This is one of the closest places to stay to visit the volcano and I admit that I havde a timeshare there. But the resident manager does everything she can to make the place not welcoming to kids. The only thing there for them to do besides the Black Sand Beach is the pool and she bans all toys of any kind. Not the way to grow a place that needs all teh growth help it can get. Try to discuss this with her and she jusat blows you off and walks away. Don't know where she got her management training from but I would guess another well know "leader". The resident group needs to get rid of her if the resort is to survive. Other than her, it is a very relaxing place to visit and the closeness to the volcano is great.
It is very gorgeous property! It is pro for us that it is remote from everything and we could kick back and relax. We had unit 67 - studio though our timeshare. It was good enough space vise for two people. Our patio was very cozy and was facing garden and wall with no windows of other building. That was first thing we noticed - hey no one will be looking in our windows . Privacy , privacy! Check in is at 4 pm , but office closes at 5 pm. If you are late they do have late check in system , no worries! One thing is their landscaping crew does start working 8 am :) we are very happy with our stay!
This was my first trip to Hawaii so I opted to do a timeshare exchange. This review is for the units used as timeshares and not for the private rentals by owners. I stayed in unit #6 and was very pleased with it. It was spacious and very clean. As a single female traveller, I felt very safe in my unit. The view from my balcony was beautiful. The staff was very helpful...especially John, who was able to secure a ride for me into Hilo so that I could pick up a rental car. Furnishings were comfortable although typical styling for timeshare condos. All in all, I'd stay there again.
We checked in at 11:00 am on day of arrival. They ask for a $50 deposit (never heard of this policy at ANY hotel). The studio condo (Unit 34) was very nice and clean. There are signs everywhere in the condo (i.e. what towel to use to take off your makeup, do not remove the dish washing liquid soap container from the kitchen, and inventory sheet of utensils, plates, etc) which really takes away from an enjoyable experience. I thought an inventory sheet is used for the housekeeping staff but it is used for the guest...this is the first! It's as if you are a child at a school with rules and policies to follow so it is difficult to relax and enjoy yourself. Pros: Punalu'u Black Sand Beach is about a 10 minute walk from the condo. There are nice amenities like the pool and hot tub. You can use the Barbecue Grill at the pool until about 8;30 p.m. The condo comes with a small kitchen so you can buy food and prepare meals in your condo. Cons: My son and his friend were kicked out of the pool area at 8:30 p.m. even though the pool was open until 9:00 p.m. Two managers (one manager named John and another female manager) told my son "Do you even belong here?", What room are you in?". This treatment of my son and his friend was totally unacceptable and ruined our vacation time. My son and his friend were registered guests. This would have never happened at another hotel in Kona or Hilo! Also landscaping crew started to use weed whackers and leaf blowers at 8:00 a.m the next morning! They even cut the bushes in our lanai and at the entrance to our condo! The noise in the morning is unbelievable...you can't get any peace until the late afternoon since the staff is busy landscaping and cleaning. It doesn't matter if you are in the room or not. Also it gets very hot even with the fans blowing at full speed in this unit (no air conditioning). The managers should be trained in etiquette when it comes to communicating with guests. Throwing out registered guests from the pool is unacceptable! The pool has no lock and anyone can go into the pool area. They should put a room key lock on the gate at the entrance of the pool. Wear house slippers because your feet will get dirty (they don't mop the tile floor in unit #34). There are no restaurants or grocery stores in the area so you have to drive to Pahala to buy food and drive to Naalehu to dine out. To make your trip more pleasant you should buy food in Kailua-Kona or in Hilo. Informed Front Desk Manager about the incidents that we encountered during our stay but have a feeling that nothing will be done. Front Desk Manager didn't even apologize for incidents that we let her know about during our stay. She just said that she will look into it. Oh...don't forget to wear house slippers in the condo because they don't mop the floors so your feet will get dirty. The location is near Punalu'u Black Sand Beach in Ka'u.
This is a beautiful resort by a black sand beach. I would love to stay at this resort. They have a gorgeous golf course. They have luscious greenery and wild birds. It's just one of the most beautiful areas I've seen. There are also green sea turtles that come ashore and let their shells harden, for protection against the sharks, their natural predator.
A beautiful Resort tucked off the beaten track with stunning views of the rugged coast, within walking distance from Black Sands Beach where sea turtles can be observed coming, resting and going. This resort is so clean with a staff par none. Exceptional friendly ground attendants that take pride in their wonderful resort and the amenities they provide. The pool, hot tub, barbecue station is family friendly, clean and a complete joy with the stunning views. The golf course is right off the resort property and can supply all your golfing needs. From this resort you can take a quick drive to the city of Hilo for all your grocery needs and has a most wonderful organic store and a open market with restaurants that will cater to your cravings. Our 7 year old daughter had the time of her life, and wishes we soon go back. The resort offers luxurious suites fully self contained for your comfort. A must see is the Volcano National Park, Two Steps Beach - snorkeling heaven. Do not forget to visit the Panalu'u Bake Shop a close drive from the resort in Naalehu - awesome sweet breads. This became a daily trip to appease our sweet cravings. My best take away from our stay at Sea Mountain Resort, was the serenity and quiet time I needed. Thank you Vacation International, you have again impressed us and look forward to seeing you again.
We stayed for six days in the relaxing spot that is away from all the typical vacation traffic. The view of the ocean from the pool is beautiful and it is located close to the beautiful Black Sands Beach. The units are not air conditioned, but the nights are cool enough to be comfortable and there is usually a breeze. We enjoyed the stay.
We were very happy with our 3 night stay here. We arrived a couple of hours early and they let us check in, so that we could enjoy the whole afternoon at Volcano NP. The Black Sand Beach is a 5 minute walk from the condos where we found Green sea turtles? Our lanai overlooked the lush, green golf course and ocean. Very relaxing to sit and enjoy the view after a busy day.
We had a great stay here. We were lucky to get one of the units with a fabulous view of the water, and also of the pool. The unit was very spacious and comfortable. The only odd thing was that the TV was on one wall and the sofa was quite far away, attached to the Murphy Bed, so it couldn't be moved. We had to sit on the dining chairs to watch the TV. We really enjoyed Sea Mountain. The downside is that it really is a long way from anything else.
If you book through timeshare(1/2 of resort) you'll get a predictable experience. The other half are privately owned and rented through various pools. Some are updated some are not. Some are well equipped, some are not. We found place on Airbnb but upon making enquiry of manager, were told to book through their own website. Problem is, there is no feedback or review option si we booked based on 2 year old pictures with no user reviews. Dishwasher and clothes dryer were not working. Shower curtain fell down first day and couldn't be put back. Some of the screens to keep critters out were broken ( no critters however). But that was our experience. Many other units are completely different. Very nice grounds, good maintenance. Very friendly property maintenance guy but he says he's only responsible for outside. Roll your dice to book a unit with the interior that you expect!!
