We have enjoyed staying at this hotel on their special offer Autumn break for many years. It is extremely good value for money. The "Agister" room (No 9) was very comfortable and well serviced. The staff are polite and helpful. The facilities are good with an excellent indoor pool. The location is nicely quiet with an easy 10 minute walk into town. Lovely pub even closer to the left. The restaurant is pleasant and is described as "fine dining" which translates as small portions nicely cooked and presented. The wine list is varied enough but all are overpriced. Moderate priced wine does not exist here. Breakfast is standard but lacks choice eg. Smoked haddock or Kippers do not feature at all which is very disappointing. If you are able to try and avoid staying when large parties are here because service and quality in the restaurant suffers just like anywhere else.

Finding a dog friendly, family hotel that's also modern, comfortable and beautifully appointed is quite a challenge. But we found it here. When I say dog friendly I don't mean they tolerate dogs, they positively welcome them with treats and paw towels in the foyer, lovely, welcoming staff who are friendly and helpful, and a bar where dogs are welcome to snooze by the fire while the kids catch up on their phones and you can have a peaceful glass of wine. Our labradoodle doesn't moult or have that wet dog smell and I wondered if I might find the hotel had a kennel vibe but not the case. It's beautifully clean and doesn't smell dog like at all! The rooms are big with pleasing decor, there is a good sized indoor pool and a lovely, though quite pricey restaurant. It's November and the autumnal colours are out. It is a little bit of heaven.

Disappointed that location wasn't INSIDE the forest (within cattle grids). Reception staff not at all welcoming and didn't try to engage with our lively 3 yr old twins (although later on they were nicer). Lovely pool, great size room with lovely bunk beds for our children. Baby listening service was useful. Unfortunately breakfast took over 20mins to arrive and the portions were laughably tiny, especially when paying £350+ for a 2 night stay. At dinner we also felt the portions were stingy (one tablespoon of mashed potato). Liked water in rooms and powerful shower. We ate breakfast elsewhere on the second morning.

Such a friendly hotel in an ideal location for the new forest. Staff couldn't be more helpful, room very good facilities and spacious. Food excellent quality and choice with relaxed atmosphere, will certainly return.

My wife and I stayed for 4 nights earlier this week. The hotel is lovely and the staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. Our room was of a high standard and very comfortable. The food in the dining room was delicious with some different options not usually found in other hotels. Breakfast was excellent with a wide variety of different foods. I have not given 5 stars for 2 reasons. Firstly the service suffered on one night when there was a wedding function. Secondly although the food in the dining room was delicious it is set menu, the same every day. I feel there should be some daily specials on offer. Having said that we had a wonderful time and would definitely stay at this hotel again .

The Forest Lodge was exactly what we wanted. We'd checked the previous week, saw that the weather would be good and wanted a deal for 2 nights in a comfortable well located hotel. Booking directly on the hotel's site not only did we get a good price but the offer included a voucher per person towards the evening meal in the hotel restaurant. The hotel is only 5 minutes stroll from the High Street/New Forest Museum which means that you can do some of the walks (like the 8 mile Lyndhurst circular walk) with minimal effort. We found all staff to be friendly and helpful, the breakfasts and evening meals excellent in The Glasshouse Restaurant and the facilities somewhere between 'traditional' and 'boutique'. There is ample parking and you are only 15/20 minutes drive from most of the New Forest places of interest. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and thought it was great value for money.

We were driving around the new forest and surrounding areas iand were looking for a hotel when we got to Lyndhurst. Just popped in and booked on the spot. Nice staff on reception and in the restaurant. Very good room overlooking the garden. Very tasty breakfast - altogether everything was fine. Would highly recommend.

I visited the Forest Lodge Hotel last weekend with my best friend and our experience was a real mixed bag. On arrival we were met with a very warm welcome at reception and were provided with some good walking routes nearby. The room was clean but the hotel was quite noisy as they had a lot of dogs staying so in the morning whilst their owners were eating breakfast, the dogs were barking all at the same time so it did sound like we were next to a kennels at points! The dining experience at the Forest Lodge was again a mixed bag. On one day, the breakfast buffet was not stocked up for a long while and we had to chase up for everything (bread, butter, to be able to put in an order) but once the food arrived after quite a wait, it was to a good standard. It was just a bit frustrating as we wanted to get out and explore the area but we were waiting a long time. The evening meal was served in the same space as breakfast which is a bit lacking in atmosphere. I was told the glasshouse restaurant was not big enough to hold the number of guests apparently. Top tip - The pool is a decent size but changing rooms are quite cosy so wear your costume underneath your clothes to make it easier for you! Overall I would say this place has the makings of being good but it depends on the service levels you get when dining there. Not terrible but could be better given the price.

We stayed for the third time here and we have always loved it. Rooms lovely and clean, pool lovely, staff lovely, location amazing, food lovely. But on Saturday night we waited an hour and a half for three meals to be served in the bar!!!! The food is always really good but it took so long to arrive. The staff were great, explaining that there were only two chefs for the restaurant and the bar, and that somebody had not shown up for work again. We really felt for them since they were rushing about non-stop and so apologetic, but wow we were hungry by the time the food arrived! I think they may need a few more of the fantastic staff! Talking of fantastic staff, the lady on reception was great and very patient with our live-wire excited almost-four-year-old!!!

Hotel is charming, located in a lovely part of the New Forest. Our food was delicious and the wedding went very well. However, the hotel needs updating and more staff. They let us check in early which was helpful. Bed was comfortable.
