The staff were very professional and extremely helpful during our 9 night stay. Excellent location very close to Himeji Shinkansen Station, shops and restaurants. Easy walking distance to Himeji Castle. Excellent wifi connection. Free noodle supper for hotel guests in evening. My wife loved the Pola toiletries. Japanese and Western buffet breakfast superb! The room was very small but the Japanese average, every space maximised. Only one tiny pillow for each person which resulted in discomfort at times and one towel rail for two towels. The laundry was inside the hot springs bath house so very inconvenient to use.
Stayed for one night, comfortable room, all amenities, onsen is very good, clean and well cared for. Only quibble was the internet was very poor and kept dropping out. Otherwise happy to recommend this hotel.
Very good location, 5 minutes to Himeji train station. Fantastic onsen, complimentary noodle soup in the evening and coffe to go in the reception. Room was small but elegant. Breakfasts are delicious!
I stayed her for 6 nights - the first 4 by myself and then my husband joined me. The room was great for one person and fine for 2. It is efficiently laid out and the bed was comfortable. There is a fridge in the room and there was a microwave on my floor so I could make my own breakfast and snacks. I eat gluten free so had not taken the package that included the hotel breakfast, but i could have - they had eggs and fruit every morning. and the evening noodles were a great touch for those who can eat them. The pajamas in the room made for a nice robe or as something to wear up to the onsen. I was a little shy to go in the onsen at first, but after a day of walking and hiking I mustered the courage. Read the instructions and follow the rules and you will be fine. The ladies onsen requires a code to get in that changes daily. There is an indoor and outdoor hot tub, a sauna and an indoor cold tub. It was wonderful. The hotel is about a 5 minute walk from the train station. there's a Family Mart convenience store on the way and I think there was a 7-11 just up the street (there are 2 in the train station as well). A very clever touch that more hotels should use - you have to put your key in the master light switch of the room for all but the entranceway light to work. This way you have to turn the lights off when you leave! You can also control most of the lights and the climate control system from the bed. The curtains made the room totally dark - no light seeping through. My room was totally quiet as well. There is a washer and dryer in the onsen - you might need help interpreting the instructions though:) I would recommend this hotel unreservedly.
We arrived in Himeji at the JR station and were at the Dormy in less than 10 minutes by walking. This is a fine hotel for a night. Our double room was very compact as well as the bath, but overall, it was fine for a night. The double bed was comfortable, the ac worked very well, a quiet sleep was assured. We did go to the rooftop onsen, and this was the best part of the hotel. The men's onsen consisted of a changing room and the indoor onsen consisted of 2 pools, one large very hot one plus a cold plunge pool; the outside onsen was a large heated pool surrounded by rocks and plants. There also was a nice dry sauna. Breakfast was average, very limited assortment for western tastes, to include yogurt, some fresh fruit, fried eggs, French toast and juice. Overall, for the money, the Dormy is a good value and again the best going for it is its location and the onsen.
So after a long journey I was looking for a good value hotel near the station and within reasonable walking distance of the castle. And that's exactly what I got! The Dormy Inn is in a great location on one side of the station, and when we walked through to the other side, there was Himeji beckoning us from the end of the street! The room was spotless, quiet, amazing value, and we had the cute little onsen to ourselves. Perfect!
I've given the Dormy Inn a very good rating. That doesn't mean it is a luxury hotel. It just means it achieves its goal of being a bargain hotel very well. Rooms are clean, though modestly sized (like everything in Japan). Very well priced. If you're looking for a good value hotel and not too worried about luxury, Dormy fits the bill. It is only a couple of minute walk from the main JR station, though on the side opposite from the Castle.
Hotel was good value for money and despite the tiny rooms there were nice touches including the pyjamas provided. Not sure if they were meant for people going to the Onsen (which we didn't do due to tattoos) but it seemed most people wore them to breakfast, both cute and funny! the room was the smallest we had in Japan and the bed up against the wall was difficult, not much room for getting ready but it was comfortable and very quiet. Breakfast was basic, very Japanese, don't expect cereal or toast here. Would I stay again? Probably not, pay a bit more for something more spacious but won't knock the value for money.
Great location in walking distance to the train station and castle. The rooms are small, but clean and tidy. The single rooms don't seem to have their own bathrooms, but they do have private toilets. We did not have time to check out the onsen on the top floor.
We found the hotel very easily within a 5 minute walk of the station. A very typical respectful Japanese welcome with everything explained. Liked the free coffee available in the reception area during the afternoon. The room was very small, again as they often are in Japan but this was so small you couldn't really function with nowhere to place even a small case. I was glad that we were only staying the one night. The main problem were the noises from the corridor, no insulation meant we heard every passing conversation plus the wind tunnel affect from the closed window to under the door that whistled through the room no matter what we did and the beeping of the people crossing just outside the hotel. On the plus side - the breakfast was very impressive & it was unusual to see guests wearing the hotel slippers & pyjamas sitting eating their breakfast. We didn't use the onsen on the 12th floor which is open from evening & through the night. There are plenty of hotels in this area which may have better sound insulation & bigger rooms.
