My husband and I stayed at the hotel for 2 nights for our friends weekend. I had dinner in the restaurant the friday night and we booked 3 courses for £20. At this price we thought excellent! The ham hock terrine starter was nice and a very large portion, bit unfortunately the sirloin steak was awful, I have never tasted such a tough piece of steak before. I was not the only one in the group who had steak who also said it was tough. The Saturday was the wedding for our friends, there was a woman who served all the canapes who moaned about not liking people surrounding her, she also did not acknowledge me at the bar as she was too busy talking to her colleagues. She clearly needs to look at another career option if she doesn't like crowds. Unfortunately the £255 we had paid for 2 nights was not what I expected. The room we stayed in was dated and unkept. There were cracks in the wall and the decor was dated. I did not expect this standard of room for the money we paid. When we checked out I mentioned the above to the receptionist who just said sorry. I would have been happy to receieve some sort of tiny refund as I thought the room was not worth the £255.
Lovely room in a hotel in a delightful location. The pub next door is an excellent alternative to the hotel restaurant if required. The hotel has a delightful, comfortable ambience. Friendly but not too casual.
We had one of the best rooms in the hotel itself so were not bothered by the trains if we had been in the rooms outside. Very clean and spacious. The food was excellent, the service could be improved by further training in awareness of guests needs.
Just spent a very enjoyable weekend here. The hotel is situated in a remote spot but the train station is next door, if you are not driving.Great place if you want to see ponies or donkeys as there is an abundance of them mooching around , the donkeys are very cute and friendly. The rooms might be a tad dated but the bed was mega comfy and there was a full size bath with shower, nice towels and toiletries. Breakfast was lovely, served in nice surroundings, and staff were very helpful. Good location. Highly recommend.
Visited the hotel as part of a package to Peppa Pig World. Hotel was perfect - clean and welcoming . The room was large and perfect for two adults and two children . The swimming pool and outdoor play area were great additions and much appreciated by a 4 and 3 year old . We ate in the pub attached to hotel which was very welcoming and great for children . The children;s menu was perfect . The location of the hotel was lovely - surrounded by ponies and other animals . Will visit again
I was wary after seeing some dodgy reviews...we had a triple room which was much bigger than expected with a large bathroom...staff were polite and helpful....pub next door was good with decent food and a good play area for the kids. Location was good either plenty of wildlife opposite. Bad bits....WiFi was a joke to the point where it was easier not to connect to it. Breakfast was good but no where near enough of it. Overall a good hotel a bit tired but it's not advertised a 5-star so don't expect it to be....it's great for a short time break
The hotel room in the main house was tired and felt more like a 1970s bed and breakfast room in Blackpool. The bathroom was small and the window did not effectively allow fresh air in the room. An air conditioner or freezer vent outside the window made a lot of noise. The dinner food was low quality and visually dull. A square slab of soft pate and a huge slice of bread! Breakfast was also poor and ridiculously small portions of scrambled egg ,looks like only half one egg was used ! Staff were largely disinterested in the guests and just going through the motions . This seems like a tired hotel in desperate need of a makeover. The annex rooms are meant to be better?
in the New Forest, brilliant location, restaurant overlooks areas with horses, cows etc lovely spot. very friendly welcome and very good and friendly service in restaurant food excellent at dinner and breakfast - very good quality, some really nice choices on menu
We all had a great relaxing break loved the food, the staff were very helpful and courteous at all times, the views from the hotel were out of this world, you can have a Lovely stroll before breakfast
Having just returned from a short break from this hotel, I have a mixed view on our experience. The hotel is beautifully located in the middle of the New Forest with unenclosed pasture land, heathland and forest as far as the eye can see. The fly in the ointment is the railway line less than 100 yards from the hotel which runs day and night, with trains running every 30 to 60 minutes your tranquil retreat doesn’t feel so tranquil anymore. The hotel is very comfortable and has a relaxed feel, the food is superb and most of the staff (but not all) are very accommodating. The swimming pool area was very neglected during our stay. It had not been tidied in 4 days with a 5ft mountain of used towels piled up against the wall, in addition to this the steam room was out of use for the entirety of our stay. The pool is no more than 7 meters long, of which 3 meters is far too shallow to swim in. Ideal if you have small children, but not great for swimmers. If you plan to visit the Dorset coastline of Christchurch and Bournemouth from the hotel it can be frustrating driving through Lyndhurst as the traffic bottlenecks there, it took us 30 minutes to travel 2 miles. This gets a bit too much every time you go out for the day and return, an hour sitting in a traffic jam 2 miles from your hotel isn’t great. The wifi is virtually non existent, extremely, extremely frustrating to use. It would be better if the hotel didn’t state that it had wifi for the few minutes I was actually able to use it for during my stay. I ended up hot spotting off my mobile phone to catch up on emails. Our room with bunk beds and a double bed was comfortable, and had plenty of space for the four of us. We found the hotel to be quite (in between the trains) and relaxing. A useful tip is to check, and double check your bill before paying it. I was overcharged by £60, and when I challenged the cost they confirmed that not all of my allowances within my package deal had been taken off the final bill. I’m sure the general manager will reply with a defensive approach as they always tend to do when receiving some negative feedback, in order to robotically fly the corporate flag. I just hope the areas which need improving are focussed on.
