After being let down last minute by Skylark, I contacted the Solent hotel extremely last minute to see if they could cater for a group afternoon tea. They did everything they could possibly do to make the experience fantastic regardless of the fact I contacted them so last minute. Tom and his staff were amazing - so professional and attentive. The afternoon tea was fresh and delicious, the hotel is also absolutely beautiful I could have stayed all day. Its been a long time since I have had such a nice experience at a hotel and would like to thank all the staff for being the icing on the cake. I just want to thank the Solent hotel for saving my birthday after being let down. I would highly, highly recommend and will be looking to book in for a spa experience as soon as possible!

We have stayed at the Solent fairly regularly over a large number of years although there has been a gap of a year since we were last there. There have been a number of changes - less choice at breakfast - although the introduction of "do it yourself toast" is good, meaning you can have it hot and it must cut down on waste. However the Monsoon shower and the Jacuzzi in the Spa area were both in need of repair and basically out of action - unless you want the equivalent of an ice bath with bubbles! The Spa didn't open until 10am on New Years Day - too late for those who would like to swim before breakfast which is after all part of the point of choosing a Hotel with facilities - next time we will probably go somewhere with no Spa for a lot less money and have just as good a time! In some areas the Hotel is also beginning to look in need of refurbishment/decoration. Come on Solent - you need to buck your ideas up otherwise our 30 years of continuous custom may need to be taken elsewhere.

We knew we were going to be late arriving on December 23rd having been to watch Andre Rieu at the Wembley Arena late on December 22nd. Advised hotel accordingly and booked dinner for 5 in their main restaurant for Boxing Day. On arrival had to wait 10 minutes for a night porter whilst noisy parties going on all around. The room (30) was dark and gloomy but clean and warm. On Boxing Day pool closed at 6.00 p.m. and Jacuzzi was cold. The Dinner was a carving buffet with many dishes getting cold by 8.00 p.m. when we dined. Salad was removed before we had the carved main course and we had to ask for it to be returned. Management were unapologetic and ttreated my complaints with disdain. AVOID.

Spent a wonderful day at the Spa having taken advantage of the winter retreat offer. Great deal with use of the pool, steam room, sauna and jacuzzi , a 25-minute taster treatment AND a scrumptious afternoon tea too. The salt and oil scrub was lovely and I recommend it. I would have gladly paid the additional £20 to extend the treatment to an hour had I have known that was on offer. Shame to have not been told and given that opportunity. I couldn't leave without purchasing the ESPA relaxing salt scrub- it’s that good! IMO The facilities are mediocre and having read some past reviews now I note that the same mechanical failures are still in place i.e. the monsoon shower was out of order and the indoor pool hot tub not functioning at the correct temperature (notice on chair before entrance saying it was 22c) It was a busy day and by late afternoon I had to leave the chaotic pool area to have peace and quiet in the relaxation room away from all the children. My party of 4 struggled to find loungers throughout the whole day. There simply isn't enough. I look forward to returning but will come during the week rather than at the weekend.

Had a meal in the main restaurant to celebrate a 13th birthday just before Christmas. Food was great. Nathan the restaurant manager on duty was amazing, made our daughters birthday really special and a day to remember!

Cold room that required two maintenance visits to fix to get it above 16 degree Pool is ok though. Restaurant is fair but bar prices are very high. Average hotel that I wouldn't visit again in winter.

It was a total pleasure to have our Christmas party at the Solent Hotel, as it has been liaising with Georgia, the events manager, over the past couple of months. Georgia has been a dream to work with, and it is the best to know that when I’ve had any questions or requests, I only had to ask her and knew with 100 per cent certainty that all would be organised and handled, and that’s extremely rare, I really can’t thank Georgia and her team enough. I’d also like to say that George and the team in the Hambledon were absolutely fantastic, so professional and friendly and nothing was too much trouble, again that makes the world of difference. The food was delicious, and piping hot, and all the extras just made our evening. Our whole party commented about it, and it was our best Christmas party by a long mile. I’d also like to say we had a great breakfast the following morning, and Tony could not have been more attentive and friendly. You really do have a wonderful team there that create a “home from home”’experience in a lovely, comfortable, warm and friendly setting. All who stayed also rated your rooms and extra touches very highly, and slept very comfortably. We will definitely be returning in 2018!

Today we visited the Solent Hotel & Spa for a Christmas meal but we also had a tour of the new Lodge section of the hotel and the Spa. Our meal was lovely and the staff were all friendly, courteous and professional throughout. The new Lodge (built since my last visit) refurbished Bar and hotel throughout were immaculate and I would certainly recommend a stay or meal for sure; a couple of us are likely to look into a spa treat too 😁

Firstly the staff were very good if some a little under trained. The room was pleasant enough until you started to look at the details, the coffee maker was a nice touch but it would have been better if the previous occupants coffee pods had been removed. The shower head was in need of a good de scaling and scrub. The champagne was nicely chilled and of a decent quality. The pillows were as flat as a pancake but the mattress was really firm which is how I like them. It was a bit late in the evening before we discovered the thin pillows so we never bothered trying to change them. The pool and Spa area now, the sauna was out of bounds as it was raining, OK. The shower beside the steam room wasn't working and although I reported this it didn't seem to register. The loungers and side tables are badly stained and in need of replacement. The bar and staff were quite nice for a pre dinner drink. We waited at the door to the restaurant for about five minutes before the server came to seat us, it turned out she was on her own for a while as other staff were either on a break or folding table cloths in the other part of the room. The main courses we had were sirloin steak medium rare and a burger. The steak was cooked medium and was a bit tough, this was pointed out and an apology was made, it wasn't the young servers fault though and she was trying to tend four other tables by this time, other staff appeared later. We chose a bottle of wine but unfortunately it was unavailable as they had been very busy, OK, we'll have that one then, nope unavailable as well, third time lucky then, each time increasing in price, funny old thing they had that one. The cheese board was very good and enough for two. We were seated right away for breakfast, which is set out buffet style and is put on the plate for you by a server, really nice guy who was very helpful. I just wish buffet breakfasts could be hotter than they are but that is a universal problem, not just this hotel. Overall we had paid a decent amount for a one night stay and I thought it was a bit of a let down as I wanted it to be spot on for my partners birthday. I don't think we'll bother again.

We visited for a complimentary Sunday dinner in late November. We were greeted by the restuarant manager, Nathan. He was very obilging and served us with complimentary prosseco and made us feel very welcome. Both our meals were great, really tasty and generous portions. I had chicken and my wife beef. I have to say having visited a year ago for Sunday dinner - this experience was so much better in every way. I believe it is good value for the quality of the food and service!
