Mandarin Hotel Guangzhou4.0 out of 5.0

Highly disappointed as this hotel has 4 stars! Immediately the moment we entered the room it smelled like a wet dog. The carpet was still wet along with stains and a false eyelash ground into the carpet. The bed is very hard with no padding. The restaurant had no western food and the toaster didn’t even work. My husband got ill from an omelet that they made. We moved over to the Ramada Pearl which was amazing!
Deeply disappointing, the Mandarin Hotel does not rise to the status it pretends to have. This is at best a 3-star hotel. While the front desk does it best to please and possess good foreign language skills, the service lacks in every aspect. The rooms are rather old although clean and comfortable; the television reception is horrendous; the WiFi is extremely weak (at points I just gave up completely). The breakfast buffet is nothing to write home about with waiter service lacking in every detail. This is a mostly business-oriented hotel, but frankly there are too many choices nearby to make this a preferred destination. Verdict: not recommended.
What I hated most when I stay in the hotel, is the hotel has smoking odor every where. This hotel was rated 4 star in Travelocity, but it is way over rated. Hotel guests smoke at lobby, rooms, elevators, mildew in the bathroom. Front desk service representatives some is friendly, one has no smile at all time. this hotel locate too far from the metro, not whining walking distance. The breakfast was good
OK, the wife booked this for a quick overnight trip to the US Embassy. The front desk people cannot speak English (very limited); the room was definitely for smokers; nothing close around the hotel; and, bed is waaaaay to hard. Did I mention that the room smells moldy?
Room:- The rooms are clean and spacious, but the beds are hard. There is a military ground right next to the hotel so you will get a natural alarm at 6 am(Maybe, i am a deep sleeper i slept right back after waking up) so saves the tension of keeping an alarm. Reception:- Only one person in the reception speaks in english, who is pretty helpful, but they dont have much idea apart from the hotel, as all the names in english have a different name in chinese. Google doesnt work in china which is a bigger problem as you cant even show the destination you want to go to. It would take us time to explain things but would generally get the work done. Breakfast:- Breakfast buffet doesnt have much variety, but the do the clear soups, noodle soup, some sausages and bacon, jucies, cereals, and breads, which in my opinion was nice. To get anywhere:- You have to take a taxi as the metro station is far. Also when we were there it was raining. Locality:- Nothing to do there in the night, there are a few local places in the morning, but i dint dare to go there, people are fishing right next to the hotel so thats a fun sight. PS:- there is no grocery store around there, and if you are thirsty late in the night and have run out of water, you will have to sleep thirsty, because the hotel wont do anything and say the kitchen is closed.
It is more of a business hotel. The rooms are spacious and clean, but there is a military training ground nearby so you often get disturbed by their noise. The buffet breakfast has a lot of variety but for vegetarians the choice is very limited. The restaurant staff don't understand English and use a app to translate. It really get frustrating at times to explain them despite the app. There is no good place around also where you get vegetarian food. On the front desk also only one person understands English and others only Chinese, so communication becomes a problem. The food is average. The have a spa and karaoke bar in the hotel, not used the same so cannot comment about it. Its also far from the central district and other places. So if you get a place closer to city center it better but if you are going to work in this area then this hotel is ok to stay.
I visited Guangzhou for my business trip and stayed at Mandarin Oriental. It's location was best part for me as it was just next to my office. People at front desk were really well behaved and ready to help. Rooms are very big and I would give 5 starts for all the amenities. Breakfast has wide range of selection and inspite of being pure vegetarian I was able to get number of things for me in breakfast. Overall stay was good and I highly recommend this hotel to other travellers.
I had a lot of expectations. The hotel was ok but a bit dated in terms of facilities. The room itself was spacious and staff were polite. The windows didn't close properly and we were woken up every morning by the exercising military college students! The breakfast was average for an Asian 4 star hotel. There's room for improvement!
Please, avoid this hotel if you are not chinese. The hotel staff dont speak english (in the reception, in the the restaurant,...). Thy use an App on their phones to translate. And nearby you dont find any place decent to have a meal. Its from the everything (the center, the fair, the good restaurants, shopping malls). The rooms are big but old fashion.
Service is fair. They cannot help customer to book a taxi. And they cannot arrange room after 2pm. Room is clean, but bed is hard. Location near train station, 20mins walking, 5 mins by taxi, price RMB 15 around. Breakfast need improvements, give more fruit & vegetables, more biscuits and more fresh fruit drink........
