Location cannot be beat BUT hotel has plumbing issues. Front desk is very nice and room was kept clean. If you ask for a room with a balcony be prepared for some drunks sernading most of the night. All in all I would stay in a room with a balcony again. Love the historical features.

This is a great hotel to stay at. You can't beat the location. Rooms are nice and staff is friendly and helpful. This is the 2nd time I have stayed in this hotel.

The location is perfect, close to majority of historic sites in Guanajuato. The hotel facilities are not outdated, rather historic, and traditional from Colonial times. Frontdesk staff has to be more welcoming and friendly with visitors. Housekeeping staff was great though. Had breakfast one day, which was just OK. There are better places elsewhere in town.

Frankly with this visit in Guanajuato my husband and I decided return next time and avoid our visit Spain

Good location and kind staffs. But aircoditiong is not available. The fan is only possible.

The hotel is right in the heart of the city making it an easy walk to dozens of restaurants, bars, museums, theaters and shops. The staff was friendly and very helpful. Rooms are small, but neat and more than adequate. Staying here makes you feel like you've really had a Mexican vacation!

I'll break it down into pros & cons. Pros: Location right on the Jardin de la Union; easy access to the entire city; very eager and helpful staff. Cons: Building is archaic and in need of a desperate overhaul: my first night there I had to have my toilet (yes, I said my toilet) replaced in the room because the one there didn't work; there is no hot water - if you leave it running 15-20 minutes it will get tepid/warm, but I could not shave for five days; no privacy - because these rooms are old there is no AC and windows and patio doors must be left open to create a cross breeze, but patios are communal and stranger have access to your room at all times; beds - where do I start? they are made up of smaller beds pushed together and it is impossible to get comfortable sleeping on the seams between mattresses, the pillows are lat pieces of cushioning covered in white cloth and are useless. BIG CON: The price! For Mexico, this is not even a cheap hotel but runs about $100.00 US dollars a night!

Unique hotel with a bit of cave feeling. Interior of the hotel was worth checking.

We had a wonderful vacations. My wife and I stayed for a week here. The location is excellent, you are in the middle of the downtown and all the attractions are in a walking distance. My only complain was that the business next door is a bar and in some of the rooms it gets a little bit noisy but the staff was so kind to give us and other room. I highly recommend this place.

Hotel was great rooms were good location couldn't be better only complaint is the beds were the most uncomfortable ever like sleeping on a rock

This hotel is one of the best hotel I have been in. A beautiful old hotel in a very good location to see Guanajuato.

GREAT LOCATION, IF YOU WANT TO EXPERIENCE THE REAL LIFE OF A VERY BEAUTIFUL COLONIAL CITY, THIS IS THE PLACE TO STAY. JUST BE AWARE, THERE IS NOT AC... WE STAYED 3 NIGHTS LAST WEEK AND THE ROOMS WERE H O T !

Hotel was in the perfect central plaza location where tourists and locals alike spend many hours per day socializing and making connections and enjoying the music by Mariachis and other vendors with all their wares to sell touristas. Hotel was beautiful in the entry and for the age having been built in 1862, it was well maintained, although you need to be ready for the hike upstairs to your room with no elevators, and the beds were rock hard, and the air flow during the stay was at a minimum because there are just fans and no air conditioning. Room service was very good as our room was well maintained while bath toiletries were always kept up. With limited access by car, parking is almost impossible while your driver was driving around the blocks of narrow streets, you had little time to say a long good-by to new friends and find the right pesos to give out for good service. I would go back and remember this is Mexico, not to expect what you do in the USA. They do not know what a foam topper is to soften a hard mattress at all. The bell boys know the right tour contacts to arrange whatever tours you are interested in. Ask for [...], an elder 60's gentleman who was born in Guanajuato and is highly knowledgeable and goes beyond the average city tours with details of his wonderful city and all that it offers, including the very interesting colorful history from the beginning to the present. I will return to this city in Mexico as I have made new friends who want me to return as I do myself. The food and choices of restaurants were also quite vast. The museums and the culture is everywhere while there seems to be a kind of refinement in this college city that has a drawing to its charm. Unlike the ghost towns where gold had been discovered in California during the 1849 era, today, most are almost abandoned while Guanajuato holds the distinction of growing and expanding its population from starting as a grain processing town until gold and silver were discovered, haciendas and land barons ruled with slavery flourishing and cruel treatment of the Africans who were brought into the region and the peon (poor Mexicans)until they revolted. Beneto Juarez had come up through the ranks of the common people and was very beloved while the Spanish wanted to conquer and plunder during the years that political leaders emerged with their own ideas of what was best for the area. Today, Guanajuato looks much the same as it did 600 years ago with expanding population and prosperity for those with ambition. These people who are native all love their city and its rich history.

The location of this hotel could not have been better. We were at the edge of the main plaza, and witnessed all the fun fiesta that occurs in Guanajuato each time we exited our hotel. The location of this hotel could not have been worse. Our charming (looking) room was on the street side of the hotel, with all the noise that Guanajuato has to offer. Raucous street noise until 2 or 3 am, then staff voices as they arrive and start their duties in the lobby at 7 am--we did not get a good night's sleep in the 3 nights we spent there. Many other rooms in this hotel may not have the same noise problem. The quieter rooms, however, may not have a window, and certainly not a view. Front desk staff was wonderful, helpful, with great English language skills. Dining room service was slow and not so friendly. Eat somewhere else for better restaurant value, too. I wish we had only spent one night here, but bill was pre-paid for 3 nights. I'll get a good night's sleep when we get back home!

Fantastic location...in the heart of Historical Centro. Everything within a stone's throw. Friendly, helpful staff and very service oriented. A bid dated decor, but that's part of its charm. Rooms facing the street can be noisy at night.

Very unique and very pleasent Hotel. Great location right on the Plaza Jardin where all the action is. The hotel is with in walking distance of 80% the things to see in Guanajuato.

The hotel is located on Plaza de Jardin (Square of Guardins) I Liked the location. It is right in the center of town where all the action is. Walking distance to all most everything. The hotel arranged a city tour that was fantastic and it was very reasonable. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL TO EVERYONE.

first room was the pits. second day's room was ok. beds, pillows, shower below par. service was below par also. but great location.

Excellent location, high priced for what they offer, not very friendly employees, good restaurant, noisy rooms, had to move after check in, great location to walk around downtown area, would probably stay somewhere else in the future. The city is beautiful and inexpensive!
