Dormy Inn Himeji Natural Hot Spring3.0 out of 5.0

I've given the Dormy Inn a very good rating. That doesn't mean it is a luxury hotel. It just means it achieves its goal of being a bargain hotel very well. Rooms are clean, though modestly sized (like everything in Japan). Very well priced. If you're looking for a good value hotel and not too worried about luxury, Dormy fits the bill. It is only a couple of minute walk from the main JR station, though on the side opposite from the Castle.
Hotel was good value for money and despite the tiny rooms there were nice touches including the pyjamas provided. Not sure if they were meant for people going to the Onsen (which we didn't do due to tattoos) but it seemed most people wore them to breakfast, both cute and funny! the room was the smallest we had in Japan and the bed up against the wall was difficult, not much room for getting ready but it was comfortable and very quiet. Breakfast was basic, very Japanese, don't expect cereal or toast here. Would I stay again? Probably not, pay a bit more for something more spacious but won't knock the value for money.
Great location in walking distance to the train station and castle. The rooms are small, but clean and tidy. The single rooms don't seem to have their own bathrooms, but they do have private toilets. We did not have time to check out the onsen on the top floor.
We found the hotel very easily within a 5 minute walk of the station. A very typical respectful Japanese welcome with everything explained. Liked the free coffee available in the reception area during the afternoon. The room was very small, again as they often are in Japan but this was so small you couldn't really function with nowhere to place even a small case. I was glad that we were only staying the one night. The main problem were the noises from the corridor, no insulation meant we heard every passing conversation plus the wind tunnel affect from the closed window to under the door that whistled through the room no matter what we did and the beeping of the people crossing just outside the hotel. On the plus side - the breakfast was very impressive & it was unusual to see guests wearing the hotel slippers & pyjamas sitting eating their breakfast. We didn't use the onsen on the 12th floor which is open from evening & through the night. There are plenty of hotels in this area which may have better sound insulation & bigger rooms.
There is a Japanese style spa on the top of the building that is amazing. They have an outside pool where you can sit in the warm water while looking at the night sky. The spa is really clean and they provide you with all the necessities in there. The room is clean and comfortable. The hotel is just a few minutes walk from the train station and approximately 20 min walk from the castle. There are some great restaurants in the vicinity.
Rooms are small, sober. Some furnitures are getting old but nothing very important, the maintenance is great (bathroom). Calm. The onsen (hot baths) are great (on the top floor, outside bath), very authentic and clean. The breakfast is good, good variety of dishes. Lacking of fruits or freshly squeezed juices.
When we first arrived at the Dormy Inn we were really pleased with our booking here, it's got everything you need and more. One bonus is free washing machines, still have to do laundry unfortunately. The bedroom is not large but big enough no problem but the bathroom and toilet area is much bigger than normal so swings and round abouts. Would stay here again for sure, located only 5 min walk from the train station. Friendly staff and spring water baths top it off.
Smallish room as is in Japan, friendly front desk & breakfast people. Had free noodles in the evening at the restaurant. Did not use but has a onsen, washers & dryers, drinks machine. Can walk to the station & beyond to Himeji Castle nice stroll on a fine day, very clean city.
Well priced . Great stay . Quiet but with good facilities. Near to railway station Southside exit. Lots of restaurants round about . Next door to convenience store . A huge plus in a hotel . Rooms well sized .
Dormy Inn was very surprising in the level of amenities if not the size of the room. It was MUCH better than the APA hotel we stayed in Kyoto and with the additional bonus of having a hot spring, sign us up! The hotel offered free noodles at 9:30 pm to all it's guests and it was a nice little amenity in this train station hotel. It's just steps away from the JR station, the staff were attentive, very modern, convenient location with clean comfortable beds. Don't expect a huge suite because you will be disappointed. We learned to adjust our expectations and our travel habits as a result. We can now take multi-week trips to Japan with only a carry on sized roller bag.
