This is one of those places where you go for the experience and not for the hotel service. We stayed only for a night and sort of regretted not spending another day as we travelled halfway around the world and highly unlikely we’ll visit again. Beautiful barrels and sunrise + sunset views with agave all around. Completely mesmerising. The rooms were quite decent so not sure what the other reviewers are complaining about. Hot water was aplenty as well. That said, their service is appalling. Nobody speaks even a word of English and we don’t speak a word of Spanish, so one can imagine what would have happened there! If they want to make it an attraction for international tourists (and let me say it is totally worth it), they ought to have some English speaking staff at least. We got lucky that the distillery (which is in their premises) tour guide spoke a bit of English so we were not completely clueless on what he was explaining. We opted for the tequila tasting class as well, where the guide only spoke Spanish so it was more like go figure! The food in their restaurant is tasteless and the effort required to explain the waiters on what you actually want is just not worth it. I had to wait 20 minutes trying to explain them to get the bill! They don’t even understand that much English!! So I’d suggest going to town to get a bit, plenty of options there and the mood in the square is so lively at night, it’s magical. The hotel offers free drop offs and pick ups from the main square (which was another communication challenge!) but this facility is helpful as it’s hard to spot a taxi in town.
Traveled with my husband and 3 children. When we first booked in March they did NOT inform us that a room that has two beds is only for three people. Upon arrival they wanted to charge extra adult charge for my 15 year old and for my 5 year old, which they eventually charged an extra amount. Customer service is not good, they also wanted to charge extra for a Snickers bar that we never had and they also charged extra for dirtying a small towel. The printed paper with reception number that they gave us did not work so we had to go to the front desk to request an iron, etc. Staff needs training on better customer service and owner needs to do something about these things that make no sense, we travel to many resorts and this place has a lot to learn. No Wi-Fi and cell reception is poor. Buyer beware, this hotel is not family friendly and the cost is extremely high $275 USD (one night) for the amenities provided and bad customer service. It is a beautiful picturesque location with a great underground restaurant but you may be better off staying elsewhere. The only friendly staff was the bus driver and tour guide.
Very bad service. Rooms are as a 2 star hotel. Very expensive on what they offer. Air conditioning in the rooms do not work properly. What for that. I do not recommend at all this hotel. Bathrooms not nice.
The location is good, it’s close to the downtown so you will not have any problem if you want to visit it, also the access by car is easy, some locations has small streets and drive to there is difficult but for this hotel that is not the case. Since there are a limited quantity of rooms I recommend to book in advance, specially on holidays. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable with double bed and air conditioning, in my opinion the bathroom could be better, look very standard. By the way the rooms are not wood containers, they are made of cement so you will not stay in a real barrel. The landscapes are very beautiful. I recommend to ask for the best view before book your room.
Staff was both disorganized and rude. They could not find the pickup location in what is a VERY small town and the manager was not on site (on a weekend!). Turns out they have a separate group that manages transportation within the same hotel so any time you call the front desk, they just pass it on to another "group" (staff totals many 15 people!). In other words, right hand doesn't talk to the left hand The location is way out of town and depressing It's hot, does not have a pool or any diversion other than a tequila cellar and restaurant. The whole town is about tequila so this is not unique. For what the hotel presents, it is not worth the money or the rating by any stretch. Awful place. Definitely stay away!
Your stay comes with a tour and tasting. Our tour guide Pepe was amazing!! It was the middle of the week so the tour was basically a private tour for my boyfriend and I, it was great! Pepe had us laughing the whole time. Also, you get a complimentary clay barrel to store tequila in (tequila not included) once you check out. I definitely recommend staying here on your first visit to Tequila!
I got very disappointed with the hotel. One of the rooms didn’t had any batteries for the control. Room service finished very early. They didn’t accommodate a tequila tasting or tour that should be included with the fee and is far from the town. For that money you can get something better downtown. Don’t reserve.
Coming from Cancun is hard to find a differential among hotels. this hotel just did, incredible rooms made like tequila barrels, with all the amenities and luxury you may need in a small city like Tequila.
I'll admit I was skeptical of this concept, but the rooms are extremely comfortable and well done. Be aware that La Cofradía (the property on which the barrel rooms are located) is at the edge of town.
We booked 3 barrels last July to celebrate our daughter's birthday on 22nd December. She and her husband and two children had traveled from UK and my husband, son and I from Australia. Until we checked in, we were not aware that the WHOLE of the other accommodation had been booked for an on-site wedding. If we had been told we would have gone elsewhere without the high price tag and the wedding party would have been pleased to have our accommodation. As it was, we were forgotten for the free tasting, made to walk the darken perimeters rather than be seen by the wedding party and have to suffer loud and intrusive music until almost 3 in the morning. The check in and check out were chaotic and we felt like second class citizens throughout. So sad as the barrels and views are wonderful, the restaurant good and the tequila tour very informative.
