Please make sure you stay at this gem if you travel to New Zealand(2 hours from Aukland). We arrived after a tour of the glow worm caves, and were happily surprised to find lambs in a gated yard! The views are stunning. The owners were so friendly, and offered some suggestions about things to do, and places to eat. Breakfast was a huge feast of delicious foods. The B and B is on ten acres of land. There are hidden gardens, where the ponds, and beautiful landscaping will delight guests. We wished we had booked our room for more days, as we didn't want to leave.

We stayed here for two nights in October. The hosts are very friendly. We had a massive room with sofa and there was a separate toilet, separate shower and separate bath room along the hall. Breakfast was in the owners' kitchen. There was a variety of options. We preferred the non-cooked ones including a nice raspberry, granola and yoghurt pot. It is located not too far from the Kiwi House in Otorohanga and the Waitomo Caves - you will need to book in advance for the latter though. We would happily stay here again if we were in the area.

We were impressed from the moment we set foot on the property. From the amazing back drops and gardens to excellent amenities. Somersal and it’s owners Jenny and John were brilliant. I would highly recommend that anyone travelling near Pirongia hang their hat here. Chris and Emma

My wife and I stayed at this wonderful B & B after our visit to Waitomo Glow Caves. John and his family was very friendly and provided us with good breakfast and comfortable stay. The gardens were lovely and gave us an opportunity to sample the flowers of the region. No wonder it is a wonderful place to host a wedding. We would encourage visitors to stay here after their Waitomo Glow Cafe tour as it is very nearby.

My visit was a an overnight stay. The owners were nice people and the room was very nice, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was great with a nice variety. While I didn’t go for a walk in the grounds, they looked like a nice place to relax in and the view was awesome.

We made a last minute reservation at John and Jenny's Somersal B and B. We were met by the most charming host and were instantly made to feel at home. The grounds of this place are beyond beautiful, green, flowers and trees of every colour, and animals at every turn. The camellia lined drive is your first clue. Our room was comfortable and our bed offered a good night's sleep. Breakfast and conversation were delicious, cooked by John and just fantastic. The final surprise was when we were leaving our host surprised us by checking if a venue was open and giving us the good news. Really delightful experience and we can't wait to get back to Pirongia for another stay at Somersal.

We only stayed one night here but it was great. The hosts are very welcoming and recommended Five Stags for us to eat and it did not disappoint. They were accommodating to all of our tours and our early morning departure. The rooms were very clean and a good size. We had our own bathroom and there is a separate entrance for guest rooms.

Really sweet B&B in a very beautiful setting. The hosts John and Jenny were so lovely and did a fantastic breakfast for us! It's also in a good location being short drives to tourist attractions but not too close to any of them, and a lovely small town/village with a really nice local pub/restaurant which did great food.

My husband and I wanted to stay in a place that was just far enough from all the tourist places but close enough to the small towns that we could do short drives. I'm so thankful that we found this beautiful home in Pirongia and met John and Jenny. Only a short distance away from so many towns and places like Hamilton, Te Awamutu, the Waitomo Caves and lots of hiking trails! We stayed in the Master Queen Room. The room was large with plenty of space, the bed was comfortable and we were able to use a refrigerator for all our drinks, snacks and left over foods. The breakfast was DELICIOUS! And we had plenty of food. You get fresh fruit, yogurts, bread, juice, hot tea or coffee and that's not all, we also had a hot cooked meal that included eggs, sausage and bacon and veges from the beautiful gardens. John and Jenny are very accommodating and you could tell that they really cared and wanted to make sure that you were comfortable and enjoying your stay. We had great conversations with the both of them and they recommended great hikes to check out. Also, the gardens are just absolutely beautiful, they do a great job of taking care of them and it shows! They had a very friendly sheep that likes to be pet. I could go on and on about this place. The views are spectacular and we loved our stay so much. Thank you John and Jenny for everything!!

A perfect position with the driveway directly off the main road, but far enough back so that the road was not visible and there was no traffic noise. Lovely rooms in beautiful grounds, including paddocks with a small number of sheep and cattle. Jenny, our very friendly hostess, was there to greet us with tea and biscuits. Everything we needed was explained to us, and dinner in a local pub booked for us. As it was a pleasant afternoon, she suggested that we use their garden swimming pool, which was great. In the morning, a delicious breakfast was cooked off fresh, and John and Jenny made it into a very happy and social occasion with the other guests. Perfect position for a gentle 30 minute drive to the Waitomo Caves. Could not have been better.
