Stayed for 2 nights with my wife. Our fifth visit starting six years ago. Great hotel with super staff. Restaurant (Beresfords) is great and service was highly attentive and excellent. Local walks are worth the effort as is Beaulieu Motor Museum. Free wi-fi. Pool and hot-tub were both free of other guests which was nice. Will be back at some stage.
An excellent venue for this prestigious event which was well organised with a very good buffet, comfortable seating and an inspiring guest speaker. Located just outside Brockenhurst with plenty of car parking
For a big hotel it has a small feel. Attentive staff, delicious food with good portions. Very doggy friendly and situated right in the heart of the forest. Nice leisure facilities, would be more room in Summer with outdoor pool and the seating there too. Had a very nice comfortable stay thank you.
Stayed over for a birthday party. We got upgraded which was great and the room we had was fine inside but it right next to the fans which came on at 6am. We don’t get to go out to much as we have 2 young children and was really looking forward to a relaxing peaceful rest in the morning. Not one to moan but when you are spending that amount of money on a night away you expect not to be woken at 6am. Apart from the room issue the rest of the stay was great.
My wife and I visited for the night to attend a charity ball in the hotel. The location in the New Forest persuaded us to bring our dog so that we could go walking on the following day. This is a very smart hotel but, unlike many similar places, it is incredibly welcoming. We were doubtful about taking the dog despite the website saying that the Balmer Lawn is ‘dog friendly’. We were reassured immediately on arrival - every member of staff that we met was genuinely and personally dog friendly. Thoroughly recommended (even if you don’t have a dog!)
Booked family room over the phone so had no idea what room number we had until arrival. Having spent £200 we were shocked to be allocated a room which was extremely out of date, smelly, unbearably hot & overlooking a wall. We complained & were told we should have used room checker which we would have done had we booked via the internet !!!!! We were repeatedly told ‘this is the New Forest rates are higher’, which I agree with but reduce the rate for those rooms that are extremely tired. Fortunately after numerous phone conversations we were upgraded to what is classed as a superior room, nothing particularly special but 100% improvement. We would have awarded another star had it not been for staff making drinks prices up at the wedding we attended. We were charged 3 different prices for a round of drinks until we queried it. The barmaid confirmed we had been overcharged & gave us a free round but it didn’t stop it happening to our friends throughout the evening. Either the foreign staff don’t know the prices or they are taking advantage of those who have drunk too much. Breakfast was a non event, cooked food was barely warm. Whilst we appreciate the owners are upgrading the rooms & this takes time & money, the out dated rooms should be offered at a greatly reduced rate not the same rate as refurbished rooms. Despite its prime location this hotel was a disappointment we would neither recommend or return.
This was a birthday treat from my friend for afternoon tea. The tea we had was good with plenty of sandwiches with a selection of fillings. The scones and cakes were very fresh and have to say very filling that we did leave some. The staff were very attentive and made sure that are coffees were replenished. This was our first visit i would like to have said that we would return but due to the amount of dogs that were allowed where food was being served especially as it was a carpeted area.(One was even sat on a persons lap at the table) I did not find this acceptable.Yes it is a dog friendly hotel which i have no problem with but there should be a seperate area that should be without carpet for hygeine reasons. The other problem we had and i know its a spa hotel. There where guest sat whilst we were having tea in there dressing gowns they are not at home where anything goes. There should be an area near the spa where their guest can sit in their dressing gowns and have something to eat and drink.
Everything went like clockwork. The staff were knowledgeable and pleasant. The evening event that we attended was well run and had sufficient staff for the numbers attending. Our room was spacious and comfortable and had we been staying longer had plenty of drawer and storage space, so often lacking these days.
I am sad to report an under par stay this month. Balmer lawn is always the top of our budget it has to be a special occasion for us to visit/ or out of season etc. As a result of its price/ reviews/ rating we expect luxury. On this occasion it was well below its usual high standards. Lift out of order for 24 hours, car park out of use for our first day, workman on site throughout our 4 days. Drilling banging etc etc. Now I understand work needs doing but we were not warned nor receive any discount or even apologies. Breakfast was hit and miss, things kept running out despite hotel being very quiet, orders came out wrong on numerous occasions and simple things like eggs were nt cooked to order. My main complaint was the cleanliness of the spa, especially the spa pool. On one occasion it was so filthy we refused to use it. I reported it but was told it was to be expected due to a busy morning. I checked again 2 hours later and it was completely unchanged). I did not want to bad mouth the hotel on here and wrote a detailed letter with my concerns. Unfortunately I was not pleased with the response, basically come and spend another £500+ with us and we will make sure your next stay is better. No incentive to do so and pretty much an acceptance that they can do better. Disappointed :-(
Didn't stay but visited as part of a cycling event based at the hotel. Got back after 60 miles feeling cold and tired and asked at reception (more in hope than expectation) if I could use the changing facilities in the spa to have a shower. The staff could not have been more helpful and accommodating and gave me a temporary pass as well as a towel! 15 minutes later I was a new man! They then provided the finest fishfinger sandwich and chips I have ever tasted. If their rooms and restaurant are on a par with the service I got you won't go far wrong!
