Ramada Pearl Hotel Guangzhou3.5 out of 5.0

We stayed 2 nights at Ramada Pearl. Great location and great views, good pool. It is China so a lack of English is understandable, but for an international hotel chain I am surprised how little is spoken. Tip: check your paperwork on checkout as I forgot to get a printout only to find on my return that we were overcharged. Attempts to contact Ramada have been in vain, head office telling me to email the hotel direct, supplying an email address that bounced back. Then ignoring further emails.
I booked a room at the Ramada Pearl Guangzhou because some friends got married there. The location itself is very convenient with some rooms having an excellent view of the Canton Tower and overlooking the Pearl River. The location is within walking distance (ca. 10 minutes) to the closest metro station. Our friends had taken care of everyone's booking, but upon arrival, it was clear that the staff was very disorganized. Our friends had even provided a printed Excel sheet with the names of all of their guests and check-in and check-out dates, yet the staff didn't have all of the information in their system correct. The first night we stayed, we were put in a room that still allowed smoking. We went downstairs immediately and asked if we could switch, but because of a trade show happening, all rooms were booked. We were told we could switch in the morning and in the meantime, they would have someone "take care of the smell" by cleaning it. When we went back upstairs, we saw a housekeeper leaving the room and "taking care of the smell," aka just spraying some air freshener. In the morning, we were able to switch the room, but the view was not as nice as the first one. However, I'd much rather not have a nice view rather than a smoking room, so this was fine! The room is spacious for two people and the king-sized bed was enormous and could probably fit two adults and two small children (we were only two adults). The bathroom is a bit dark and has some unflattering fluorescent lighting, but the lighting in the bedroom is better and made up for it. One other thing to note was the elevators seemed to be frequently out-of-order, with at most two not working for part of the days when we were there (we were there a total of 4 nights). However, they did manage to fix them. In sum, the staff could be a bit better organized and if you don't want a smoking room, you'd better specify it. Our friends were surprised that smoking rooms are even still allowed since they thought they were completely banned in China (they live there).
I stayed during this CHINAPLA2017 The room which is having nice view from the room can see nice Canton Tower River Cruise and in the night hours the beautiful lighting i was really like the view the other thing the Indian Restaurant is very near opposite to the hotel only 5-6 min walking distance Little INDIA just walk thru underpass and also the free shuttle service available from the hotel for canton Fair Ground
Here's the deal. I stayed here for business for 5 nights and from the first night the bed was an issue. Why in Guangzhou are the beds like slabs of concrete? You are a western hotel catering to western people and we like moderate beds, not beds that cause back issues. Every time I laid down on the bed, it would take me about 30 minutes to get out of the bed because the of the hard mattress. We booked a NON smoking room and there were ashtrays everywhere, surely it cannot be that hard to follow simple instructions. The saving grace was the view from the hotel, quite a nice view for the first 4 days, after that too much haze.
Stayed at the ramada pearl for 5 nights when visiting Guangzhou on holiday Was really pleasantly surprised with how lovely our room was we had an excellent view of the canton tower which made our holiday Room was clean pleasant bit disappointed couldn't use pool without swim cap and lack of bar later in the evening
The room in general is good and clean, when you are at the lobby there is unpleasant smell yet familiar one :-) then I realized it is the same smell that you find at almost all wooden Chinese furniture showrooms, it is hard to to find someone at the reception to communicate with easily, the spa staff in general are not customer friendly and the way they are pushing for tips is not appropriate. The breakfast has not enough variety to be consider international breakfast, so basically it is a nightmare for those who do not like Asian food.
If you don't mind an older hotel (bathrooms are outdated) but would like a nice view of the Canton Tower, then this hotel may be fine for you.
Hotel is ok but a bit tired. Lovely view and convenient for canton fair. Breakfast buffet is poor and so many staff milling around its hard to relax. Only found one staff who could speak English and considering the amount of foreigns staying here for the show its a big oversight. I wouldnt mind staying again but will check my options for next time
The hotel is in a very convenient and trendy location, entrance, lobby and public areas are spacious and well maintained. My room was large, well designed and clean including all the essentials. The room was facing the Pearl River and a gorgeous full view to the Guangzhou Tower. The breakfast had enough selection of Chinese and Western food options, regretfully the service is very poor. The staff members are not smiling, not greeting, not attentive and not helpful at all. They are just grouped around the TV or the welcoming desk, leaning and chatting. No one speaks English even the basic words like; menu, drink or spoon. Surprisingly the Rooms Service order taker could speak English and took my order correctly. The burger was of a poor quality, no cheese on the beef and served with over grilled almost burned sandwich. The staff at the concierge are not attentive, don't offer any help or not communicate with guests. Although I stayed on higher floors the very loud noise and live singing possibly from the club by the pool side was very disturbing and impossible to sleep unless it was over around 11pm.
Staff put me in to a smoking room when my booking (and I made it clear at check-in) that I was a nonsmoker. They moved me to a smoke free floor. Shower curtain was yellow with scale and black human hair. Couldn't get into my room the next day and i found out that they had only checked me in for the one night. I had to prove that my booking was for two nights before they would let me back into my room. Didnt help that I was soaked through from an unexpected rain storm but they had to wait untill I pulled up by booking on my laptop before they would let me back into my room. Some noise from traffic and ajoining rooms. Hotel is tired in everyway and needs complete refurbishment. Staff training is obviously very poor, I wont be going back. The only positive is the hotels location. I'd rather spend the extra time traveling to my office from another hotel when I am in town then have a repeat of this stay.
