We had our first holiday here at the end of May, great location, very close to all the great bars, shops and eateries of Piskopiano, Koutoulafari and Old Hersonnisus. Could easily have spent the whole time between these tree and the hotel. Suite was great and wonderfully quiet at night. We got to see eagles circling whilst sitting on the balcony. The staff were lovely and made a real contribution to a great holiday. Special shout out to Kim and Nikos, and even more so to the staff who found our passports when we were at the airport and got a very speedy taxi to get them to us for our return flight! The taxi driver was proud he’d made it in 19mins and we were VERY relieved and grateful. The bar was a great way to share some craic with others. The walk down into the village was very short, yes, it is a bit steep, but nothing untoward. Would happily recommend this, the friendly feel made it stand out.
Arrived on 14th May, was in room A6 just out the back of reception/ bar. I was worried initially about the noise, but I needn't have bothered, as once the door was shut you could hear very little. Room was big with separate living area, with all mod cons Inc toaster, kettle and hairdryer. FREE air con FREE breakfast (Inc in our price) FREE towels for pool FREE replacement of toilet rolls, all these a bonus when in Greece, as aircon alone is €7 a day! Staff were lovely, helpful and nothing was too much trouble, special shout out to Nikos the barman, who was a star and even bought us an anniversary present! The location for us was superb but could be very difficult for those with young children, elderly, or if you have walking/breathing problems. When you are dropped of by bus sign reads Amazones 150m this is not accurate as my hubby measured it and it's actually 350m, we kept thinking we had passed hotel. We loved our stay, and would go back tomorrow! Thank you to everyone x
We booked the Amazones village Suites via Jet 2 BUT were informed the night before we were due to fly that our Suite was double booked . Double Booked and let down by this hotel. Not a good start but a happy ending due to the Villa Esperides and Jet 2 offering us an UPGRADE to the honeymoon suite and Half board (from B& B) It was all happy days there after. The Villa Esperides has been refurbished to a Very high standard and has a better Location close to minimarket ,bars and restaurants in Koutouloufari. Thanks too Villa Esperides and Jet 2 a happy ending. Still not happy with Amazones Village. Look at all the review's at these village locations and various hotels Double Booking is a big issue. GET IT SORTED.
Another fantastic stay at Amazones Village Suites. Staff amazing as usual. Perfect location above hersonissos with great views. (Not ideal for anyone with walking issues) great choice of restaurants, tavernas and gift shops nearby. Apartments are modern, clean and spacious. Pool area is lovely with magnificent views. Will definitely return
Excellent staff and clean accommodation, although this is more 3 star than 4 star accommodation. Plenty of good restaurants and bars within 5 to 15 minutes walk, so go bed and breakfast and evening meals are nice but very limited in offer, especially for kids. Also, this hotel is in Piskapiano NOT Koutalafari as advertised. Both are lovely villages. 20 minutes walk downhill into Heronissos and around 30minutes walk to nearest beach, Star Beach, which is good for families.
Great elevated setting leading to fabulous views. Ideally situated within easy walking distance of many excellent tavernas hence would only recommend bed and breakfast here, so much choice around it would be a shame to miss out. Nice pool area, well kept but be careful what you take to eat/drink there only items purchased on premises alllowed. Great staff team here do a fabulous job looking after you. Gardens very pretty and well looked after. We booked a sea view apartment which was a little disappointing, the view was obscured by the roofs in front. and a half finished building near us.The apartment itself was a good size however the bathroom was shabby in places due to previous water damage and we found the bed uncomfortable even by Greek standards. Asked for a mattress topper but nothing available. In my view the best apartments were the partial sea view right at the top of the complex, these also got the late sun on the balcony. We had a great holiday here and really enjoyed it however I would rate as a three star not four.
Back for a third visit, this time in May, weather was great, a bit cooler in the evenings at the beginning of the week but just needed a wrap. Every year we have met lovely people and made some great friends, this must be due to the atmosphere and environment. As always, George, Nikos, Kim, Anna & Daria made us feel so welcome, we enjoyed every day and can't wait to come back to this lovely, friendly and extremely relaxing hotel.
We had a great stay here. The staff was very welcoming and very helpful. We booked a junior suit and we were glad we got upgraded to a large suit. Our apartment was clean and as expected. It was a nice sea view. They also had a swimming pool side to relax and enjoy sun. The breakfast area had both indoor and outdoor option. Overall we were glad we stayed here.
Just back from a five day stay at this hotel and had a wonderful time. We were full board and the food lovely. Breakfast was buffet style and enjoyable, lunch was delicious and we chose from the a la carte menu. Dinner was a main course and dessert and we enjoyed every one. Although we did not arrive at the hotel until around 1a.m. Nicko was there to give us a friendly welcome and had kept us dinner which he brought to our room and we heated in the microwave and enjoyed with the complimentary water and wine! Additionally we had been a free upgrade and had a room in the hotel which was lovely. Nothing was ever too much trouble for the staff, George the Manager was on hand to help with checking in for our return trip home and printed the boarding passes for us. Kim who served us lunch and worked at the bar always had a friendly face, helping us with any queries we had. I would go as far as to say the Staff made our holiday. Although my husband and I were out most evenings, any time we were in the hotel or returned to the hotel we were given a warm welcome and felt like part of a big family. With so many places to see and hotels to visit, it is unusual for me to say I will be back but we will definitely be back to stay at the Amazones, for sitting out eating lunch high on the hill with a spectacular view of the sea and Hersonisis was unbeatable.
We booked through Expedia, their agent, but were ripped off. Starting with : Location- it's on a hill top, which means far from the town centre or shopping areas. Involves some steep walking and climbing stairs hence elderly people/disabled people please avoid. Its 20 -30 minutes walk down to the high street, but about 1.30 hours to walk back to the hotel.... That's tiring and exhaustive too. A local taxi ride costs €7 for 4-5 passengers to the hotel. So if you're a family, or even a couple, it's convenient and cheap. There are no local buses available at or near the hotel. From the Heraklion airport a taxi costs €25 to the hotel, located in piskipiona region of Crete. The view from the hill top hotel Amazon village is marvellous. We opted for a full sea view junior suite named E2. If you are a nature lover go for this suite, to watch the sunrise and moonrise from the ocean. You can marvel at the beautiful starlit sky at night or experience the city view, and the emerald green Mediterranean (photos attached) Cleanliness is quite good. Food: we were greatly disappointed. Serves standard breakfast... Toast, butter, jam, tomatoes, Greek yogurt and some eggs or tinned fruits. Lunch is usually the same to select from a set menu. Dinner is one starter, one main dish and some cakes.... The cakes /pastries left over from dinner were again laid on the breakfast table the following morning. Try to go for bed and breakfast only... There are many restaurants and hotels down town, serving hot food and various ice creams. Hence Food could be graded as 4 out of 10. It's a small hotel hence cannot stand upto our expectations. Strange part is- drinking water was not provided. Our own water was prohibited in the dining area..which was ridiculous indeed. They insisted that we purchase from the hotel, that was double the rates. Crete is very big, boasting beautiful beaches. ... If you are a sea lover, there are many lovely beach hotels. Amazon is a 2 km walk to the sea. We made a wrong choice of accommodation, which was not worth the money paid.
