for the group, at which point I had to tell them they would be paying for the taxi too AND from Himeji station. Mr. Hanate relented to my request and a taxi was arranged. I hated being stonewalled by the manager of a hotel as if I was stupid, or lying about the booking I had made. His or his his staff's incompetence caused 5 people, (one a pregnant lady) to have to wait for over 1 hour while Mt. hamate and his team realised how incompetent they were, and upon finally realising they had made the mistake, the wheels started moving. Total lack of care, incomtenece in booking rooms, (the main job of a hotel), and over lack of customer empathy. I will not be staying at another APA hotel anywhere ever again.
